  1. QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 30, 2008 -> 01:46 PM) Sad. all that talent and zero control. Point taken, but let's take a stroll into baseball's glorious past shall we...?
  2. He was great and then Jordan came along. The many psych classes I have in me make me think that this drama stems from Jordan. I was willing to reluctantly give him the benefit of the doubt about the assault case, but dude is shooting himself in the foot with this one. He's throwing his own daugher in the midst of her development under the bus for no good reason, and it looks like he's getting his own family to cover his ass- It's pathetic.
  3. Actually not too bothered by Walker coming back at the moment. Paulie figured it out, Uribe came up huge for a good chunk of the season after we lost Crede. AJ, Alexei, and Dye hit, Thome had his moments, and Swisher probably had one of those years that just about everyone has. Oh, and Carlos Quentin. I've come to learn that Walker doesn't have a whole lot to do with how we hit, it's simply our team makeup.
  4. I read in an espn article that Phillies fans booed loudly when Hamels got the MVP. I realize others where probably more qualified, but really? If I were at Game 4 of our series and Selig walked Herm Schneider up there to give him the hardware I would not have cared. At least Hamels was responsible in large for 2 wins. Imagine Sox fans booing if Buehrle won it. I cannot picture that... Either way, I'm happy my other rooting interest won. Nowhere near the bliss of 2005, but much closer than any other team(s) combined could have provided. It was a great October.
  5. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Oct 24, 2008 -> 02:59 PM) I would go with Bob Brenly as well. Ned Yost did his best Willie Randolph impersonation the last two seasons, so why bring him in? On a side note, if Brenly does take the job it will give me absolutely zero incentive to watch cub games. I really enjoy listening to him, am I alone on this as far as sox fans go? Brenly and Kermit are enjoyable. I can't see the Brewers not taking Brenly, so now I wonder who I'll be listening to in case of blowouts or off days. I hope it's not Plesac. Grace would be my choice, but even dueling Len Kaspers would be better than Dan Plesac.
  6. Ron reacting to the monitor is a spot on description of the man's work. In most any other booth it probably wouldn't work, but given the Cubs situation and having a Pat Hughs there to wipe the drool off your chin, I think he's perfect for the team and actually enjoy listening to him. I love Hawk but Ron's homerism is eleventy times more genuine, probably hand in hand with him being more senile, but like I said it works with the sad franchise that is the Cubs.
  7. I'd love to keep the infield intact (Uribe and Cabrera being the two we may not see again) but if not, honestly if we could somehow sign Manny I wouldn't even feel too bad about an infield consisting of Konerko, Alexei at SS and Manny simultaneously playing 2nd and 3rd, perhaps even pitching to himself while he catches. This isn't even based off what took place in the playoffs, this is an opinion I've held for a good time now. Additionally, the Guillen/Ramirez interaction intrigues me greatly and is worth in itself whatever it would take to attain this man.
  8. I love the Phillies- they're my next closest rooting interest to the Sox in any sport, save for maybe the Bears and Jordan Bulls. I can't see them pulling this one off, but I'll watch every pitch just to make sure. Baseball>All other sports, so why would October baseball not be more desirable than middle of the season NFL/preseason NBA/dawn of a new season NHL (combined, at that)?
  9. I thought Games 1 and 2 of the Sox/Rays series were 100% winnable. Tampa had a tougher time with us than with Boston. Go Phillies.
  10. I feel this way as well. Tonight's shootout reminded me of, and made me feel the same way as some choice Sox games. It's bad but it's good, and I look forward to something else to supplement the Bulls and Bears.
  11. I'd be shocked if it wasn't legit, and both shows are in my top 3 Chicago shows with MJH at #3.
  12. Excited about the Phils, I just wish they didn't have to play LA cause I dig on them too, just a little less.
  13. I don't mind when people are going crazy with one out in the top of the first, cause after all noise at home is good, but I think I've watched the game long enough to know when it really matters, and that is when I willleave my seat. There have been games during my tenure as a ticketholder where I've sat through the entire 3 hours without saying a word, and only left my seat for a polish w/ grilled onions, and vice versa.
  14. I've seen in the past those who claim that the Cubs series is nothing compared to one of the eleventy division series we play yearly. Somehow you're less of a Sox fan if you consider a city series to be more important than an early May middle of the week KC trio... Please with this "I'm above this" s***. We all know and love Chicago Cubs fans, and as with any good friendship, the chance to rub s*** in the other's face can't be passed up. I recognize that the Royals, for instance, are our division rivals. The Royals, at least for now are a pathetic ballclub, and I would enjoy a sweep of the Cubs hella more than a sweep of the Royals. That goes for any AL Central team who is not posing a threat to the Sox. This is a creative and entertaining exchange. I had brooms planted in my lawn the weekend of the first Cubs/Sox series. The next weekend? Nothing. Their asses getting swept made up tenfold for every broom planted in my lawn. They counted their chicks before they hatched and were shamed days later. People pretending like Cubs/Sox is just another series entertain me. It's not, no matter what you say.
