  1. If you happen to have a grandfathered unlimited data plan from Verizon, you can add $20 to your monthly bill beginning mid-November. I also have a hard time believing that they don't already throttle unlimited plans that have 4G.
  2. Unsurprisingly, there was another school shooting at Northern Arizona University, but it was of the more traditional "personal dispute between 2 or more individuals" variety.
  3. QUOTE (bjm676 @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 02:38 PM) That Eddie Vedder song isn't any better. If you haven't heard it yet, you are lucky. Oh, I have. Pearl Jam ranks highly in my music world, so that's just dandy. IIRC, they busted that gem out when they played Wrigley and brought Ernie Banks on stage.
  4. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 11:25 AM) Earlier, "Go Cubs Go" was blasting at an extremely high volume 5 feet from me. On a loop. For 25 minutes. So that was nice. Go Cubs Go is the song you would write if you were locked in a room for a year and forced to listen to Jimmy Buffett while watching Cub games.
  5. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 08:23 AM) The division series aren't 7 games. 6 isn't possible. Duh. I'll adjust. Royals over Astros in 5 Blue Jays over Rangers in 4 Blue Jays over Royals in 6 Cubs over Cardinals in 4 Dodgers over Mets in 6 Cubs over Dodgers in 4 Cubs over Blue Jays in 6
  6. Royals over Astros in 5 Blue Jays over Rangers in 4 Blue Jays over Royals in 6 Cubs over Cardinals in 6 Dodgers over Mets in 6 Cubs over Dodgers in 4 Cubs over Blue Jays in 6
  7. QUOTE (Douglas Rome @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 03:43 PM) Casey Stengel would have his players run up and down in front of the dugout with sparklers. Has anyone noticed how much quieter the fireworks at Sox games are now compared to 3 or 4 years ago?
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 09:44 AM) The Blackhawks aren't going to have their own network, and JR and Rocky are attached at the hip. OP mentioned it. It wouldn't last a week even if they found some way to win 5 Stanley Cups a year, and it wouldn't have anything to do with JR and Rocky being attached at the hip.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 10:24 PM) Didn't he do some games on radio a few years back? I can't see it being him. He did, and a handful this year as well filling in for Ed Farmer.
  10. Tigers are in the top 5 despite a 17% drop in ratings. They're in Detroit, had a worse record than the Sox and were a slowly developing catastrophe for the better part of the season. There was also a significant roster sell-off at the deadline. I don't think the Sox ratings and attendance can be blamed solely on the product they field. As terribly as the off-season acquisitions ended up working out for them, they still generated excitement coming in to the year. In 2012 they were in 1st for a better portion of the year, yet they pulled their lowest attendance since 2004. I know tv ratings were up for that year (I can't find the numbers, but I think they were at 1.6), but they weren't setting the world on fire. QUOTE (captain54 @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 07:47 PM) You'd have to wonder if Wirtz, as well, would consider a separate Hawk network. The mere thought of the Blackhawks having their own network...

  12. Just head on the Score that CC Sabathia is going to rehab (alcohol) and will miss the playoffs.
  13. It was obvious all throughout this season (based on the numerous fill-ins) that he'd be taking on a reduced workload going forward, but doing road over home is surprising.
  14. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 3, 2015 -> 07:14 PM) Wow. Awesome career. Was he not expected to be on the Jays playoff roster? That's surprising to me but maybe I haven't been paying close enough attention. That's what it sounds like. Here's this from the Blue Jays website: This sucks, would have been awesome to see him pitch during the postseason- I adopted the Jays as my playoff team partly mainly because of that, but if not, what an incredible career.
  15. QUOTE (Scott Merkin's tweet @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 11:53 AM) Heard the White Sox are looking for a Latin American coach but also looking for a bench coach potentially with prior managerial experience It'll be like a scaled-down version of the power structure in the FO with the GMs. The one positive in this is that while it pretty much means Robin is back, they recognize that he's not really getting the job done. Best case scenario, this is a last straw kind of move. I mentioned Jose Valentin in another thread- he would even meet the "former Sox" criteria that doesn't officially exist but pretty much does.
  16. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 06:26 AM) Interesting note about Parent likely being replaced with a Spanish speaking bench coach. Anyone got any ideas on who could fill that role? Would love to add a guy with previous manager experience to help Robin with the in-game stuff. They should pry Jose Valentin and his mustache from San Diego where they coach first base.
  17. Isn't it against the rules to have a Kansas City Special against Kansas City?
  18. YES! This was at the top of my list of concerns going into the offseason ever since the station change rumors began. Since the on-field product is hopeless, at least listening to someone describe the color of that particular day's s*** on the field will be a good time. Very relieved.
  19. Typically, these kinds of obscure records don't really do anything for me, but the fact that it was a record held by Alroid rather than someone legitimate makes it that much more glorious for me.
  20. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 11:45 AM) So I saw something indicating closer to 1-2 weeks (that is what they mentioned on ESPN). Has that been confirmed? Or more to come out later today after the surgery? Maybe if they were talking about Pluto weeks.
  21. Didn't see Olt's misplay, but who would have thought that Shamulangajah would follow up a potential inning-ending misplay with back to back HR... Entirely unforeseen.
  22. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 28, 2015 -> 02:57 PM) Losing 2-1 is not a lot of fun. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 28, 2015 -> 02:59 PM) Losing 9-4 wouldn't be fun either. Over the years, I've somehow come to develop this deep rooted sense that free agent bats come here to die. It's probably somewhere in between, but I think I'm done with the days of getting excited that a bat has been acquired. Ideally, any bat they do acquire would be one that some other organization- preferably one that doesn't teach their hitters how to play soccer (or more specifically, not hitting baseballs) in the minors like the Sox do- has let develop and were ready to pluck for themselves. I don't know that I trust these guys to find someone like that, and I'd hate to see them miss like that at the expense of Quintana.
  23. Why does it feel like the Cardinals suck at injuries? It seems like at least two significant injuries a season find their way onto that roster (one to the rotation). That was brutal to watch.
  24. I get that some athletes need to have the underdog/under-appreciated mindset, but this guy has been a frigging court-side chinaware display case for a few seasons now- yet anytime he opens his mouth there is a good chance you're about to hear (in some form) about some perceived slight/imagined grievance (of which the perpetrator is faceless). He tries to be cryptic or indirect about it, but fails, because it's one of the only things he ever talks about. Greg Oden had awful luck too, and he similarly had huge expectations, albeit out of college- did he spend 1/100th of the time Rose does crying about his numerous insecurities to the media anytime his mouth opened?
