Swingandalongonetoleft replied to Boopa1219's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Bah. Oh well, at least there is no question that they think they will be competing next year. That's never a bad thing. -
MLB umpire comes out of the closet

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 2, 2014 -> 12:24 PM) Why do you think it's good society treats umpires like irrelevant human beings? They have feelings too. (Do they?) QuesTec thinks not. -

QUOTE (oneofthemikes @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 08:16 PM) ... I know this is all a bunch of moron Red Sox fans* hoping that Rick Hahn White Sox fans will see one of their tweets and decide it's a good idea make a thread about it on Soxtalk. *Moron Red Sox fans is all sorts of redundant.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Nov 30, 2014 -> 01:49 AM) What was it that made 2007 magical to you? It's impossible to choose between Jerry Owens and Andy Gonzalez.
-
My personal favorite is a Buehrle No Hitter commemorative print at the end of that magical 2007 season. I plan on framing it along with my ticket stub from that game when I get a place with more wall space.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 05:14 AM) QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 12:19 AM) Bogaerts Betts Owens Swihart De La Rosa Eduardo Rodriguez You forgot Cecchini, Ranuado, and Fenway Park. I would let them keep Fenway Park if they agreed to DFA David Ortiz in the middle of his first AB of their (presumably) nationally televised home opener. Outright him to Pawtucket if possible. Also, no more Sweet Caroline, ever.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 01:15 AM) If they had to, then, call off school on Tuesday in advance of a 9 a.m. decision. They did, I think. The schools in that district already had Wednesday-Friday off for Thanksgiving, and Tuesday was added shortly after it was announced that the Grand Jury decision would be revealed later that evening.

Out of curiosity, how are the Yankees doing with A-Rod for 2015 and beyond? I'd imagine that his own mother, much less the Yankees don't want anything to do with him after all that has transpired, and he's owed at least $20M a year through 2017. Assuming he waives his NTC, if a team seeking a terrific clubhouse presence that is also willing to take a chance on his bat were to materialize, is that something the Yankees would be willing to go for (even if it meant gobbling hilarious amounts of money)?

ESPN Suspends Keith Law from Twitter

QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 09:14 PM) Saw this earlier. Makes no sense. Wonder if Schilling complained to management. Awful and unlikable talents. It's almost the Fox News of sports. I only watch when games are on. Same. I've actively and happily avoided espn programming almost to the extent that I avoid dog s*** when I'm walking in a field or reality tv. It's bad. Luckily (except for when Kevin Millar's show is on), I get MLB Network. -
The Winter/Spring Weather Complaint Thread
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to knightni's topic in SLaM
The skin on my hands feels so dry that I'm scared to even look at them. I wish I had a bucket of moisturizer here so that I could completely submerge them for like an hour. This is me obliging the "complain about winter weather anytime in late fall through the end of winter" requirement for the day. -
white sox heavily in the left handed relief market
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
That's surprising. I guess it just feels and sounds worse than it is. There was a period of time this past season where it felt like it was a daily occurrence. -

Andrew Miller signs with Yankees
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Diamond Club
Throwing $lol + ∞years at relief pitching via free agency is a terrifying way to build a team. I think I prefer the "throw enough s*** at a wall and some is bound to stick" method. -
QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 3, 2014 -> 06:10 AM) Only getting 74% from early reviews on RT. Would like to see that percentage go up after the majority of reviews come out on Tues and Wed. It met and/or exceeded my inflated expectations for it. Mostly exceeded.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 28, 2014 -> 08:41 PM) We got another clip tonight during Agents of Shield, they gave us the "lifting the hammer" scene that was shown at comic-con. Probably on the youtubes but with this one go find it yourself Might that have something to do with I'm more excited for Interstellar than I was for Bears Super Bowl XLI. Can't believe it's here this week already.

Nice. Way to take care of your guy Renteria. Hopefully, he was aware of and agreed to accept the possibility of this happening before signing on for the job in the first place.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 08:06 AM) Cheap Trick I don't have anything against Cheap Trick, but I've probably seen them 5 or 6 times at this point purely by way of them happening to be an opener for the band that I'm there to see. I just about sat down when Eddie Vedder announced that "an Illinois legend" would be joining them for a song this past Monday at Milwaukee and it ended up being Rick Nielsen. It was an , and it kick-started a show that started off a bit slow, but I'm starting to worry that Cheap Trick is going to pop out of my radio while I'm driving one of these days.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 11:08 AM) He is obviously going to LA. God that franchise is going to be scary. That's the first thought that comes to mind when you think about, but there have been managerial hires that looked just as slam dunk as Maddon & the Dodgers do on the surface that ended up quietly underwhelming.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Oct 22, 2014 -> 09:10 AM) Pearl Jam played No Code Friday and Yield Monday in their entirety during their concerts. Not a big No Code fan but love Yield would have been cool to see. I went to Milwaukee, but I had Moline slip right through my fingers at checkout (ticketmaster). It was very painful for me to see what I missed on setlist.fm afterwards. No Code and Yield are my favorite of their catalog, so I'm glad to have been present for at least one of them.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 08:19 PM) Not sure who is worse with Buck, Reynolds or McCarver? It could be worse. I was cautiously enjoying the opportunity to watch the playoffs this year without any interference from the human hot air balloon that doubles as Boston's DH. That tranquility lasted until yesterday, when I turned the game on only to see Nick Swisher sitting on one side of Frank Thomas, and a frigging RE/MAX commercial floating on the other. -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 17, 2014 -> 09:07 AM) LAST BREATH When a coal miner’s lungs finally gave out, his autopsy proved a top doctor was wrong — giving hope to thousands of other miners. The story of Steve Day and his final vindication. It's hard to think of a group worse than coal mine owners. That was an excellent, but unfortunate read. I used to wonder how people like Dr. Paul Wheeler manage to sleep at night, but I stopped, because s***bags like him are such a common occurrence that there aren't enough seconds in eternity to waste if you wanted to worry about them. Employers and Insurance companies that will go to remarkable lengths to deny people like the subject of this article are also top-shelf scum.
