  1. Ever since we got Thome I've dreamt of a DH platoon consisting of the two. I mean, hell, if we have room for clowns like Wasserman or Nix then why the hell not make our DH spot one that opposing pitchers don't want to f*** with. It would certainly count more than a mop or someone who Jenks would probably surpass on the infield depth charts...
  2. QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 01:08 AM) I just read that KW and the Mariners are in talks of trading Carlos Quentin to the Mariners in a "MONSTER DEAL" that would send li Jarrod Washburn....Carlos Silva maybe, Morrow... here this is what it says http://bleacherreport.com/articles/117754-...de-could-happen Carlos Quentin Aaron Poreda Clayton Richard or Brandon Allen To Seattle for Brandon Morrow Wladamir Balentein Jarrod Washburn lol ...and you're a cantaloupe.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 2, 2009 -> 07:06 PM) We won the division last year with Griffey, Wise, and Swisher being some of our main starting CF's. Frankly, even Owens will be an upgrade defensively. Defensively, yeah, perhaps. Each of those guys have hit a ball past the dirt of the infield though and the trouble is that Owens is bound by MLB rules to use a bat 4-5 times a game. Griffey is often shat on, all he did was hit doubles and have a badass music intro... Swisher and his Mendoza Line average- he still hit more HR's than Owens will in his career, and Wise, well, I like what he did for us last year. I'll happily eat my words without any salt if he goes on to become Podsednik 2.0. If the dinos in the middle of the lineup don't each have 4 month slumps again, then it can be had, if not, it will be interesting to see what Williams and Guillen (I love em both) will have to say about the decision to not pursue on the market, or to think Owens was a better candidate than Anderson (or hell, even Pierzynski or Jenks) in CF.
  4. Listened to the game on a clock radio at work. Had...Pizza Hut... Lucky for me I got to watch the last (remarkable) 3 minutes at a TGI Fridays on the way home, and had some scrumptrilescent Giordano's for dinner today. Stay away from Pizza Hut pizza. When you're hungry it might taste good, but in the long run you're better off collecting pine cones and grass to make a salad. Reading the posts in this thread makes me hate each and every one of you.
  5. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 29, 2009 -> 08:02 PM) Good luck Juan, I wish the Sox could have brought you back at this price. 37 cents off for Chris Getz and Jayson Nix instead is nothing to sneeze at. Getz and Nix, combined! I can't friggin wait... Next Sox game I go to my eyes will never leave second base regardless of where the ball is or what is happening in the game because thats where the magic will be.
  6. I'll miss him. One of my favorite Sox players...
  7. In Swisher's case I think it has less to do with Ozzie not being able to manage him as KW working some vision out. OC, yeah, possibly. I liked both of these guys on the team, but as much as I may have liked Swish the ballplayer before he came here, if it was Ozzie that took part in sending him out of here (and I don't think so), then I'm more comfortable with it than with KW just cutting him loose to stock the farm. World Series or not, I love Ozzie. I'm 22, and there hasn't been half a Sox manager in my time as a Sox fan than Ozzie is. Sciosia, Torre, Gardenhire, Piniella, Wedge, Martin, LaRussa, Francona, Maddon, Leyland, not the one of them would make me happier despite their accolades or credentials (maybe Martin would come close). This guy, to me is the face of our team, hopefully for years to come. 70 or 100 win season, I'm content with the manager.
  8. My two favorites from this list are Mauer and Sizemore, with Mauer waltzing away with it.
  9. Didn't you know? A down year BA-wise despite hitting 24 HR's clearly means horse steroids and regular consumption of bull testicles. It's been proven that since the inception of MLB a player suffering from decreased production is more juiced than a glass of fresh squeezed Florida oranges with pulp. *will bitterly miss Swisher and his mediocrity in the outfield in 2009 when NEED FOR SPEED, with his graceful gazelle-like strides takes the incorrect route to a ball*
  10. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 04:26 PM) And to answer the other question, the polish was Best's as well. Noooo! Is Owens going to hit leadoff too?
  11. Eh, I had Nathan's at Coney Island and it's good, but nowhere near as good as one would think based on the recognizability of the brand. This is sad news. The salty stool served at Cubs games better not show up at the Cell... Not pretending to know much about the hot dog/sausage industry, but this won't be affecting my polish w/ grilled onions, will it?
  12. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 12:31 AM) Apparently losing Vazquez, O-cab and Swisher = 20 game swing. I don't buy it. We're a mid-80's team that can swing 8 games either way. Colon's health pending, as it stands now the back end of the rotation is Colon, Richard, or Marquez. Maybe not 20 games, but unless these guys light up the world, and assuming Floyd didn't have a fluke year, I hope our offense relentlessly pours runs in. Cabrera was a big part of the 2008 team. Swisher struggled, but still hit the ball out the park and drew some walks. Vazquez, as frustrating as he may have been, is a better #4 than either of the three afore-mentioned. Dropping that and supplementing it with Betemit, Getz, Richard, Marquez etc. won't help-on paper. Not saying they won't. after all, Floyd did. I thought Ramirez would, but not as soon as he did. Now I'm just worried about their ability to achieve stability in that production. I wish we would have held on to Masset. I can't be the only one to remember how he stiffled the Cubs mighty lineup. We also lose Crede, who is a lamb, but nevertheless tore that s*** up early on in the season, and Uribe, who was a contributor, and a pretty big f***ing "Get out of Jail" spot. Now we have two, possibly three starters, two more unproven, and a guy who helped us win it but won't be able to until July. The infield, while Fields has been at third before, now features three positions filled by different guys than last year. Who the f*** plays CF? The Chevy truck that rolls out in between innings? I hope so cause since Anderson won't, thats probably the ideal alternative. Owens? How about just not fielding a man at all? For fear of being struck down by lightening I won't take the time to question whether CQ can strive to imitate Frank. It was great to witness, but can it happen again...?
