  1. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 17, 2014 -> 07:08 AM) How well does the "we should just shut Sale down in May" and "Give him Tommy John Now" crowd look right now? There was a crowd like that?
  2. I guess this should have been anticipated, but people who are making ruckus about being "torn" as to whether or not they should play Peterson on their fantasy team- this is the absolute height of asshattery. It's fantasy f***ing football, not a morality pulpit.
  3. It usually takes a while for me to warm up to football at the start of a season. This was a great icebreaker. I eagerly await the day that Cutler bashers keep their hate to themselves. I don't say that purely because of tonight's game, I just think a lot of it is over the top.
  4. Regarding the name change, I thought it was a given that there would be a renaming when I first heard US Cellular was leaving the market, but I recall reading something around that time saying the name would stay because it would still be relevant via televised games.
  5. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 12, 2014 -> 02:11 PM) Well that's a pretty piss poor attitude to have towards drinknig for yourself. Do something fun instead! -Sit in lawn and drink in silence. When people speak to you, do not speak back. Just stare at them. -Alternatively, you can tell them to get the f*** off your lawn. - But only if they're not on your lawn to begin with.
  6. With the weather the past couple of days, this, combined with an early game yesterday and NFL in the evening, it really does feel like fall.
  7. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Sep 11, 2014 -> 02:33 PM) IIRC he hit #400 in KC and some redneck dove into the pond for it. Adam Dunn is a proponent of personal hygiene.
  8. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 11, 2014 -> 10:23 AM) Oh please. We're not going to throw a game to attempt to get a former player into the playoffs. I hope this is a sarcastic post; he's Adam Dunn, not God. No, he's God
  9. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Sep 11, 2009 -> 09:44 PM) Ya know Jesus Etc. by Wilco was written pre-9/11. I've never considered any parallel between that song and 9/11. I see Yankee Hotel Foxtrot was released in 2001, and a quick googling shows me that the album was originally set for a 9/11/01 release, but the tall buildings shake/skyscrapers are scraping together lines are pretty generic. I didn't pick this album, or Wilco up until long after 2001, though, so there is that.
  10. EA Sports going to remove him from their games. I think the way everyone is stumbling over each other to point their finger is as pathetic as the initial 2 game suspension that was "adequate" until some visuals were added into the mix.
  11. I can't imagine this not being appealed by Rice/Player's Union before too long.
  12. QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Sep 8, 2014 -> 09:10 AM) <!--quoteo(post=3050479:date=Sep 5, 2014 -> 10:04 PM:name=fathom)-->QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 5, 2014 -> 10:04 PM) <!--quotec-->Peavy just went nearly 3 hours between pitches due to a rain delay For what it is, it's not even bad.
  13. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Aug 30, 2014 -> 12:43 AM) ...the team must rebuild the bullpen. Rebuild is a nice way of saying it.
  14. I was a big proponent of the Adam Dunn signing. Overall, his time here was underwhelming, largely exacerbated by his 2011 season. It put a bad taste in the mouths of a large portion of the fanbase, so while strikeouts and all the good stuff that comes with a player like Dunn were expected, I think they were harder to tolerate for many because of that season's stink. If you're drinking all night at a party, it's expected that you're going to end up sloshed towards the end of the festivities and likely wake up hungover. If you're drinking all night at a party and you also happen to be on prescription medication, you're going to end up sloshed a lot earlier and likely wake up in much worse shape. Dunn '11 is the prescription medication. That said, this guy wasn't too far off. QUOTE (DOWNTOWN PANTHER @ Jan 7, 2011 -> 07:18 AM) The former Texas Longhorn QB recruit may have a big name, but has hit more meaningless roundtrippers than anyone in the game. As a Cincinnati Reds fan I can tell you that the Reds were drastically better without him. He can hit the long ball, but strikes out a ton. There is a reason he has floated from team to team since leaving Cincinnati. Unless they do a movie about Will Farrells life, Adam Dunn will be best known as the most overrated power hitter of this baseball generation. Thats just my opinion. Without hindsight, I'd still want the Sox to go after him when he hit free agency following the 2010 season.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 23, 2014 -> 01:13 PM) Any chance like the last great Planet of Apes movie? Dude!
  16. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 24, 2014 -> 09:05 PM) Watching the VMA's, when did these ugly women with fat asses become so popular? Nicki Minaj? Iggy Azalea? Yuck. I couldn't tell you who either one of those are or how they look, and I'm absolutely basking in my obliviousness. Not even going to google it.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 07:25 AM) Even Gillaspie. He's had a nice year. Has definitely earned his position, but moving forward, is anyone really sure what he is? Let's keep Conar Gillaspie, please. Even if his salary is due for a bump (not sure if it is), it couldn't possibly be significant for the FO to decide against even if he were to fall flat on his face. Edit: Arb Eligible '16
  18. Finally got around to seeing Guardians of the Galaxy. It's definitely right there at the top Marvel movie-wise. Urgently need to go see the new Sin City, because I've been ready for multiple sequels since about 7 seconds into Jessica Alba's Kadie's Bar scene from the first one (and I thought it was a great movie in general). I've not heard anything about it yet, and I'm a bit worried that Guardians of the Galaxy will steal it's thunder if I see it too soon. Probably next Friday...
  19. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 24, 2014 -> 05:58 PM) Eminor nominates Chipper Jones to be our manager! Not enough forests to burn down.
  20. Sad that it never worked out. As nice as a good 2014 would be, the only thing it would affect is whether or not the Sox got a living, breathing, human being that plays baseball in exchange for him at the deadline, or a high-five and some cash from someone going into September. Best of luck to Beckham.
  21. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 10:39 AM) Given that cops are being shot at down there (with real bullets), it would seem reasonable to be pissed that media members aren't turning off gigantic flood lights in the area. I'm not sure that threatening to shoot someone because you're pissed that they're there and they have a camera is a reasonable response. It didn't go over well with anyone when Separatists sang that song to media and investigators trying to get to the MH17 crash site, and I don't even think they went as far as actually saying it- rather, just hinting at it by being armed to the teeth like a bunch of Russki Ted Nugents .
  22. QUOTE (MEANS @ Aug 14, 2014 -> 02:08 PM) Seriously, he said nothing wrong. ✓ QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 14, 2014 -> 02:12 PM) For what it's worth, the author is being universally trashed in the comments section. Deservedly so. I think there are things that Hawk says that are annoying, but people who dissect every word he says with the intent of trashing him are twice as annoying.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 14, 2014 -> 08:49 AM) As far as DJ goes, maybe he has a deal like Stone since he's from California that he can take time off when the team's on the road once in the first half and once in the second half of the season? I had both of the SF games on (radio call) as background noise, but I think I remember them talking about going to (or from) the ballpark during Tuesday's game, and I think DJ said something about meeting up with Bochy before the game during Wednesday's call, so I assume he was there.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 13, 2014 -> 04:08 PM) It is an actual active crew that looks at replays. I think they should hire few more minor league umpires and have at least one watching each game. If they did that by the time they walked over to put on a head set they should have their answer. I think the process is similar to how Family Guy episodes were concocted on South Park.
