  1. I always get crazy looks when I mention Tina Fey.
  2. How many time do the Twins play the Sox? That's how many games Thome will play this year.
  3. Go Cubs Go is something that got projectile vomited out of a Jimmy Buffet reject tape. If this were the Sox, I'd be leaving games early to avoid this assault on the ears anytime it looked like a lead going into the bottom of the 8th was safe.
  4. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jan 19, 2010 -> 08:52 PM) I suppose the one fearsome part about his lowered value would be it can open up the possibility of him agreeing to be a PH for $1M to an upper echelon contender. I would think he cares more about a potential ring than the HR totals. With a legitimate DH, the Sox can be just that contender. Thome can be that DH, along with what I assume would be more AB's than he would get as a PH for anyone else. I read somewhere that Paulie, Thome, and Beckham were doing a signing around these parts sometime soon. I'd like to think that Thome enjoyed his time here, and should an inoffensive offer be floated his way, he would take it. I have absolutley nothing to base this off either, but I think the Sox would do better, even if not by much, than 1M. Ozzie wants a rotating DH? Jones, Kotsay, and Thome more than qualify, and with the addition of Thome, we can count on more than a few leaving the yard than we could without him. I agree, some other guys might take more money for less work with the chance for a ring, but I don't think Thome is that guy.
  5. I'm so f***ing happy that there is finally one of "those guys" on the White Sox. This guy, when he pitched for the meaningless Padres was still Sportscenter s***.
  6. Kramer trying to get Joe DiMaggio's attention at the diner (DiMaggio's a dunker) -pounding on table and making that ridiculous high pitched YIP! and quickly looking away.
  7. I vacationed in Florida over Christmas-New Years Eve, and my phone, complete with a web browser bookmarked ESPN and MLB.com broke down about 2 weeks ago. I haven't gotten much time to check in with Sox news since then, but a few days ago I had a gut feeling that Pods signed with either the Tigers or Royals. Today I log on and lo and behold. For that money, and after that season, the price was right for Podsednik. The Sox need a DH, and it pains me to know that they're going to dumpster dive to get one. I wish they had made that (DH) spot a priority and *then* weighed their options for the leadoff spot. This offense, until it proves otherwise, is smelly s*** on the bottom of my shoe. When you field a pitching staff as good as the Sox seemingly have, and as risky as it is to bank it all on that staff, (injury, slumps, insert whatever factor you can imagine cause its all legit) and take away a year off their contracts should it not work out, why not fill a friggin DH spot in a bandbox of a ballpark instead of assuming the current trio of lol, wtf, and Jones will produce? I am a fan of the Jones signing. Probably, he won't produce as he has in his prime, but Uribe-esque numbers are certainly not out of his reach. That said, Uribe was a SS/3B/2B. We had a pair of guys whose last names began in TH (and a crazy EV) during Profundo's tenure. Lose a Dye, and who is going to hit HR's? It could be Beckham, Rios, Konerko, Ramirez, and even Teahen or AJ, but I think the liklihood of the afore-mentioned jacking the pearl on a consistent basis is just as likely as not. At this point, bring back one of our past "TH" sluggers, bring back Dye, or, *fills out mega millions card* get Dunn! Don't put a bat in Andruw's hands, kiss him on the forehead, and expect to see anything but the end of September. I hope the "splash" the White Sox make this season isn't banking on The Twins sucking on grass, The Tigers losing Granderson, The Royals being the Royals, or The Indians just sucking in general.
  8. On a related note, is MLB mandating the use of those ridiculous safety helmets for the '10 season? I thought I read that. I hope I misread that.
  9. QUOTE (quickman @ Dec 13, 2009 -> 09:12 AM) I expect Josh Fields to lose his baseball life within two years as well. It makes me sad to recognize that I'm upset about Chris Getz going to KC for Teahen and damn near forgot that Fields went in the same deal. After the no-hitter and Jimbo's 500th, this guy was probably the only legit reason anyone could reasonably justify watching White Sox baseball in 2007. Shame.
