  1. Rooney's call was better. I'm so happy I taped the am1000 broadcast. I got the World Series dvds and all that, but it's the cassette recordings of the home call that give me the chills if I ever listen to them.
  2. Haha a bunch of Cubs fan friends sang Go Cubs Go at me today but then I told them the powerhouse Giants won.
  3. Laughable. I'm all for Alexei's success and believe he will be great for us, but what he's done has essentially amounted to a Juan Uribe hot streak with home runs being replaced by singles and doubles. Should Alexei be playing right now? Hell yes, you play your hot hand. Give him time to show he can withstand an MLB season. At the moment, it sure looks like he can and will, but funnier things have happened. Juan's regular AB's are most likely over with the Sox. As a fan of his, bummer, but it's nice to see him raise his average 15 points despite this with pinch hit ABs and infrequent starts. But about the regular AB's being over with...thank God, because who the f*** needs a gold glove shortstop who can also bring 20 HRs 80 RBI to the table.
  4. The bounceback of both Swisher and Cabrera in such a short period of time is what warrants higher marks. Buehrle also falls into this category. They've been so good it makes you forget the misery of yesterday.
  5. A: Dye+ Quentin+ Linebrink+ Hall Danks Thornton- B: Swisher+ Cabrera+ Ramirez+ Buehrle+ Floyd Logan Dotel- Masset- Jenks- C: Wise+ Thome+ Russell Vazquez- Crede- D: Uribe+ Konerko Anderson- Ozuna- What Swisher/Cabrera have done of late more than makes up for their early season struggles. Thome isn't quite all there, but his power certainly is, which is why I don't have him with Paulie, Uribe (both of whom were DL'd at one point or another and haven't gotten the chance to play for awhile), Anderson (who I think needs more playing time to get into a groove but really is running out of chances) and Ozuna (08's Toby Hall). I would have damned Crede to that list but his hot start spared him, although you can only use that debit card for so long before the balance of goodwill is at zero. Javy has been the most disspointing of our starters. Here was a guy who was supposed to be a dark horse Cy Young contender. His nice start is a distant memory. Floyd has gotten knocked around a bit lately, but his expectations weren't that high, AND he nearly threw 2 no-hitters. I guess to sum it up my grades are based on expectations coming in, and what has actually transpired.
  6. Having not seen the Fri/Sat games to know if he pitched, he probably wanted to give him some work thinking he wouldn't struggle with the mighty SF Giants. Sox won, Twinks lost- albeit to the Tigers, but if the Giants came back those two would simply have to take the back seat in terms of excellence.
  7. I think he's just trying to give the White Sox the home town discount in a not so subtle manner.
  8. It's pretty refreshing to have only heard Cubs fans singing their song 4 times in the last 4 series they've had. Interleague play helped wreck us last year. 10-5 with three sweeps is probably not the best we could have done (Rockies), but I'll take it and run. Whatever the hell the Twins and Tigers are doing right now makes this nice, but not quite as nice as it should have felt. Good to see Cuddyer and Mags down for a little though.
  9. Esteban Loaiza comes to mind. They would sail away with the division. I'm kidding but I'm not.
  10. Haha the video is a great idea. Hopefully it was unlabeled. I could just see you're uncle sitting down on the couch after a long day at work, popping the tape in and being bombarded with low quality footage with funny music and an old narrator.
  11. haha i bet a lot of cubs fans who probably brought their little flags over were hoping by the third inning that no one noticed them.
  12. IIRC the Cubs haven't lost 4 in a row all year, and have only lost 3 in a row once. A sweep would be HUGE. Two days in a row they've given up double digit runs, on tuesday they gave up 7 runs to the O's and lost. 3/4 wins for us since we last met, 3/4 losses for them. If that clowning that took place last weekend is what it takes to set things straight in this city baseball-wise, then it's a price I'd happily pay. *Edit* Further, they got swept in Tampa before they wiped the floor with us. 4-6 in their last 10. If only we could have taken one or two last week... Wrigleyville would be in full blown panic mode. Cubs postgame on am720 is almost as entertaining as the actual game.
  13. QUOTE (Nokona @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 05:08 PM) WE DONT HAVE TO LISTEN TO THAT f**GOTY SONG FOR ONCE YESSS Thats all that matters to me.
  14. I love Farmer and Stone. That said, I'm tuning in to 720 AM so I could get my jollies.
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 03:35 PM) If we somehow make the playoffs please tell me Jose will be a long reliever and not start a game. Why? He's been serviceable (to say the least) all year.
  16. So is the crowd predominantly Sox? Wrigley looked like it was about 80/20, and it would be dissappointing if it wasn't the same in our favor at our home park.
  17. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 01:16 PM) Darn, now that we are done with the pitchers batting, was hoping we were done with the automatic outs in our line up. I think it's against the rules of baseball to have a 3 man batting order.
  18. QUOTE (YASNY @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 10:52 AM) Ummmm ... no. Retiring Harold's number before he retired was a mistake. Building a statue of an active player would be even worse. Best watch your mouth or he'll throw a cutter at you in your sleep. It was written kinda tongue in cheek though. Sarcastic, but not really since I think he deserves one the moment he retires.
  19. If we win, I'll be pleasantly surprised later today. I'm not subjecting myself to this s*** again.
  20. We should build a MB statue while he's still pitching.
