  1. [quote name='TLAK' date='Aug 19, 2008 -> 09:24 PM' post='1722353' After the goof on Icharo in the first I thought we were in for a long night. After the goof on Ichiro I was glad we had posted 13 runs on consecutive nights, Had a nice homestand, and took 2 of 3 (nearly swept) in Oakland. Clayton came through and made me feel foolish for settling on that. It's a knuckleballer tomorrow. I love watching knucklers throw, I hope I'll love it even more tomorrow.
  2. I'd say Crede's return should be discussed in relation to Getz and Wise, not Uribe, but since he'll probably be back after callups...
  3. Being a fan of Orton's since Purdue, I'm happy with this move. He deserved a chance at some point after his rookie season.
  4. I remember a weekend set in Oakland towards the end of 2006. Needs to not happen again.
  5. Disaster, maybe but it can be blamed to a large degree on injuries causing a spirited game of musical chairs. Every team deals with them, ours just happened to strike in the back part of the season. You can hope that the starters minimize the absence of Liney by going deep and deeper and the offense continues, even improves itself.
  6. Cockroach piranhas by 3 or less. Games like the last one against Boston are what has me worried. We close with 3 up in the Dome, get to see the Angels, Yanks, and Red Sox again before that. Lack of 5th starter, shakey bullpen and the next to nothing lead in the standings promise to make this tough. And after reading what I just wrote, I'd change my answer to Twins by 3 or more.
  7. Can't believe no one has mentioned Portillo's cheeseburgers. In a joint known for hotdogs, it's funny how the cheeseburger is the best thing there. Only better burger I've had was in Siesta Keys FL, or J Alexanders.
  8. It'll either be introduced in the playoffs, and if not, to start of next season.
  9. CC wins another. It's so fun to watch when he's not in the division.
  10. And yet they linger .5 games out and will do so until the end of the year. We're not too far under .500 at the dome in the past few years, but I'd rather play our last 3 anywhere else, including 3M, and hell. A lot of baseball boils down to stats, but a lot of it also ends up being mental, and this team with the season on the line against the Twins@the dome is the last thing I want to see. Although, a celebration in that wretched corner of the earth would be as sweet as anything.
  11. QUOTE (YASNY @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 10:26 PM) Just like with my end remark, I qualified Griffey's inclusion on the list with a question mark. Oh I know, my comment was geared more towards fathom's post, which may very well turn out to be legitimate. Time (2 months) will tell.
  12. Griffey Jr. may yet turn out to be a solid aquisition, hell, Edmonds did for the Cubs, and Griff was doing better for the Reds than Edmonds for the Pads. Sample size be damned, but it's too early yet to add him to such a list. I thought Colon racked up some W's while he was over here.
  13. Only NFL game I've been to was a Bears blowout of Seattle in their Super Bowl year. It was fun, but I'd rather be at a Sox or Cubs game without a doubt. I sat in the upper tank that night and saw two fools tumble down the stairs in my section, and IIRC some tard jumped into the lake afterwards. IMO baseball is hella better live than football, and I'd rather see a regular season baseball game than be at the Super Bowl.
  14. Saw a picture of Samuel Jackson, Bernie Mac, and Isaac Hayes on the set of a movie they were working on. I really hope it's not Jules who's set to go next...
  15. The two names I've heard of in connection to the A-B parks (most notably SeaWorld(s) and Busch Tampa/Williamsburg) are Parques Reunidos and Blackstone. Not bad, but I'd personally prefer that the Busch family stays involved with the properties as they are beautifully run, shining examples of what a theme park should be. 10 times out of 10 I'd pick an A-B park over any Six Flags or Cedar Fair offering. I've been visiting both Busch parks and more recently SeaWorld for a long time- it would kill me to see anything negative happen to any of these parks. Great America since 2003-ish is a shining example of this. I have no desire to return to what used to be a crown jewel of the Six Flags chain.
  16. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 9, 2008 -> 08:25 PM) Masset was never a serious starter. He was a shaky reliever - let alone a starter. Right, he wasn't going to be a long term solution, but I recall only positives (could be selective memory here) from his spot starts. No matter, I'm convinced he would be better than whatever monster we have lurking in the minors. It all boils down to this being a fire lit under Javy's ass. That sucks because in a White Sox uniform he fared best when there was little/no pressure on him in '07. If he garners his s*** and we get a Clayton Richard to hold the 5th spot then it won't be ok, but it *would* be making the best out of a rotten situation. And because I trust Garcia more, I'd like to see him signed because of the low risk/possible reward. Crazier things have happened.
  17. Get this man off the stage and off the 25 man roster.
  18. After what happened to Jose tonight, If he's deemed ready to pitch, I don't see how Garcia ends up anywhere else but back with us. Are there any other out of baseball pitchers of his calibur looking for work? Anyone on waivers is going to be blocked, so that's not a realistic route. He's not going to be asking for the bank, and with our position in the standings, sign him, let him loose in AAA to stretch out, maybe pick his fastball up a tick or two, and cross your fingers. This is where the Griffey trade hurts- I think Masset would have shown his worth in a starting role. He's done it before.
  19. A stronger than expected push for Freddy Garcia? I remember being at a game either last year or the year before where he wrecked his ankle running to first as well.
  20. I was in Florida watching the news a few days ago when Morgan Freeman got into his accident. Mac being admitted was just a sentance tacked on to the end of that story, and I didn't give it a second thought. Wow, RIP. Everything save for the Illinois Lottery commercials was awesome, and he was funny as hell. He'll be missed.
  21. Best of Red Sox Board! "Sorry that's just stupid baseball. This team is dead" "f*** you and your f***ing lineup francona" "I bought a new bike today" "No, f*** Hawk, that cock monkey" "You know, there's some decent looking women in this crowd"
  22. When you don't drink and have sex, things like Jerry Reinsdorf and taunting kids at a ballpark obviously fill that hole in your life.
  23. From the one I read it was believed that the Sox did have a rep there as well. He's also just looking to pitch the remainder of the year with whoever signs him and then become a FA.
  24. QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 08:27 PM) If the Sox make the playoffs, I think that he has it. He's surpassed Hamilton in HRs, OBP, and SLG. Good God, our 'pen has been awful. When is Linebrink scheduled to return? Thought I read not before the end of the month somewhere. Glad for the W. I'm happy Uribe is making the best of a rotten 3rd base situation and helping us win. I really hope something positive happens to our bullpen be it via pickup, internal promotion, or lephrachaun.