  13. TV shows like Lost and the such. Gameshows, reality tv of just about any sort. Junk like The Hills comes to mind.
  14. QUOTE (Karko's Throat Skin @ Jan 19, 2009 -> 03:04 PM) With all the chicken littles around here...can someone tell me how we have gotten worse? We lost Swisher, Vazquez, Crede, Uribe, Griffey....I have no doubt that Owens/Anderson, Fields, Getz, and Colon/Marquez can match or damn near match what those players offered to this team last year. I also expect Konerko to come back very strong, as is his MO. While I don't think this is a 90 win team, I do believe it is a 84-86 win team and a competitor in the division. Yousa sellin this here division short. Down years happen, 2008 was just that. 84 wins and competing? What is this, NL West? IMO Swisher would have been a valuable part of this team going into the future. Dislike him as I may, Javy was the 4/5 starter that any club wants, you just sit his ass when there is a game of worth to be played. These guys have been replaced by Yankee scrap, and some Braves prospects that are promising- but not in 2009 they aren't, oh and Colon. Betemit v. Uribe- f***, f***. I hate that Swisher trade so much. If the Sox were so desperate to lose him, I'd rather straight up cut the guy and pay his s*** than have those clowns we recieved for him sit here and taunt me from the roster. I never liked Betemit then, and I like him even less now that he was part of a deal that took Nicholas outta here and essentially replaced Juan Uribe. I wish him no good, I hope he hits .000 in spring training and is banished from the game, or to the Winston Salem Phallus. Crede, made no impact on the team aside from a strong first 4 weeks, and while Griffey hit a hell of a lot of doubles and I wished him back, his production could probably be replaced for less money. The question mark of a signing Dayen, and the promising crop harvested from Atlanta are great, but we may as well have traded Swisher for an upper deck seat for me in new Yankee Stadium. Or at least free parking... Guys drafted by the Yanks are about as interesting to me as a Chicago Tribune I read 3 days ago. I hope I'm wrong, and I don't pretend to sit here and study every aspect of team X's farm clubs, but if there was anything of worth in a NY minor league affilate, would they be tossing green all over the place? Why Betemit? Why not just nothing, or a cup of dirt from old Yankee stadium?
  15. Ok, ok. But everything aside what is Hampton good for after football? What is Holmes good for at all?
  16. You don't dump Murph, you move Lawrence and Holmes after B&B, or can that act alltogether. How Goff or Abbatacola didn't get that slot in the first place is beyond me. Adding him to M&H in the mornings might sound good too. MJH was the one last thing that had me checking AM1000 out, and now I have no need to tune in, ever. Not one program on the station interests me anymore, save for the once a week Chet/Bruce baseball show. Mike&Mike 6-12, Tirico/Van Pelt (probably the best of their offerings) 12-2, a headless chicken 2-6... Even God Boy weeknights/early morning is more inciteful/easy to listen to than the most annoying voice ever/lol that he has his own sports talk show Jayson Smith. That s***show is all kinds of horrid. I'd say add him to B&B but if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Score needs to pounce on this though... And add Jim Rome too!
  17. QUOTE (Sec101Row1 @ Jan 16, 2009 -> 10:51 PM) Ya know, he might not be a bad option out of the bullpen. Or as a fourth starter.
  18. I still give him time. This team used to play with heart. Find a center. Also, people calling for Del Negro's firing so early into his first coaching job are hilarious. I was sad to see Skiles go, really sad, but now that it's been done, you stick with Vinny. 1/2 season is not enough to judge a ballboy, let alone the head coach of a group of clowns.
  19. http://score670.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=28061 Excellent reads all around.
  20. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Dec 22, 2008 -> 11:17 PM) Even wider than that 'fivehead' is her mouth. I bet it's useful, but it sure doesn't look good. http://www.delawareonline.com/blogs/upload...iver-773628.jpg Haha she looks like Steven Tyler.
  21. Such sadness whenever I think about that trade...
  22. No doubt, the pitching has question marks. I wouldn't be happy if either of those rotations/pens wore my teams uniform. I didn't believe in Carmona even during the Indians ALCS season. The one thing is a lot of these guys have had success before. Tigers rotation even got them to the World Series before they forgot how to throw to first. (c'mon now, the same Cardinals that got 20-something hung on them at the Cell only to get laughed out of the venue the next day?) Just as our Danks and Floyd, (but moreso Floyd)they're liable to pitch well. Predicting pitching in the winter sucks, it's such a crapshoot. It's still the Tigers lineup that worries me-I guess I'm still in such disbelief at what happened in near Canadia last year. It's why the games are played though, and it's why I can't write the Sox off this year even if this is the roster we open with. Sidenote- Going to the NL was great for CC's wallet. Where I had doubts about Carmona, that same feeling came to me about CC. I see a lot of anticipointed Yanks fans. He's not going to be throwing shutouts like he did in Milwaukee, even shutouts past the 3rd inning.
  23. I look at is as me being able to watch baseball earlier. It beats watching Spring Training.
