  1. Even after the fact I would acknowledge that it (L) came via Lowe, while the Cubs were throwing miracle boy who must've eaten his veggies over the winter after being a welcome sight for opposing teams in the 9th over the past few years. Shorter series so a loss hurts, but again, I'd be stunned if LA walks out of this to get to lose to the Phils. I think tomorrow is more of a question mark than Harden, but I would bet the house that the game "5.2 innings of no hit ball" pitches the Cubs could probably waltz away with no matter who they start.
  2. QUOTE (Wedge @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 12:45 AM) Does anybody else think this game could determine Javy's future with the White Sox? If he s***s the bed I could see the team shopping him hard in the offseason. If he does super great, it's a feel good situation and he stays. Or if he ends up being a vial of TB vaccination tomorrow, you can take it and run getting more for him in the process. I like the idea of him sticking around. If Danks and Floyd are indeed true, and Contreras uncertain to start the season, he's an ideal 4th starter. I have a good feeling about what he gives us tomorrow and throughout the playoffs actually.
  3. If I were a Cubs fan I wouldn't be worried in the least. I'd be shocked if it goes past 4 games. Gotta love Manny though, what an awesome human being he is.
  4. My issue was that I didn't get home from work until about 10 minutes after the fact. I kept track on my cell phone and got to hear the radio call from the top of the 8th on, but I'd love to have seen the game. For example, the MLB Gameday on my phone didn't shed light on the fact that Jimbo took out a few lanes on the Dan Ryan too clearly. They had Alexei batting left, and other stupid gaffes in that vein. Not really complaining as I got to watch fairly accurate PBP, but I wish TBS would at least re-air this snucka in the wee hours. CSN would have given me that chance with their On Demand. It's going to take some nifty usage of sick days/scheduling to even get a glimpse of this first round- I work till about 8 for the rest of the week sans tomorrow when I could care less, and I took my day off from my second job tonight not anticipating the fact that a dumbf*** would delay my exit for 45 minutes (and a 30 min drive home). Sick days will be abused in the forthcoming week(s) for sure. That's the one nice benefit of making like the LAA and clinching in early May... It's sort of difficult modifying a schedule that has been set for two weeks when your team waltzes in a day after the last day. Ah, not complaining though. I've got a good feeling we're about to vaccinate TB and I'm scheduling accordingly.
  5. We should play the Royals just to complete things tomorrow. I don't feel as badly about Javy going in Game 1. I can't say the same for how I felt about him going into this Saturday, but I get this feeling that he might be inspired by the rest of our rotation to not be a vagina anymore.
  6. The way these 3 guys have stepped up in a row isn't 2005-ish, but perhaps may end up being 2008-ish one day.
  7. Pure. Shoving it in their damn faces is such a joyous feeling. There is so much relief that we didn't let those damn Twins get in the way of taking advantage of tanks by the Tribe and Tigers. There was sort of a feeling after Sunday that they were done f***ing around. Not a second too late, either. Tampa Bay is less scary to me than LAA and Boston. I feel like they can be managed.
  8. I'm not saying I believe it, I'm just curious as to how this began. Something I read in some thread somewhere on here, and then driving home from the game today I think it was Holmes or Rogers on WSCR that said something to that extent, and later said IF Walker gets another offseason to work on things with Nick he might bounce back. Then there are the rumblings that he's unhappy, feels the pressure (which I hadn't heard of until today...). I'm of the opinion that down years are not unheard of, and even then the guy had his HR total in the mid 20's, and stepped in nicely at first when Paul was down. Writing him out of this story is rash and premature to say the least.
  9. Why do I keep hearing that Swisher is going to request/demand a trade? What is this, the NFL?
  10. Cell phone pbp for the first 2 hours... Maybe some rain will move the start back some, but I'm bound to miss a nice chunk. I'm a little p'd it's not on CSN because the ability to play the game back from On Demand would be just great, even if I knew the outcome. Something about watching Garcia's glorious return to the Cell in a huge game intrigues me.
  11. Glad I ended up going. It wasn't the festive playoff atmosphere that I keep hearing people claim it was, but no matter. Feeling good about tomorrow.
  12. Crede, Carrasco, Owens, Griffey (a little torn, 51/49 in favor of going), same with Wise. Vazquez, Logan, Ramirez, and finally Wasserman. Surprised at the amount that want OCab gone though- he was far from the problem and would probably be the #2 hitter following the addition of a leadoff hitter. His glovework was worse than advertised, but he finds himself on winning teams, was part of our offensive resurgence after that lol start we had, and lastly, we wouldn't have to worry about looking for infield help. Alexei's a SS but there ARE such things as good rookie seasons followed by a swift plunge off the earth. Besides, he plays second just fine.
