  1. Sounds like a good place to start would be with what goes into these Showcases...
  2. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 03:08 PM) Like, as in 'snail mail'? That's weird! "Dear Jerry, I am taking pen to paper today to implore your consideration in the hiring of Nicholas Hostetler to be our new amateur scouting director. He comes with unparalleled qualifications and you'll just love him. My return address is on the envelope, so write me back at your earliest convenience. Yours Truly, Rick P.S. - Wish you had let Kenny go to Toronto when you had the chance!" The image I have in my head is of the letter Owen Wilson's character sent to Bill Murray's character in The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou.
  3. QUOTE (harkness @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 01:18 PM) Ventura didn't even want the job..... Yeah, that's why it's so unfortunate.
  4. I can't watch this s*** anymore. They deserve to be roundly mocked when they come home (and I'm as far away from being a proponent of booing as it gets). I hope that it's 110 and very humid for the rest of the season anywhere they play, so that it's very uncomfortable and miserable for them.
  5. I had the pleasure of being in attendance for his start against the Red Sox this year. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 4, 2016 -> 03:34 PM) ...if EJ does end up having some success there just remember that it wasn't going to happen here. Agreed. EJ might have eventually turned into something here, but I think it would have necessitated about a year of being a regular part of the rotation up with the big club- and that in turn would have to have been part of a full rebuild. Since that isn't what they're doing, I'm fine with his inclusion even if he puts it together.
  6. If yesterday isn't proof of a charmed year for the Cubs and their fans, then nothing is. Invite Craig Sager, along with family and friends, have him meet his childhood idol, Billy Williams, before the game, and throw out the first pitch to a cancer survivor, Anthony Rizzo. The starter is another cancer survivor, Jon Lester, who goes on to throw a complete game shutout apart from giving up a leadoff HR. The only other runs on the night come in the form of a two-run shot by Kris Bryant. Sager sings the seventh inning stretch, Cubs win. You couldn't have written it any better.
  7. Doubtless not the only end of career example of this at the moment.
  8. Winning a series against the other World Series participant would be a nice start to the month.
  9. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 31, 2016 -> 02:14 PM) My views exactly. I am really getting fed up with the shark frenzy that goes on her after every play not made, every hit not made, every game lost. This team in slumping and they are more upset than we are I am betting. We will turn this around and it's only May 31st and we are two games out. We could be like the Twins for crying out loud. I would agree that it's probably a bit much if it's about a missed play, hit not made, or a loss. This wasn't that though- it was a gut-punch and an absolutely joyless, hopeless stretch of baseball, especially if we're looking at it all the way back to the Texas series (or even the Boston series, if you look past the meaningless sweep of the Twins that took place in between). Everyone saw the Harvey gem coming, and that's fine- by itself- because we all know that's how the Sox roll. But take that cherry and stick it on top of what happened in KC, and it's entirely different.
  10. Not sure what to think after that weekend. I hope they get laughed the f*** out of there and wherever the hell they go afterwards. Group of bums.
  11. One of a manger's duties are to take it for the team. This isn't at all entirely on Robin, but if there ever was a time to part ways with him- this is it.
  12. This series fully warrants someone's job. It's not on him entitrely, but if ever a time for Ventura to be fired, this is it.
  13. Hoping they somehow tie this so the s***pen gets thrown to the wolves again.
  14. Closest I've ever come to questioning my fandom. I'm in Denver and forgot to track the game. Checked the mlb site on my phone and a wave of sadness and disgust washed over me. For this to happen so soon after the Texas game...
  15. QUOTE (chisox802 @ May 26, 2016 -> 04:57 PM) I am already calling this will be the start where Harvey turns it around......... Not a hard prediction to make, but this is where he gets going. That was the very first thought that came to mind the moment I heard the report about him making his start and who he's facing. The White Sox are like a travelling Coop Will Fix 'Em clinic for struggling opposing pitchers.
  16. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ May 26, 2016 -> 02:31 PM) Moustakas out for the season with a torn ACL. Happened on the play where he & Gordon collided. Curious to see how much of an impact that one play has within the coming weeks & their season as a whole. Wow. All of this destruction on a popup foul that wasn't even caught.
  17. QUOTE (The Mighty Mite @ May 25, 2016 -> 04:31 PM) Anybody but Ozzie, he's a disgusting clown. You saw how long he lasted in Miami. Ozzie isn't the answer, but managerial longevity in Miami is an oxymoron, and isn't really indicative of anything other than that Loria is a meddlesome clown.
  18. Hm. Turned two (should have been three) Triple Plays...?
  19. Uh oh. He went right to the clubhouse. Something is going to die in there.
  20. I'd rather re-read a week old sports section than something written by that group of assclowns.
  21. It would also be nice to stop the streak of series losses by winning tonight to guarantee a split. It's at 4 now, and would have been at 6 if not for a sweep of the Twins after the Red Sox series. That's a miserable, miserable stretch of baseball.
