  1. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:15 PM) Because the point of the thread was the never ending ass sucking Hawk does on the air for the Twins. It. Gets. Old. Complimenting is one thing. Sucking ass for 9 straight innings of a 4 game set is another. It does get old, but so does blowing a multi-run lead against the Twins. You don't hear much verbal ass pats aside from the generic spiels when we're playing KC, but who has been nipping at our heels all season/taking vital games from us in heartbreaking manner: Royals or Twins? The Twins played a great series, Hawk was frustrated by this, his comments were his way of venting those feelings.
  2. I don't understand why Hawk and DJ are being brought into this, the game was terrible to watch regardless of what an old pirate lookalike and smooth jazz wnua 95.5 had to say about it. We do well at home, so do they. We're built around the long ball, they are on fundamentals- pitching, defense, baserunning. Their style of play is perfectly suited to beat us. If any team gets as careless with the ball as we did today, a sound baseball team like the Twins should and will take advantage of it. You can't forget about Nathan. I would feel more optimism against any other closer in the league with as much a 3 run ninth inning deficit. Twins up half a run going into the ninth? Save your energy for tomorrow. I'm glad we're out of there and still in first, I'm glad Minnie plays almost exclusively on the road in September, and I hope this serves as a wake up call to the White Sox.
  3. I'll buy some bar out for a night and everyone's invited if we win this.
  4. I want to be the one to christen their new field with the champagne bottle.
  5. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 10:46 PM) I love Manny sometimes. Pretty much all the time. Just about everything he's done has been good for a laugh and harmless unless you're the Red Sox ticket guy. TO causes problems. Brett Favre is causing problems (sad for me to admit). Board Game caused problems, although in his defense he's been a boy scout since he went to Texas. What has ManRam done other than be clutch and badass at the same time? ESPN makes him out like he's cancer personified. His co-workers don't seem to mind him, certainly his pitchers don't. I want him to stay in Boston because it's like a good tv show when he's there, and it's the only reason I pay attention to the Red Sox anymore. And I guess I enjoy watching Wake pitch, but he's a whole hell of a lot less fun. Some say he s***s on the game. They need to take a closer look at baseball's past.
  6. I worked at MidAmerica until right before the conversion to National City. I knew MAB was going to be purchased by National City a while before it took place, and meant to buy stock but never did. Was super pissed the day it was announced to us. Now, all of my former co-workers are genuinely worried. A few weeks ago when I dropped by my old Branch Manager told me it was hovering around $3.00 a share. Thats a SWIFT drop from what it was when I left to say the least. I work for MB Financial for now (any day and I'm outta that hole) and I know they've avoided this mess because they were smart with their rates before the s*** hit the fan. They lost out on business then, but they're sitting pretty now.
  7. QUOTE (sox84 @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 02:53 PM) They didnt have the broadcasting rights til 06, but I agree with you on the 'pro-cub' nonsense they spout. With few exceptions, they lean toward the cubs. Cant stand Boers or Bernstein, and Holmes aims too much for every controversial topic he can think of for me to listen any length of time to him. IIRC Bernstein is a Sox fan. There are times when you could come here and not know for certain if it's a Sox fan site or not, and that could be expected based on how the team plays. Fans become critical of their team with bad play.
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 08:47 AM) That made me smile on a s***ty day.
  9. I slept through the game. What happened, did Swish not make a diving catch that would stop the winning run from crossing the plate or something?
  10. QUOTE (rudylaw @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 07:32 PM) What is there to be positive about? He is just bad right now. We can not survive with Paul as our full time 1st baseman. Boston seems to be faring well with their Captain in a very similar situation. You just need the right guys around him to pick up the slack. Yes, we'd probably have more than a 1.5 game cushion if Paulie weren't batting the legal BAC for driving, but it's just as well if they guys around him do their job, which despite # of runs scored this year, is inconsistant.
  11. Watching games at the Metrodome gives me a damn headache. Don't care if we hit 4 slams in a row, this one is being monitered via the radio. An empty field in Iowa with cattle and haystacks would be a more appealing place to play major league ball.
  12. Thought the KC series was four and Twins series was 3, but wasn't sure. 2-2 against Minn would be great, but it could go either way as we've seen.
  13. At this point in the season it's safe to call an upcoming series the biggest of the year, and even if we sweep and make it a 5.5 game lead, that's not enough to feel safe until there's a late september champagne party in the Sox locker room. That day comes and I'll smoke a nice cuban imported Montecristo cigar somewhere innaporpriate.