  13. I think this goes on until Tuesday. What happens then? I don't even want to venture a guess. I don't think God built the human mind to fully comprehend what it will be like for two sucks like the Twins and Sox on the same field in a single game playoff- I think they built a particle accelerator in France to find that out. Getting swept up there? Fine. Most of us knew this was coming, but kind of like a kidney stone, until you pass it, it hurts. We passed it. Trouble is the Twins went on to lose two to KC and The Indians slapped our pitching staff silly in that same time. Neither game was even close! I tip my cap to the O for scoring a run or two, but what an abomination of a staff! You struggle for runs for weeks now and when you finally start scoring some (to make up some asanine defecit that the staff has already managed to put us in) a f***ing walk, bloop, dribbled single, before long it's none out, bases loaded. I hope they are ashamed of themselves. I'm positive that this doesn't end tomorrow, fairly certain it goes past monday too. Reason being we've already lost 5 in a row. If both teams lose Sunday that will be 6. Monday, 7. That would be epic, and while I'm quite sure they have it in them to pull it off, surely they will take a long look in the mirror before then, right? It would be absolutely futile...
  14. Of course he deserves it. It'd be stupid to think otherwise.
  15. Carrasco has been the face of my frustration with this staff lately. I can't wait for the roster spot he will leave open whenever this season ends. I would rather have it filled by a pitching machine.
  16. QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 10:24 PM) From BP: "This guy is a great pitcher, but his mind is not good." --Twins center fielder Carlos Gomez, on Tigers starter Justin Verlander. "Me and you are going to work this guy and mess up the mind." --Gomez, referring to teammate Alexi Casilla, who bats behind Gomez. This one is from BP but modified as I read a more sensible version somewhere else: "Why you look at me like that? You don't intimidate me. I'm not a player you look at and puts my head down and looks away. Hell no, I look at you right back!" --Gomez, to Verlander after he stared into the dugout. "" --Harrelson on Chris Gomez.
  17. Agreed with everything except the Garcia part. I could see us failing laughably there. In fact, thinking about it right now I actually lol'd at how it would look/feel to earn that makeup game only for Garcia to tell us to sit the f*** down. That would be as fitting an end to this season as going nuts and sweeping the playoffs, and winning all 4 WS games within city limits.
  18. I think the ball is still in our court. We need the sweep they just got. If they lose anything in that span then it's just icing on the cake. Look at the long stretches in even the last month where the lead didn't change, they were step to step with us- when we won, they did, lost, also. 3 staying within a half game isn't asking for the world. Imagine how sweet it would be to give them this hope only to deflate them on a Tuesday at the Cell, maybe even mixing in some hit batsmen in the process.
  19. The unfortunate part is injuries bit us and not them. Our 3B situation was better A.C. than before. There is no arguing that Contreras and Liney going down were the deciding factors though. Quentin too, but numerous guys have taken turns doing an acceptable job of picking up his slack.
  20. Ya know what? Maybe it's because I saw this coming months ago and don't get me wrong, it stung bad as it was going down, but maybe a half hour after that s***show I found optimism that I didn't know I had in me in regards to this season extending beyond Sunday. Win tomorrow and if they lose, all of a sudden we're back to just before 7:05 on Thursday night. Of course, it can go both ways and the hole can wind up getting deeper but I feel unexpectedly optimisic that at worst we'll be .5 out after Sunday's play forcing D-Town to rumble down here in the midst of their offseason. This is our playoff season, starting Friday night. Perhaps the added pressure bodes well into October. If getting swept out of first but not out of the season doesn't light a fire under their slow stubborn asses, then as I said earlier, at least America will be treated to the joy that is the Minnesota Twins on national tv.
  21. At least America won't be treated to s***ty baseball in October. A deserved loss. If we somehow make it in I'll be happy but a part of me knows we don't deserve it AT ALL.
  22. Lets take a walk down memory lane to an hour ago when we had RISP position and left them to die.
  23. I think the first time I rode Giant Drop at SFGAm in 1996 I felt like this.
  24. QUOTE (Bhay99 @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 08:21 PM) is it his fault he's playing or the managers....? Wise doesn't make the lineup. That still doesn't and shouldn't stop people from being unhappy that he's regularly in it. No one was attacking Wise himself, just the fact that he's playing more than he ought to.
  25. QUOTE (Bhay99 @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 08:18 PM) wise ripped that ball....i don't understand why everyone is dogging him after that Because he's done nothing this series. He was nice to have off the bench and that's about it. He is being overused at this point, while a regular sits.
