Rongey gives Conor some love
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Aug 11, 2014 -> 12:53 PM) Generally whenever i go online to see 'giving love', it is behind a paywall + -
is a switch hitter and he only gave up 2 runs earlier in the year, albeit as a RHP... Can he throw lefty? Even if he can't, I'd like to see them make him try.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 10, 2014 -> 12:28 PM) What's next, we will bring back Juan Uribe and Neal Cotts? Juan Uribe will rule the world after the Sox bring him back.

I'll be glad to see him get more ABs from here on out. For one reason or another I haven't been able to make it to the park for too many games this year, so I'd like to make up for lost time, and now that the objective of the remainder of 2014 is very clearly draft position, it works out beautifully. Even if he goes 4-4 with 3 HR every night, I have no doubt that the bulldairycowpen knows it's role by now and won't fail those in the front office tasked with preparing for a draft.

Guess who just hit a go-ahead hr in the 12th for his first major league hit.

GAME THREAD 7/30: SOX @ DET

I believe Cabrara-esque is what DJ was trying to say there (for those listening to the radio call). -

I'm glad that this is a team that I still look forward to watching at the end of July. -

QUOTE (1dog @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 07:33 PM) Can I get a Cliffs Notes? I can only watch on MLB.TV....which is why I'm always behind on the cheering. Lol It's literally him just reading off a teleprompter with the Chicago Skyline as a backdrop. -

I love this Frank Thomas lawyer commercial. -
I have always under valued Quintana.

I remember a time, many years ago, when the word value wasn't used in what seems like every other sentence in a conversation about baseball- be it on radio or message boards. -

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 07:34 AM) Wise I was referencing the President's comments about Perfect Game, though I can't find the audio right this minute, Wise sounded more like Weiss. -
The Curious Case of Mark Buehrle

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 17, 2014 -> 03:47 PM) I had long felt that this was a key component of his underrated-by-advanced-metrics-ness, and I'm not sure that it's total effects are fully measured at this point. For instance: The article mentions that no one has even attempted a SB against Mark this year. But it's not just about the SB's and the pickoffs. It stands to reason that a baserunner on 1B is physically closer to the bag and/or leaning toward it in fear of the pickoff move. This means that they are a bit less likely to advance to 3rd on a single and a bit less likely to score on a double, I would think, and I don't believe these effects are currently part of the equation. I could be wrong, or the effects could be so tiny as to lack significance, but it's something I've wondered about. His pickoff of Sammy Sosa shortly after he walked to become the only Texas baserunner of the night during his no-hitter is a big reason I might prefer that game to the Perfecto. Replace the Outfielder Weiss' catch in the Perfect Game with a standard ground out or K and it wouldn't even be close. -
295 dead aboard Malaysian Airlines shot down over Ukraine.

QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 17, 2014 -> 03:25 PM) Malaysian jet -- not European, not a major power, so the international response will be tempered. Are there Americans on every plane everywhere? How many Americans are abroad at any one time? No matter what happens, anywhere in the world, there are Americans there. It was a KLM codeshare flight, though. Based on that, and the large percentage of Dutch pax on board, it may as well have been a European airline. -

Unfortunate coincidence that it's 18 years to the day that TWA 800 went down with 230 people. -
Favorite Dylan Axelrod moment

I always thought of Guns 'N Roses' cover of Knockin' on Heavens Door, and that Dylan Axelrod is a pretty cool name to have. -

Absolutely incredible that anyone/anything other than birds still uses that airspace. An Il-76 was shot down about a month ago, and an AN-26 was shot down the other day. -
Ozzie wants back in Sox family

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 15, 2014 -> 05:32 PM) QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 15, 2014 -> 05:14 PM) I think he has learned from his mistakes. He will still say stupid things, but i really think he has been humbled. Now that is funny. Some people need to get burned more than once before they realize that the stove is hot. I can imagine that as he was leaving Chicago towards the end of 2011 his ego was so peaking; for some reason (KW) he felt under-appreciated in Chicago, so naturally, the fact that another team wanted him enough to trade for him and subsequently throw money and years at him vindicated those feelings. When that same team wanted him out (enough to eat the rest of his deal) just one season later, that's a pie in the face. I don't think that it's a stretch to say that he took a long look in the mirror and concluded that maybe he should have done things differently. I'd be happy to have him back in the organization. -
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 15, 2014 -> 07:28 AM) This was the only exciting thing that happened last night. I took the tv off mute for the replay/rest of Stanton's AB when that happened. Stopped watching shortly afterwards though. Psyched for someone to throw BP to Jetes so he can launch one like the prolific hr hitter he is. Wonder who that duty will fall to.

lololololooll @ Dwayne Wade I'm glad LeBron chose to comeback to Cleveland, but let's not herald him as "matured". A houseplant could have learned from the abortion of a spectacle that "The Decision" was. D-Wade     :l -
Cardinals sign AJ Pierzynski

For the record, I don't think the Sox finding themselves in contention for a Wild Card berth is unrealistic at all. Stupider things happen all the time in baseball.
