I like how he's stepped up in Contreras' stead. I wonder why the both couldn't have pitched great ball at the same time, but I'll take it.

Revisited: Thornton as closer 09
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to Princess Dye's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Bringing Jenks in with anything less than a 3 run lead makes me nervous. I keep hearing how he's a/the bright spot of the bullpen but I wouldn't say he's anything special- maybe in the past but certainly not this year. The saves he does earn seem to be more of the leadoff single/walk that eventually ends up at third variety than the filth he has shown in past years. -
Quentin really doing some BP upcoming in KC?
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to Princess Dye's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Quentin himself said he's a fast healer, and for some reason I tend to believe him. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised in the least if he gets an AB before the regular season is up. Maybe DH a game or pinch hit somewhere. This happened early in the month and it's a broken bone, not lupus. -

Lordy how I hate Kasper's voice when he's happy. Surely he's got to be aware of how ridiculous he sounds. I wake up in the morning and I thank God he won't be calling postseason games. -

If he was updating the Minny/O's score I don't care if he repeats it after every batter. -
I'll miss smooth jazz wnua 95.5. Hope he catches on with Fox so I could catch games he calls from time to time. I figured this was coming but now that its so it will be weird to watch games without em both. Hawk and Stone will be weird, like eating canned tuna with watermelon.

QUOTE (Benchwarmerjim @ Sep 13, 2008 -> 09:34 PM) last July 24 against Detroit Billions in international funds rendered useless in one fell swoop.

Horses***. This in combination with our healthy lineup and prize-winning play gives me the heebie jeebies. I can't see us sweeping a double header against anyone let alone a division rival tomorrow and Minny gets the team they outscored 73-4 today. This is the moment I've been bracing myself for. Please, don't even start with the "way to support your team" junk either. We're injured, face a relentless schedule thanks in part to this rain, and get to pay our beloved Twins a visit. If we take but *one* out of three up there I'll consider it to be a major victory. Additionally, when was the last time we swept a doubleheader? Before the time of Christ? I know some scientists just started up a spiffy new collider in Europe. Maybe they also seek the answer to that question. I'm prepared to eat my words, but I'm not expecting I'll need to.

Score just reported Sox sign AJ

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 13, 2008 -> 11:37 AM) Always good to look back at what might have been... good or bad. AJ is one heckuva a player and it is safe to say he was a huge, and still is, part of the winning Sox And thusly needs to finish his career as a Southsider. -
I googled "turn ahead the clock night" and The Rockies and Indians had decent looking unis.

QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Sep 13, 2008 -> 03:13 PM) I can't imagine anything worse. Farmer is probably the worst guy on radio in MLB at this point. I don't think I've come across a statement on this board that I've disagreed with more.
-
Farmer needs to pull a Vin Scully and fly solo. It would be monumental radio and I wouldn't even bother flipping the tv on to watch a game ever again.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 12, 2008 -> 01:42 PM) another question....does anyone have audio from the '05 WS radio/tv? I did actually tape some of the games from ESPN 1000, don't know which ones I managed to get, but I know for sure the majority of Game 4 including the winning call are on one of them. I have no idea how to move them onto a computer or cd though. It's amazing to go back and listen to, and it's cool to hear Rooney/Farmer together again. Awesome thought just randomly popped into my head... Farmer pulling a Vin Scully and flying solo. It would be pristine, historical radio.

So how is the ticket situation looking for tomorrow? I love straight doubleheaders and was wondering if it wasn't too late to get in on the action. -
Thinking waaaaaaaaaaaay too far ahead...
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to Cali's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I like it the way it is now. If it rains, so be it. I thought the rain during Game 2 of the Series gave it an amazing vibe. You wouldn't have that with a roof. -
The Jays did to us what they did to the Twins. While all the warm fuzzy feelings of the Twins failing against Toronto are gone, we're still a game up. In the midst of our s***show against Toronto I was thinking how great it would be to sweep a team, not even for in regards to standings against the Twins because that would mean s***- this race will probably go down till the end- but to simply reap the rewards of playing good baseball and knowing you're heads and shoulders better than that team. With what we've got left on tap, and how we've been playing this is pretty unlikely, but I think it would do wonders mentally, and with the loss of Quentin and his stunt double, this teams state of mind is laughably (like no business in the postseason laughable) pathetic. I work lol hours a week now, so I didn't get a chance to watch or hear (haven't even read) what happened. I see we got 4 runs. I don't think Floyd dunnit, so who was it from our calf-pen who failed this time? *edit* I clicked on a random page in the game thread to see what I feared I would see. Swisher staring at strikes and swinging at balls. This guy was among my favorite ballplayers while in Oakland, and I believe 08 is an aberration, but what the hell? He's even more frustrating than OC doing his 5 star Cintron impersonation in the early part of the season. It's getting so annoying that for a game or two or 9 I'd even put Dye (even Thome or Fields until Quentin's stunt double gets back) at first and use an OF of Ando, Junior and Wise while "K looking" rests his ass in the heat of a race. Mayhaps he could be a defensive replacement in the ninth inning of games we're leading (at first of course).

Lance Armstrong to race TDF in 09
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to Balta1701's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
While many in cycling get caught, Lance has resources they don't and will never have. To me Lance using PEDs is more of a certainty than Andy Pettite using PEDs, and Pettite flat out admitted to it. Great story with the cancer and charity, but this guy is a cheater on the scale of Bonds, Rocket, and the NFL. Anyone else get annoyed when a celebrity starts a foundation for an ailment that somehow effected him/her? They're doing good, but how novel would it be if you had a guy who doesn't have cancer or diabetes (or a daughter with some eye ailment) to start a cancer or diabetes (or eye ailment) foundation? -
Add me onto the skeptical yet pleasantly surprised column. Some of my comfortable spots in regards to the team were what others shat bricks about- Uribe, Contreras most notably. Many seem to be comfortable with Danks and Floyd, and while I'm siked for their success, I keep expecting their youth to smack em any start now. In other words, my concerns about the team were to this point null. It's like a friggin shakespearean tragedy. Quentin, coming from nowhwere to carry the team is out on account of himself, perhaps for the season. The wallowing Konerko catches fire in August and not a moment too soon, assumes Quentin's load and has (3?) consecutive HR games and some ridiculous .360 BA only to fall, also perhaps for the season. Contreras who was one bad pitch from getting crucified in the outfield proves so many wrong, picking up dark horse Cy Young candidate Javy's s***. Danks and Floyd each flirt with no hitters on multiple occasions. We live to see Jerry Owens back on the roster AND Joe Crede may yet play another out for this team. But yeah, I was skeptical, but enjoyed the ride, and am now panicking. Now we've reached the point of no return. If the team was going to fall apart in July, it was forseeable. But we're in 1st on September 9th. It would be cruel to get this far only to collapse.
-
Day to day pain or not, Konerko was a hot hitter for the Sox since early August. I remember what day to day pain did to his swing in the beginning of the season. Granted, that was in his hand, but I'd imagine if he does come back soon this would impact his performance to a degree.

Boston. That offense even without Manny is as potent as it gets. Pitching ain't too shabby either.

Frank Done for the Season
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to greasywheels121's topic in The Diamond Club
He is by far my favorite ballplayer. I hate to see him go. I wouldn't mind one more round with Oakland, but only if he's healthy enough to do it. If not, how about eventually becoming the White Sox 1B coach? It would be awesome to see #35 hovering over first. It would make up for all the times he would bypass it with a long one to left.