  10. I saw this Nets loss coming ever since ESPN started tracking NJ's winless streak. All I did was look at when they played the Bulls. I was only one NJ win off... 32 points is just "take a step back-esque", so I picked that one.
  11. Couldn't find a WS Catch-all, but some 1985 style Hawk going on at MLB network. Sox@Yanks. Seaver's 300th.
  12. He sure is. I have the link to his statement in catch all. http://www.espnmediazone3.com/us/2009/12/g...-run-with-espn/
  13. Gammons done at ESPN http://www.espnmediazone3.com/us/2009/12/g...-run-with-espn/
  14. As someone who hasn't exactly been enthralled with Jenks probably since a blown save in Baltimore 2 years back, I'd keep him. The starting 5 we have has great upside, although I'm only totally sold on Buehrle, Peavy and perhaps Danks. Any team's pen is going to fluctuate year to year, and our's isn't solidified, nor can we expect anyone to repeat or exceed their previous year's contribution. I'll believe the Sox know how to hit a baseball when I see it, so the cards are in our pitcher's hands. Jenks has done it in the past and I'd like to think he can do it again as per the afore-noted fluctuation situation. Fill the pen vacancies wisely, don't fix something that ain't broke (Thornton as setup- yes he did well as a closer, but it wasn't exactly a legitimate sample size IIRC)- messing with that aspect of the pen is just as touchy as messing with the closer I think. And pray to the sweet baby Jesus that our hitters won't put the pen in as many "what the f***, our starter gave up 5 hits and 2 runs and we're down by two in the 7th" situations as in the past.
  15. Playing a bit deeper on the mentor card- it struck me that Alexei was one of those who Kenny was unhappy with at the end of this season. I could see this as a "straighten out your s***" move directed at Alexei. He now has a resource in Vizquel, and will hopefully take advantage of that to improve his defensive game.
  16. I used to hold tix in 522 row 1. It was 2007 when nothing was going right on the field, and someone at least a dozen rows up showed his displeasure by chucking a bottle of beer which ended up hitting a little girl a few rows behind me. The guy actually tried to resist security when they came for him. Assclown.
  17. /\ Yeah, but you can still have fun with it, as I assume he does...
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 01:04 PM) I would love to try to get Kila Ka'aihue, if he can be had. We have zero depth for 1B behind Paulie right now (in the minors I mean), unles Viciedo is a 1B. And having a lefty power bat would be helpful. His AVG dropped last year in AAA, but his other numbers are all pretty good, and I see a lot of potential there. I want him here solely for the pleasure of listening to Hawk take a crack at pronouncing his name.
  19. I remember being at a Sox game against the Yanks that Dye had a base hit walkoff. On the way home when I was listening to the postgame show, I think Farmer termed Damon's throw to home as a "five hopper".
  20. Phillies are my primary non-White Sox rooting interest.
  21. His curve is what hurt him his last start. He hung a few supposedly to different batters. (that's the pitch C.J. rocked off him.. hanging curve) I don't know who rocked him on what, but I recall reading a quote from Stephen himself that he "has a plus fastball" and hitters know its coming. That was his explanation for what took place.
  22. I was actually a fan of Bradley the ballplayer from his days on the west coast and even up to Texas. I thought his reputation as a troublemaker was more word of mouth than anything. I think if the media and fans in chicago had never heard of him before this year things may have been better. Sadly for Milton, MLB is popular and your reputation follows you, even if you play in Alaska. I can *maybe* see Bradley working out on the other side of town, but more importantly I could also imagine him being interviewed and written about by the same reporters in the same papers as this past year. Dude will either make good with his Cubs people, or never play for a team in Chicago again.
  23. Count pitching. Just gave up the lead. Phillies have always been my plan B after the Sox but there is no way I could ever root against this elderly man. I see he gave up his #52...
