  1. My favorite Sox player to hit a HR against the Cubs. Those boos were delicious at the beginning of the AB.
  2. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 20, 2008 -> 01:06 PM) He was all OVER THAT 670 certainly wasn't.
  3. I think going solo is awesome. I also never saw any fault in catching a movie solo.
  4. J.P. Ricciardi rips into Adam Dunn and Adam Dunn in turn rips into Canadian currency (and Ricciardi too). "If anything happens, I ain't going to Toronto," Dunn said. "I can eliminate one team. I'm not converting my dollars to loonies and toonies just yet."
  5. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...sp&c_id=mlb Missing his next start at the least, and they're gonna do an MR arthrogram Friday. Looks like Marshall is coming back.
  6. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jun 19, 2008 -> 03:25 PM) It seems like they've played them about 30 times already this year...them and the Padres. Then what's funny is I get to hear from Cubs fans lamenting "nice sweep against the Royals and Twins....2 terrible teams". It's such a joke. The very same Royals that broomed the NL Central's 2nd place (by what 3.5 games?) team. Cubdom is Ignorancedom (in MANY cases).
  7. QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ Jun 19, 2008 -> 02:47 PM) even on a day like today, uribe still cant hit. He hit on a day like yesterday.
  8. Payback for last year. Don't stop now, a 20 spot ought to make things square.
  9. Thanks for all the offers, will certainly look into them next time I ride out there. This is beautiful though. Last year it wouldn't be until the 7th or 8th that we come back, and it would still fall a run or two short. This year we fight.
  10. Bought a ticket online last night using a card, just woke up and discovered I don't have cash to pay the parking nazi and going to the bank would mean a 5th inning entrance, ticket will be unused. Six Flags takes credit for parking, why not Sox games?
  11. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 18, 2008 -> 08:26 PM) Q HALL (my ptc) OC SWISH BUEHRLE tomorrow Can't forget Anderson. Had a nice catch too. There should be no getting excited about what we've done so far to the Pirates, only hope that we can continue it tomorrow. At the same time, great teams win the games they should win. While this wasn't done against the Rocks, it's relieving to see em back on track.
  12. Agreed. I'm just as happy to see him in the lineup this year as I was frustrated to see him in the lineup last year. He's done a solid job to say the least, maybe he can start seeing even more AB's.
  13. Detroit is hella scary at this point. Thank goodness for their inability to put s*** together in the early part of the season. I wonder if Thames launched one again.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 05:55 PM) Dempster's batting average against is ridiculous this season. He has been one of the top 10 pitchers in all of baseball this season, and he's shown no signs of slowing down. If anything, his stuff is getting better. Dempster was due back on the ground about 2 weeks ago. Every time he kisses mid-high 90's on the gun and shuts a lineup down, I get a teensy bit more suspicious of him. Just kicking this around, but... -100 years since the team won, attention team is recieving is at a fever pitch even compared to ridiculous coverage it usually gets. -You're converted back to a starter from a putz of a closer. Find success/help your team finally get there and you will become a god to millions of Cubs fans. -Contract situation. Last I heard he was locked up through 2008. This is 2008. Just Saying
  15. I think he'll go in as an Indian. The bulk of, not to mention prime of his career took place in Cleveland. Nothing remarkable happened in Philly, and Chicago seems like it's his farewell tour, even if the first two seasons were great. On a side note I saw his season stats for '06 and couldn't help but imagine where we would be right now with that version of Jim Thome instead of this one. *edit* If he had a choice. Forgot about that.
  16. It's annoying to hear a Cub or Sox player pretend to get all excited about the Chicago series only to hear the same ballplayer dismiss it as nothing special (and it's a circus, and they should only have it once, etc. etc.) a day after it's over.
  17. Said concern is based on last year. Of course they will eventually turn it around, after all, they did just that roughly two weeks into September... The pitching is splendid, but it's not perfect, and has shown holes recently (against Detroit and the Rocks nonetheless). Thats why people b**** about our thumpers sucking. It's nice enough that our pitching staff has shown pretty things, it's the height of unclassy to ask them to throw shutouts and no-hitters so we could win.
