Huston Street would be very nice in our pen. Actually, "Huston Street" and "our pen" are two phrases I probably shouldn't utter together unless it happens. Even though what we have is working quite nicely, I still find myself nervous after our starter is pulled with even up to a 3 run lead. It's probably a product of last years collection of clowns, but I keep telling myself that and then we have KC by the throat twice only to let them back in...

Sad to see him go, glad Uribe was held on to. I remember leaving a game early once only to have Pablo hit either a game tying or winning HR.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 11:07 AM) Healthy and improving with the bat. Numbers recovering. They are juggling Getz and Richar, to get them both playing time, as they are both doing well (Richar lately, Getz for most of the season). Bourgeois is heating up too. So if Uribe gets traded later, there are definitely some options at Charlotte. None that I would be willing to test out while we're contending.

Tomorrow they can get within a 1/2 game and we can't do anything about that. On one hand it's pretty demoralizing to win 15/14 like they've done and not be able to catch the first place team, on the other we've also been pretty damn good and haven't been able to shake them off. I still think in the end Detroit is somehow going to be involved, but for now, somethings gotta give- I doubt both teams can keep winning every game they play too much longer.

Thats gotta be the closest a human being will come to looking like Peter Griffin.

So just off the top of anyone's head, what are some other starters who could be moved before the deadline? I hear Toronto has a pair in Doc/AJ, what else?

Mike North: He gone!

lol@ain't that a kick in the mouth being played during the North segment on MJH. It was good (and weird too) to hear North/Mac on the same show. I'd love to him to catch on at ESPN, but his damn ego probably wouldn't let him settle for whatever they would offer him. I wish the last few weeks of his time at the Score wasn't all on-air contract squabbles. -
Her seat probably has vd now.

QUOTE (almagest @ Jul 4, 2008 -> 11:55 PM) Juan Uribe 2008 OPS+: 57 Carlos Quentin 2008 OPS+: 136 Jermaine Dye 2008 OPS+: 139 Yep, certainly a valid comparison there! Juan Uribe = Carlos Quentin = Jermaine Dye. Uribe for the 2008 All-Star Game! Sometimes I wonder about some of you... " I understand Dye or Quentin have done enough good to get a free pass from time to time, but failing in a clutch situation is just that. " I wasn't comparing Uribe to Queye. If it's 2-2 in the bottom of the ninth and two outs in the World Series and Jesus Quentin dribbles it to the pitcher. Do you want to hide behind your stats then? Baseball is a game of hit or miss. One day the team MVP will win a game, another day the mascot or bench coach will. It's obvious that there are people who believe that Uribe could end up winning a game here or there for the team. If there weren't, he'd be talking to his bats and bickering playfully with Ed Farmer in Colombia instead of the bench. But you know what? I kind of like a lot of your guys approach. Let's DFA STFU LULZ him and bat with 8 guys instead of 9, and lets just put one of those bp ball screens at short on defesnse.

Saddam Hussein should have hidden at second with no outs @the Cell.

Good now I'll know who to blame for my tickets and the kittens who are being eradicated at the local pound. And also I got a diet coke instead of a regular coke at Portillo's today.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 4, 2008 -> 09:03 PM) Ramirez is 3 for his last 18. His OBP is a whopping .309. Someone explain how he would have made up the 6 run difference? He could have hit an eleventy hundred run homer!!!111one11! The Uribe hate is lame. One, you've got to rest Ocab/Ramirez since they've started about 100 games in a row (which could have been remedied by starting Uribe sparingly in that stretch aka USING HIM EFFECTIVELY), Two, you want to showcase Uribe? Start him in place of that lamb at third instead of Ozuna. And then even after it's decided that Ozuna starts, he bats sixth! That would have me ROFL if I weren't a Sox fan, but I am, so it just has me TSATV (throwing s*** at TV). But really, Quentin or Dye K's or pops one up to the catcher in a clutch spot and everyone is fine. Uribe does it and it's cause for death by firing squad and Ozzie's a f***ing moron for not starting Shoeless Babe Ramirez for the 80th time in 50 games. I understand Dye or Quentin have done enough good to get a free pass from time to time, but failing in a clutch situation is just that.

I really hope the fanfare doesn't get into Alexei's head. Great start by Javy, that's very encouraging.

Javy had a good start, and after 7 wins in a row, that's good enough for me today. -

I is worried about Javy. Javy gives us a chance, we should be fine. -
Although DJ has been pretty solid lately IMO. Certainly nothing like he was in the past when it was like listening to smooth jazz wnua on a dreary, rainy day. Probably has everything to do with the Sox being succesful. I would keep Farmer with Stone, and leave TV as is.

2008 Chicago Cubs Catch-All Thread
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to DBAHO's topic in The Diamond Club
That silly thing that Soto/Blanco do with Cubs pitchers where theycall for face high fastballs on 2 strike counts (and then everyone swings) pisses me off. -
What goes around comes around. The heart pains he gives me when he puts two guys on with no out in close situations has come back to bite him in his ass in the form of back pains. Lucky for him he somehow manages to weasel out of those exciting moments.

Official 2008-2009 NBA Thread
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to The Beast's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Figured I'd post this here... http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/8286654?MSNHPHMA The Seattle Supersonics are no more. The team is moving to Oklahoma City, changing it's name and colors. Sad to see it happen. Moving to OK is bad enough, but they have to wipe the name out too. What the hell are they gonna call themselves? Duststorms? Really lame imo. -
Something has clicked. Not once, even when we were down 4-3 late, was I worried. I *almost* expected a shot of Linebrink to set up another walk-off.

Indians @ White Sox 7/2/08
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to WSoxMatt's topic in 2008 Season in Review
I wouldn't mind outright beating their ace. I also wouldn't mind a rain delay about 3 innings in for a good while forcing the starters out (due to the Twinks winning and I really don't feel like f'ing around with CC). Masset awaits them. -
Hoping for a rainout tonight...

Since there's no gamethread yet, Crede's sitting. I'll throw up in my mouth if Ozuna is at third again. -
/\Awesome sig/\ A month ago we would've been happy with the HR/tie and probably would have had 3-4 more innings of uneventful baseball thusly wasting the bullpen before losing in heartbreaking fashion (probably via leadoff walk or an error). That was a month ago, and this is now. In '05 someone always stepped up to be the hero. Earlier in the week it was Quentin, Swish etc. ,yesterday Alexei. Kinda give a whole new breath of life to Hawks pick to click.

I'm enjoying M&H in the mornings. Hopefully something solid will replace their old slot or they extend Murph's.
