  1. I think that was last year en route to their swift exit from the NLDS. That lame ripoff of Jimmy Buffett's style is amongst my reasons for disliking the Cubbies too.
  2. This is no big deal, and any outrage/shock over this is laughable. If the kid was getting tanked, I would understand. He had a sip, and the dad that allows a sip every here and there is better than the dad who strictly forbids it only to see his kid wind up being a lush the second he's out of the parent's grasp. The lesson of moderation is the most valuable lesson you can be taught regarding alcohol. In Europe wine is all but standard at family dinners/family events.
  3. I would think Richar instead of Getz, no matter what his numbers are in Charlotte. He's already been here, and his performance was acceptable.
  4. Had some ridiculous bbq beans at Naperville's Ribfest a little while back.
  5. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 15, 2008 -> 12:44 PM) Jesse Rogers was just on with Mike Murphy (ugh) and insinuated that Josh Hamilton was using a corked bat during the Derby yesterday. Leave it to the f***ing beat reporter to suck the joy out of a picnic on a sunny day. I realize that their jobs are based on having a story, but at what point do you prioritize your decency as a human over being a bottom feeding rat? My favorite is when I'm listening to Boers and Bernstein or MJH, and Bruce Levine or Rogers will have important breaking news that's so far off the mark that you'll never hear it again. For example: 3:05 Cubs on verge of trading Cedeno and prospects to M's for Bedard, deal is all but done. 3:35 Cedeno will take Theriot's place in the lineup for the next week because Ryan is suffering from a massive bout of fail. In other news Bedard signed a 14 year contract including a full no-trade clause today. Both the M's and Bedard have long shown interest in continuing their partnership, and the M's have laughed in the face of GM's interested in him, most notably Jim Hendry.
  6. A car with a fountain on it, giraffes, investments, obviously you'd have to do the charity/family/friends bit, I'd buy back my Sox tickets that my wallet essentially forced me to drop. DrunkBomber's idea is the best though.
  7. I go to Giordano's for both thin and stuffed. I can't wait till after I marry and have my kids. I will gorge on that pizza in a way that will sadden nations with food shortages all around the world. (but I'll donate to charities that help said nations to ease my guilt.)
  8. Oh unless we add in place of Conteras, but not Vazquez because he has 84349843993498 strikeouts to go with his 6.90 ERA/ 19 HR's per start... After all, we're looking for sick s***, not productivity. We have 2, possibly 3 (if you believe in Floyd) starters at this point. Vazquez was supposed to be a Cy young candidate, Count was supposed to terrorize us on the mound. Both have had similar results. Early on, Vaz delivered, Count stunned the disbelievers, lately it hasn't been so, but I trust both can at the very least be effective 4/5 starters (which places MUCH pressure on the Floyds and Danks of our world). In other words, Contreras, Vazquez, Floyd, and Danks (because they haven't seen this much work) are the key.
  9. I'll be pleasantly surprised if our Sox make any significant moves. In fact, I almost don't care. I think our pitching is just about set. I'd say another bat off the bench that can spot K-Nerko but we've got Swish, and Anderson/Wise can spot Swisher in that scenario. Two most guys I'm worried about are Crede and Paulie, and while Crede has struggled of late, he's also carried the team on his lame back early on, so he gets the benefit of the doubt. Paulie has pulled this s*** before, and for now I trust he'll work out of it. If not, well, we've got Swish who can spot him and Anderson/Wise who would take Swisher's spot, so I don't see what we would need to do to improve unless we replace one of ours with a bonifide superstar. 1B Konerko 2B Ramirez 3B Crede SS Cabrera C Pierzynski LF Quentin CF Swisher RF Dye DH Thome Bench: Uribe (2B 3B SS 1B?), Anderson (OF) Wise(OF) Hall (C, 1B) Pearl Throwers Logan Russell Masset Thornton Dotel Linebrink Jenks Buehrle Contreras Danks Floyd Vazquez I'm at a loss as to how reasonably improve this. Sure, we can get something, but without sacrificing out farm ( our weed farm (the grass killers, not the fun kind)), how? I'd love to see Street in our bullpen, but Dotel and Liney have been fine. Hall has been great thus far, and the latest Uribe sighting at 3rd has shown that our infield is secure. If you're questioning K-nerko at first, then simply move Swish in his place (though I don't believe Guillen would do that) and Ando/Wise in Swisher's place. I'm sitting here willing to be surprised, but content if I'm not.
  10. Truer words haven't been spoken that the winner of this derby will not be remembered in light of Hamilton's show. The guy won it, and the mercy rule should have been put in effect after his 20th 500 ft. shot.
  11. In the name of all that's fair and right, if I were Bud Selig I would call this thing right now after what just happened. I'm being serious.
  12. While we're tossing out names of Oakland pitchers we like, I'll add Huston Street. Teams would lie down and die if we added that little tidbit to the back end of our pen.
  13. I like knuckleballers. I don't think our catchers would be suited for them however. Opposing hitter gets a single and imagine the merry-go round that would take place on the basepaths... And as much as I'd like Charlie to succeed on the big stage, he could tear AAA up, but everytime he comes up we're down 6 before we know it. Stick to Contreras, he's done it before (this year too) he's capable of doing it again.
  14. 6 disc cd changer in car, XM satellite radio/AM for sports and I'm set. I never bothered with an ipod. To me, they cheapen the experience. Damn near everyone I know probably can't recall the last time they listened to an artist's release track by track, front to back, and it's sad cause they're missing out. If I wanted to, I could probably burn or download most of GNR's fabled Chinese Democracy right now. It just wouldn't be the same as finally getting my hands on a copy of something I've waited so long for. That, and I really think actually buying the cd and physically putting it in the changer will let you appreciate it and allow it to grow on you more for reasons I'd get into, but I'm tired. It stems from me owning a RIO 20GB mp3 player a few years back. I found my attention span for music was reduced significantly. Where once I'd listen to a cd for month(s), that turned into days with the mp3 player.
  15. About velocity being down, I wasn't particularly watching for it, but I know he hit at least 93 a few times, and he's not been known to hit 98-99. It's either he has his fork working, or our outfielders get a good workout chasing down doubles. That said, Texas is a hot hitting team. Our pitching staff as a whole didn't do much to stop them this weekend. I realize Jose has been touched up quite a bit in the last month though. I'm not ready to pronounce him dead yet.
  16. Shaping up to be a nice day. *knocks on wood* *sends him to 60 day dl*
  17. Solid, Juan. He sits a lot but every chance he gets he contributes.
  18. I thought the Yanks also had Ponson throwing the pearl for em. Slam dunk of a pitching staff.
  19. Gavin Floyd doesn't mind facing Detroit one bit.
  20. We just don't match up well against teams that dictate the pace of the scoring/offense like Texas does. We're much better off when we knock 4 or 5 in during the early innings and add a run or two later on. We still make it exciting with errors, keeping the starter in for 5 batters too long, Jenks being a clown, etc., but it usually works out in our favor. That, and early on Danks IS our stopper. Every other starter we have has contributed toward an early grave with my name on it from time to time.
  21. Damn it, looks like Row feels right at home in this city. At least the DP is out of order.