  18. Clicked on Lofton but would just as well have gone with Fields if he could step into 1Bor DH on days Jimmy sits. The general opinion around here seems to be that it's impossible (Don't know why, anyone can man 1st if they can play 3rd). Lofton added something positive to the Indians last year, and him being low risk/high reward, why not? Owens would remind me too much of 2007, and everything other than Buehrle's no-hitter and Thome's walk-off 500 needs to go in a corner and die forever.
  19. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 15, 2008 -> 01:08 AM) The Contreras comparison makes it sound an awful lot like you're suggesting that Uribe will suddenly turn into something he's not. Ramirez has proven s***, true, and Uribe has. What has Uribe proven? That he sucks, and he can be counted on to barely hit .200 and run into a few big hits here and there. Not looking at any RISP stats, or any stats at all actually, I get the impression that Uribe has come up big in important situations over the years. In order to get me to feel this way, you have to, well, come up big in important situations. I'm not easily impressed. Maybe laziness or a lacksidaisical attitude can account for what we often see. What was Freddie's forte? Big Game pitcher. Did that work out for us? Well, I guess. He's not ever gonna sport a .300 average, but if everyone on your team batted .300, what would be the point of holding playoffs or a World Series? Again, not looking at stats, I think Uribe has had a .250-.260 average at years end sometime in the past. 20+ homers, and in the range of 70-80 RBI. Someone who sucks as you put it doesn't have 70-80 RBI, 20+ homers. If you disagree, then I beg of you, please explain this to me. Or maybe he just got lucky 70-80 times, and his bat tripped and fell right on the screws of a baseball thrown at him 20+ times. F***ing four leaf clovers... He's capable, light a fire named Alexei under his ass, and I think he'll be a bit more selective with what he swings at. Labeling him as a .200 hitter would be based on this year, and in that case, we're f***ed, because Nick Swisher is a .210 hitter, Paulie- .210, Thome- .200, and OCab has a solid 40 point fall from grace. Also, Floyd, Danks, Contreras and even Linebrink should have a helluva time duking it out for Cy Young, etc, etc. Not to mention, f*** Babe Ruth, they might as well name some candy after Quentin, oh wait, the law of averages seems to have caught up with him. Is it too late to cancel the statues many have dedicated in his likeness? I'll check with the Detroit Tigers of '05 to make sure... Not ripping on you, cause again, I like seeing Taz in cartoons, not White Sox games, but we've won with guys like Timo Perez, Willie Harris, Damaso Marte, and the afore mentioned Juan Uribe- who should just quit his job because he flat out sucks and he talks to his bats too... The Uribe hatred is exaggerated. The way he's made out over here would make one think that planting a tree in his stead at home plate would better suit our "offense" cause maybe once in a while it would draw a walk (only for the next batter to wipe it out with a DP) or not swing at the same pitch that fooled 100% of the rest of the lineup. Besides, I don't care if he bats .000000001. is enough to solidify him as my 9 hitter, and Valentin has nothing on it.
  20. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 09:22 PM) . Ramirez has proven he can handle 2b WAY better that Uribe. He' a better hitter and close defensively. At the plate, he offers more than Uribe. Before I say this let it be known that I love seeing Ramirez at second at the moment. You go with your hot hitters, end of discussion. That said, he's proven s***. Chris Shelton lit MLB pitchers up like a fat doob laced with premium unleaded for longer than Ramirez has hit .290 and he plays baseball in towns with population I'm tired of seeing our #3 hitter K or fly out on a regular basis, and then throw hissy fits when he's done doing so. Ditto the 4-5-6 going 0-456. Why the lack of passion over that? The attitude here toward Uribe is exactly the same as it was toward Contreras during 07 and the winter, and don't those people look f***ing foolish...
  21. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 05:49 PM) And why exactly is Ramirez on the bench. He is hitting .287 on the season. I am glad that Uribe got the hit last night but lets not get goofy Uribe cant hit .280. Alexei has been a breath of fresh air lately, and I agree one day off was enough. However, his .287 batting average has happened in the span of an average Uribe hot streak. Play em while they're hot, I agree, but Ramirez, like Quentin, still has much to prove.
