  1. QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 11:59 AM) I'll be there tonight for my first game of the year and my daughter's first game of her life. I hope she gets to see a lot of fireworks. She will, it's fireworks night.
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 13, 2008 -> 12:22 AM) I just don't get it. Do they not have scouts? They do but Coop and his magic defy scouting.
  3. Sad to see him go, he sounded happy to be back. I think down the road we could've made him useful, (especially at the motel 6 rate we were getting him at) if only for mopup duties. I've only caught one of the games he's pitched, but in the inning I think he allowed only one baserunner. Nothing jumped up and screamed CUT HIM! at me.
  4. I didn't think he'd be hitting at the rate he was hitting anyway. I hate to s*** on the pancakes, and I really hope I'm wrong, but during his streak I was half expecting him to knock a pick off attempt to first into the visiting bullpen. I was wondered the whole time when reality would catch up to him, due in part to the afore-mentioned carrying of our "offense", but also pitchers eventually figuring him out. Hopefully it is just a sore hand that can be remedied with days off in the Rocks/Pirates sets.
  5. QUOTE (north side chi sox fan @ Jun 11, 2008 -> 02:50 PM) Can someone decode this for me? http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=65424 I forgot Swisher was going too.
  6. Jon Garland is a pitcher. He could probably be put to use after we're done dealing Danks, Konerko and Thornton to the Yanks and Giants.
  7. Slam here should all but end the Twins desire to play baseball for the next few weeks.
  8. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 08:06 PM) Great article. I wonder where all the "fire Kenny Williams" people are on this forum this year?? No different than the people claiming Floyd had no talent, these people shouldn't utter another opinion as extreme as these and just shut their mouth because they have been proven wrong. Period. I wonder where all the "burn Contreras on a stake in the outfield during a seventh inning stretch" people are. Reason being I have some delightful bbq sauce that would go just right with some words. It would be a great picnic with some softball, beer, and afore-mentioned bbq sauce.
  9. QUOTE (Shadows @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 01:55 PM) Smoak I hear ya, but I'm not upset we got Beck instead. Yet.
  10. This couldn't have come as a surprise to Walk, I've heard interviews last year where he himself all but admitted he could get the axe at any point if this misery continues, right or wrong. Guillen including himself and Williams in that rant, not to mention the "hitters" makes me want to send Walk some vagisil. His was but one name in a litany of them.
  11. Good. Esteban has more potential upside than Wass at this point. Last year when the Sox were going nowhere, we could fiddle around with guys like Wass, Bukvich, Day, etc. This year, Loaiza can do what Wass was doing (mopup) and be an insurance policy/spot starter.
  12. Having not read most of this thread and being a lifelong Uribe supporter, Ramirez has my vote after the last few games. I know it's a small sample size, but to the best of my recollection he was pursued by many a team during the offseason, and this is what he was eventually expected to do. At this point in the season, whatever clicks offensively needs to stay until it stops clicking. Down with OCab! Bring on Juan for SS! No, but seriously, unless Cabrera starts producing like he's supposed to, there is no reason why Uribe and Cabrera shouldn't share the spot. While he's not batting .047 anymore, he got two of the s***tiest RBI I've seen last night. He's playing just as hit or miss as Uribe, only when Juan hits, he hits it onto the expressway. When Orlando hits, he hits it just out of the second baseman's reach. Plus, Uribe's cooler.
  13. QUOTE (watchtower41 @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 11:47 AM) ...negative rants about his own team... At this point why wouldn't he? He hasn't called out pitching, our "hitters/offense" deserve worse than what he's said.
  14. If I recall correctly Juan wasn't exactly scuffling at the time he went down.
  15. Skimming through the Trib sports section today I read a comment from Konerko to the tune of him being able to try and grind it out or he could take time off to let it heal to the point where he's comfortable. I love Paulie and all, but this is painful to watch and there's no other way to put it. Give him 2 weeks off, bring someone up, maybe Fields, and see where that takes you. A half inning with Paulie scheduled to bat at this point is a 2 out inning for the opposing pitcher/defense.
  16. /\ I think the dude is 23, he has time. Having said that, you can get in the same trouble hanging with adults.
  17. Noah and Thomas are young guys you've put a lot of stock into by selecting them as high as the Bulls did. To give up on them after such a short time would be an overreaction to say the least. Some guys come in and light the NBA on fire right away, some develop into solid players over time.
  18. A series win here s***s all over the Tribe's mindset.
  19. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 25, 2008 -> 06:45 AM) I'm still not buying this Contreras, and think this is just a mere aberration. But if we are still competing, Contreras ain't going anywhere. I think '07 was the aberration. He's given us more good than bad, and when he's good, he's damn good.
  20. The crowds boos were louder for when the doll got take away than for Torii Hunter. I'd love to have seen the players reactions if it dropped onto the field.
  21. It'll be a bad time to be a Sox fan if the Pirates manage anything against us. Even the most passive Cubs fans I know are fully aware of the fact that Pittsburgh is an awful baseball team.
  22. Good read, and it really kinda provides some nice background info on the McNamee/Clemens relationship. Based on his apparant self-centeredness, it's easy to see how he could so suddenly turn on a former friend to protect his rep. That said, steroids or not, there is no arguing that he was extremely dedicated to his craft, and he worked his ass off more in one off-season than many will in their entire lives. He reminds me of the way George W. is portrayed in "Little Bush". Some quotes I enjoyed or found interesting: "Hell, brushback pitches were accepted years ago. Today, it's a federal case. " "I didn't want his bat in my life anymore. "I'm going to find out where you live and come after you this winter.'' "Pettitte has been working out with Clemens during the off-season for two years, picking up between three and four miles per hour on his fastball during that time."
  23. The Rachel Ray Show. Can't believe Friends hasn't been mentioned yet. The crazy one wasn't too good, but 2-3 w/ 2 HR is a good line. Whatever that Las Vegas show early in the thread is, that floats my boat also.
  24. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 23, 2008 -> 09:38 PM) Can somebody explain to me the disaster that has been the Colorado Rockies' offense? Four runs is basically an explosion for them. No research, but I'm pretty sure the "make it to the world series, lose, and then suck" routine has been done before. And not that it means anything, but in my picks only the Giants ended up with a worse record in the NL West.
