2008 Chicago Cubs Catch-All Thread

I think the second coming of Christ just took place at Wrigley Field. /green -
I heard something about this guy (prof at Carnegie Mellon w/ terminal cancer) last year, didn't think much of it. CNN.com proclaims that he died today, and being bored I clicked the link and gave it a read. Shortly after I'm on youtube looking for this "Last Lecture", found it, and expected to skim through it. It was a real good watch, and if you've got the time, I suggest a view. Watched it from beginning to end. Just having turned 22, everything is swirling around in my life right now- people are coming and going, tough times at work, do I have what it takes to finish school, what the hell do I do with myself for the rest of my life, etc. This was a soothing helpful "moment of clarity".

Eh I'll probably never leave this industry... That's both good and bad.

The brunettes float my boat I guess.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 12:16 AM) I want Albert Pujols trimming my bushes and hitting 100 homers for the White Sox while I win the lottery, am given the keys to a new Corvette, and Adriana Lima AND Erin Andrews stand at my doorstep telling me that they had a premonition that they needed to be with me, if just for one night...but none of that is going to happen. c'mon now, out of everyone, Erin Andrews? You could pretty much trip and fall on the remote, hit some numbers in the process, and land on someone better. Dr. Cutty from House, the two girls that aren't bats*** crazy on Friends etc.

Haha it sure would be nice to see Jones instead of Joe at third. I would probably be more excited about seeing that lamb of ours off to another team. Imagine that. The picture beside the definition of "swing for the fences" hitting the road to make room for one who flirted with .400 for a while, and is still closer to .400 than .300. But that dude is so unacquirable... I've actually entertained the thought of a Roy Halladay, Huston Street, etc. Not until this thread has Chipper Jones crossed my mind, and sadly, never again. But damn I want that to happen.

Yeah, there's no comparing Hawk's most outrageous displays to even the more tame Santo. Hawk shouts words. Santo is like a pint of something strong mixed with a splash (ok, 3 splashes) of Johnny Red Kerr+being out in the sun all day+ the dementia that comes with old age. I'd sit here and rip that act apart, but I've grown to appreciate, even enjoy it. You don't need the guy to say anything smart with Hughes sitting next to him, and I'd rather have a homer calling my games (if I were a cub fan) than someone hired from across the country with no Chicago roots. I enjoy them, but Farmer/anyone in the world maybe even an animal own their s***. -
I think Cabrera has been one of the reasons for our success this year despite a miserable start. Dealing him for a starting pitcher, even if it is Lowe, would be ridiculous unless a little birdie sends us a Brian Roberts/solid fielding IF with a good-great bat albeit no pop.

ESPN rates top Ozzie blow ups

Nice, I almost forgot that Ozzie's words at Mariotti were the night we hung 20 on then soon to be Champion Cards. I remember being at that game feeling 100% certain we would repeat. Yikes. -

"the White Sox bring out a lineup card that includes team photos and faux e-mail addresses" lmao. I don't remember hearing about this. -
Good for him. C'mon now, if word got out that he was doing this, he would be murdered in the process by some sorry ass Cubs fan who was too drunk to catch the rest of that magical inning. The people who thought this up are hyenas.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 08:53 PM) Tony Clark!! Reading some posts at NSBB.com, its so funny how similar they react to us. Chicago baseball fans seem to overreact more than any other sports fan. But their posts are so identical to ours it's scary. Can't wait till the Brew Crew tie them up after tonight. We don't use the term "soapdropping" (and improperly at that) after every negative thing that happens to our team. That makes us better in my book by eleventy times. What CC is doing to the NL makes me proud in a way that we had to deal with him for years. For him to leave the division and join the NLC of all other divisions, it's just a shame Johan didn't sign with the Reds at this point. Here's hoping the Crew make him an offer he can't refuse after outright winning the NLC. -
lol@the Juan Uribe marry me signs shown on the broadcast. Richard showed some flashes, nice to see Thome drive one deep, and not much more can be said about Quentin. This was a game where if it would come down to the last strike in the bottom of nine, I'd still feel safe in assuming we could come back. Luckily it didn't, and I can happily blame cigarettes and alcohol for the years shorn of the end of my life instead of the White Sox.

AZ-dirty house of hurty for the Cublets. -
Texas seems to own our s***. While the Twins lost, it's a little disheartening to see how the Tigers have struggled with a KC team that took two out of three from us at home this past weekend.

Very dissapointing. -
QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 20, 2008 -> 12:39 PM) Contreras to the DL with suckitis. Might as well DL Javy and a few of our other Cy Youngs (pen and rotation) then. And Coop too. *Edit* Didn't think I needed to use that green font thing, but just in case.

Glad there was the Extra Innings preview today. Tigers/O's was actually a pretty good game with a pretty good outcome. The Twins broadcast showed a wretched looking girl doing a wretched thing with her tongue. That and the way the game was going sent me right back to the Sox who were doing wretched things against KC. After that I just stuck with Detroit and Baltimore.

The Robbie Gould Show.

There is no reason for what's taking place on WSCR right now. I don't care if it was Rice or Favre, let alone the idiot kicker.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 18, 2008 -> 10:26 PM) I knew that your statement was a statement. It just seemed so over-the-top and memorable that it deserved parody/ribbing. This team does evoke some serious love/hate feelings. I'm just glad it's been more love than hate. To some, baseball is a game of pitch by pitch, to others week by week, etc. You can't really blame either type. The best would be if they end up playing in October. At that point I nominate THIS.TEAM.IS.DEAD. for official club slogan. It sure beats the hell out of It's gonna happen (especially when it clearly isn't).

"I just can't stand to watch another half a season of him popping up at least once a game and then act disappointed. I have accepted the fact that he will pop up. Why can't Pauly?" No humor in Konerko popping up and hanging his head, it just reads funny.

Phils are my favorite NL team. Hopefully this is a great addition for them, and they didn't have to sell their farm.

Imagine the riot t-shirt vendors (and the fans who frequent their establishments) at Wrigley would have if Hendry got Yu. I think I would move far away after about my third Fuku Yu shirt sighting.