  15. I wish Manny Ramirez came here. Joke of a HR hitting team aside, Ozzie Gullen managing Manny intrigues me.
  16. Crazy year. I had to drop my ticket plan this year, but the three games I did make it to were all exciting wins. (Quentin's two HR sunday night Angels game, last Saunday v. Cleveland, Game 3 v. Rays). Attending those three softened the blow of losing my seat for the year. It was a fun year, and lets face it, AL Central titles don't grow on trees for us, so I'll take it and run. Though we didn't make it past the ALDS, there was no sweep, and the games against Cleveland, Detroit, and Minnesota to cap off the regular season are as good as a playoff round in my book, and have greatly softened the blow of not advancing. I'm content.
  17. AL wise I hope the Rays sink the Red Sox. Besides the fact that I lump Boston into the same category as the Cubs, I think the Rays might be easier for my runner up rooting interest to the Sox, Philly. I've been a Phils fan for a long time, and that was sweetened in recent years with their Sox connection. When I don't wear my Sox cap, it's the Phillies I represent. I've always also liked the Dodgers (and now with Torre/Manny, even moreso) and Angels, and I've got a place in Seminole about 20 minutes from the Trop which has allowed me many Devil Ray games in years past. The only two teams in this years crop I couldn't care less about were the Sawks and Cubbies. God how I wish the Yanks could have taken that blasted team's spot...
  18. I want this man signed. This even after I called him Alex Cintron in the first month or two of the season. I don't remember the last time I've wanted a guy on our team re-signed this much other than Buehrle and of course Thomas. If we drop this guy because of some hurt feelings from the beginning of the year then I would really be disgusted. This is a winner, and with young guys like Ramirez and Quentin, it's perfect. We have plenty of guys who have won on our team before, but most of them waste their time shrugging or feeling sorry for themselves on the path to first after they've grounded into a double play. As for kicking dirt? Not even a footnote for a footnote in this series/season. It had zero effect on either game's outcome, and he was just as likely to record an out without the theatrics. Thats just the way our offense has been. Say theres a situation, bases loaded, no out, 2-0 count. If I had to choose between one guaranteed run, or letting our offense play it out, I think I'd pick the one guaranteed run.
  19. I was parusing Stubhub not 3 hours ago, resigned to not attending. Score.
  20. Well at least this ends the annoying wearing of karate headbands and Fukudome is my homey t-shirts by Cubs fans. Among the worst things I've ever seen, and I'm glad those clowns shelled $20-$30 on 'em.
  21. Precisely the reason I would have had Zambrano open, followed by Harden or Dempster. I admit, it's tempting to favor Dempster with his joke of a home record, but Lou isn't braindead... That golden parachute of a closer for the opposition (for what, 2 years?) doesn't just trip and fall on #1 starter status over the course of an offseason. If Ryan Dempter were a $100 bill, I would run a counterfeit pen over him, twice.
  22. Sorry, I can't be of help. I still have to take the opportunity to say that Comcast sucks. My parent's house has had issues with the digital cable/internet for about a month. A guy came in, looked at it, told them he couldnt do anything today because he had to go buy parts, and promised to come back the next week. Ridiculously enough, Comcast calls you to confirm the appointment and if you're not home, they postpone it. Additionally, when they call it shows up as a toll-free call, a call that you typically don't answer, or hang up on. This even after my mom gave them her cell # to call because no one is usually at home during the day. So after A MONTH of their bulls*** calling, not getting an answer, and taking it into their hands to reschedule (while the p's are getting charged for regular service) she gets fed up, calls, raises hell, and after an hour of this is assured the technician will come within two days at a time conveniant to her. Lo and behold that very day minutes after that call the cable and internet work like a charm. I'm glad I don't feed my money into this s*** excuse of a company. I've a vast DVD collection for movies and pay extra for MLB baseball that I wouldn't normally get. Other than that I don't watch too much tv so no need for my rear passage to get violated by this clown company. What they've done even back when I lived with the p's until this last month is an abortion of customer service and despicably lazy. Normally I'll have mercy on those I deal with on service phone calls- I'm a very nice person, I always envision myself in others' shoes- but after getting a taste of the s*** they have to offer, dealing with their worthless unqualified scum, I have no problem sending some of their s*** right back at them. I feel very strongly about this company. f*** Comcast.