  14. Good to see the Javy of '06 strutting his s*** on the mound again. So many have been vocal about Jose Contreras, but this guy here was supposed to be a key part of the rotation coming into the year (potential #1 starter). After witnessing 2006 calling Javy a dark hose Cy Young candidate was asinine, crazier thing have happened, but his past work speaks for itself. Stepping back though, you can't really complain. I had high hopes for Danks and he's come through, Floyd has surprised to this point. You win some, you lose some. Javy sucks, Count puts up a nice first half, Floyd throws some near no hitters, and Danks makes me want to call the police on Kenny Williams for making that trade. Next year, even this year, Floyd could pull his best impression of arson at a BP station for all anyone knows. I don't know if we'd have to be as worried about the Twins nipping at our heels if Javy comes close to his '07 though. Wasn't expecting him to repeat '07, but again, this is a 2006 Vazquez. As for this loss? I'm not too bothered by it. Taking 2 of 3 from this current Tigers team is good enough in my book. The next series is where it's at, and even if we somehow sweep, this won't be over until September. Lest I remind all that '05 wasn't claimed until the very end. Much stress ensues from here on out.
  15. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 10:44 PM) without another SP we dont win this year. end of story. I don't know about that. The DL time may help recharge Contreras, and he was a big part of our early success. He comes close to his early season form and that would be better than any possible pickup, especially when you look at what a Doc or Duch would cost. If not, we have a band of 5th starters who have stepped in and had respectable outings. Beyond that, playoffs offer a 4 man rotation, and the biggest question marks there are if Danks and Floyd have enough left to make it that far. The bullpen is a whole hell of a lot more fragile than the SP situation. They've been good so far, but I still get nervous about Linebrink, Dotel and Jenks. I thought I heard Thornton was hurting a bit as well. For the roles they have, Masset (but moreso) Thornton have the most calming effect on me. Other than that, currently we have Wasserman called up. *That* is an issue. Logan and Carrasco don't exactly lull me to sleep either. This is probably the scarring effect of last year's calfpen speaking, but if there's a trade to be made, I'd like to see a relief pitcher before anything else.
  16. I knew that sign looked familiar when I saw it. Sorry though, other than the always hilarious "keep him in" sign when an opposing pitcher is getting lit up, the recent "Uribe marry me" (held by a dude nonetheless) takes the cake. And the pie, and the canoles, and the babkas. Well, Uribe takes them and eats them, but it's almost the same.
  17. Whoa thanks for the link. I attended Opening Day so I never got to see that.
  18. GNR had a cover song on the Spaghetti Incident, I don't care about you (f*** you). Originally done by Fear I believe. Swift and to the point.
  19. Got to do my jig in front of a bunch of Cubs fans. Pure. Too early to call it game of the year though with two more here against D-Town and then KC and THEN Twins. Ozzie said it right, if we can walk away from this road trip with a respectable mark and continue playing like we have after, then I will CURSE my f***ing job situation for forcing me to not renew my plan.
  20. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 10:24 PM) No. Anyway, if Josh Fields is the key to getting some quality pitching in here, the Sox should not let Crede's injury nix the deal. Josh's production at the plate is not that much better than Uribe's to offset his poor defense compared to Juan's. As a defender of Juan's, I'm worried that if he's got a set spot in the lineup he'll go hacking away for the fences again. As we sit right now, he gets a spot start here and there, goes 2-3, knocks some doubles, and we're all smiles. It just seems like he needs a fire under his ass to produce. Fields has had one game with the big club this year, and has already been productive. (Dare I entertain the thought of signing Uribe cheaply to continue his current role in the future?) People's memories are poor. Fields was one of the few bright spots of that s***covered '07 season. Keep him here to spot the lamb for the rest of the year, then trade Crede off to a gyros place in greek town during the offseason. Fields fails? The reward of a slugging third baseman is greater than the risk.
  21. Nothing I'd be alarmed at with them competing with TB and Boston, and the pitching staff they sport.
  22. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 04:32 PM) Sorry that your high school blondes ruined you for life, but I really dont see hair color as a basis to attach so many different fears. Didn't ruin anything, just steered me in the right direction. But yeah, Chipper, Doc, Roberts, Street, all would be nice here so as long as we use our farm of weeds minus Fields to get them.
  23. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 07:29 AM) I dont care what any of you say, Erin Andrews = HAWT. If you disagree, then you have different taste in women /argument In high school every blonde (surprisingly not as many blondes on the Poms which were hotter than the actual cheerleaders) I knew had issues galore, whether it be the classic binge and purge, or b****iness (like you wouldn't believe). I feel a bit saddened that a lot of my hs party memories were based in a bathroom making sure no one Bon Scott'ed. Most were so emotional that I'd feel safer at the mouth of an active volcano. I'd base my love of the brown haired on this, but even back then I gravitated towards them. Plus most greek girls sport the brown lettuce and greek girls=win.
