NCAA basketball 2014-15 thread
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to southsider2k5's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
How could incompetence like this be allowed to exist in the crown jewel event of an incredibly powerful and wealthy organization like the NCAA? Incredible. -
Cain accuses Shark of intentional plunking
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Vance Law @ Apr 6, 2015 -> 10:26 PM) He was going inside, and he did hit him (Alex Gordon earlier in the game hit himself), but if Shark is putting Cain on base for no reason when he's down 4 runs then Ventura and Cooper will need to teach him baseball. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 5, 2015 -> 08:04 PM) None until Friday for JAVY Baez and Bryant. It's all because they are too cheap for Chris Bryant and the new jet stream polar vortex caused by the video board. -

My favorite Opening Day was 2006. Would be nice to attend something similar next year. -
Germanwings (Lufthansa) plane crashes into Alps
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to LittleHurt05's topic in The Filibuster
Better to have a depressed pilot/aircrew that is dealing with or has successfully dealt with the issue than a pilot/aircrew keeping it to themselves because it could mean their career otherwise. -
Germanwings (Lufthansa) plane crashes into Alps
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to LittleHurt05's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 01:44 PM) Here's where I think this sort of thing leads... we already, right now, have the technology to fly these planes remotely. Takeoff to landing. I think we'll soon see the day when that becomes the norm - planes flown from the ground - with just one pilot on the plane as the emergency backup plan (as opposed to now, with two pilots, one as backup). Hooray for more automation. I know this is inevitable (and we're well on our way already), not only for aviation, but for damn near everything else- and it's very sad. -

Germanwings (Lufthansa) plane crashes into Alps
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to LittleHurt05's topic in The Filibuster
^ Yeah, no overriding a dead bolt... I think the people had to have known something wasn't right- they had only just reached their cruising altitude, before beginning a continuous descent in a mountainous region. This isn't the first time that the post-9/11 reinforced cockpit door was used against the plane itself. LAM Flight 470 is known to have been just that, Malaysian 370 likely but not confirmed. -

Great news, and a nice way to end an already excellent offseason. Edit: Unless Samardzija would like to get an extension out of the way as well... -
Blue Jays prospect, who lives out of his van

Awesome, thanks for posting this. I've done the whole driving somewhere without the Interstate or GPS before. Ended up in Wisconsin nowhere near where I was shooting for, but it was fun. -

No More Hard Tickets for Season Ticket Holders
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm not thrilled that hard tickets aren't default, with an option to save a few bucks if you decide to go the e-ticket route, but I can tolerate it. This just seems like the first step in phasing them out entirely. It cheapens the idea of holding tickets IMO. Should they ever do away them entirely, I could see it being a deal-breaker. I've got my Buehrle No-Hitter ticket framed with the Commemorative Print they mailed out afterwards- wouldn't be the same with a piece of paper you print at home, has all kinds of non-related noise (ads) taking up half of it, and usually ends up looking like a rag by the time the game is over. That said, I like reading the paper at breakfast, and I think e-books really take away from the experience of reading a novel. Most people probably don't care about those things, so I expect that to disappear before long as well. Also, I'm not 90 years old. -
