^ Yeah, what I should have written was headphones that don't come in the box with the iPod. Even in that price range ($150-$300), its a bit like tuning a minivan.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Mar 14, 2014 -> 12:41 PM) Any hear anything about Neil Young's new device called PONO? Apparently its like an MP3 player but with much higher sound quality. Website Pitchfork Article I read about this yesterday. I'm not an audiophile, but I always found it kind of curious that people would throw money at high end headphones which they then use with their iPod. I know Apple has a lossless format, but how many people walking around with Beats headphones know or care? My guess is not many. I'm interested to see how this does.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 10:52 AM) According to fangraphs, the Sox have the worst catching situation in baseball. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2014-positi...nkings-catcher/ Didn't need fangraphs to tell me. This would be an upgrade.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 11:55 AM) That is why I said or part of Russia... implying that if part of Russia says it wants to be independent and has a vote, would Putin recognize it? After it became evident that this was going to end with Crimea belonging to Russia, I began thinking what great theater it would be if suddenly a pack of Ukrainians living within Russia's borders decided to pull a similar stunt of their own. I get the feeling that Putin would quickly drop this passive "only looking out for the best interests of Russians within another country's borders" act. If that happened, though, things would probably get real in a hurry.

QUOTE (Jake @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 08:29 AM) Going on about umps on a day-by-day basis is more tiresome and he doesn't do that anymore. He'll have even less time for that this year as according to Stone, they'll make an effort to talk about them there sabermathrics and other black magic/number voodoo. Although I suppose he can come up with his own metric to quantify umpire sucktitude.

Earlier today I wanted to check something about the Big Bang Theory, and when I searched on Wikipedia, it took me to the Big Bang Theory tv show page. I wept.

Jose Abreu, Ryan Braun or Albert Pujols?
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to peppers312's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think Braun having a power outage after getting caught would be just as bad as the actual getting caught part- a double whammy. It still feels to me like a lot of people are chalking Pujols decline to age/injury instead of what is probably the actual reason- maybe another season of being unimpressive gets more people talking. Abreu is new to the MLB and is my favorite team's big offseason acquisition; naturally I'll be more guarded in my optimism when it comes to his HR total. Braun, followed by Pujols at or around 30. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 3, 2014 -> 05:03 PM) So if Gordon Beckham sucks so badly, why are the Dodgers and Yankees apparently interested in the guy? Speak. There are much worse things than Beckham that can happen to 2B for the White Sox.

Listening Along to the Radio/TV Broadcast at the Cell
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to Whitey's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I just try finding an unoccupied seat that has a good vantage point of the broadcast booth and read lips. IIRC, though, the broadcast playing on concourses/ramps and in gift shops/bathrooms doesn't lag- certainly not 15-20 seconds at least. -
So thankful for this. Work has been absolutely unbearable for about the past 2 months. I think this year the Sox will exceed expectations. Usually it's the other way around.

^ I called non-emergency. I would have happily taken it to someone else if the receptionist who answered had directed me elsewhere instead of telling me they'd take care of it. I know I've heard before on more than one occasion that something like this is precisely what the non-emergency line is for. This isn't something I'd usually do; normally I'd probably just warn someone if I knew they would be driving that way similarly to how I'd warn someone if there is a speed trap. It looked like it could do some good damage if someone happened to catch it- no one wants that...

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 25, 2014 -> 11:20 AM) Regarded by whom? They only really fly consistently to their hubs and they arent anywhere near here. I should have clarified that I meant of the big 3. In general, I don't hear anywhere near as much lamenting and gnashing of teeth about Delta as I do United or American. Chicago isn't a hub, but there are plenty of flights in and out of here. It wasn't so much based on any statistics or anything, but when I googled, I found: http://www.jdpower.com/content/press-relea...ction-study.htm http://www.theacsi.org/?option=com_content...&i=Airlines FWIW, ranking highest of the big 3 is like being the tallest midget- Carriers like Alaska Airlines/JetBlue/Hawaiian are always going to rank higher, but those carriers have a different model than the big ones.
-
A little surprised to see Delta mentioned as a least favorite- they seem to be the best regarded overall in terms of US Carriers. I don't really have any bad experiences, but I don't fly too often. United/Delta/Southwest are probably the ones I would go for first. The best way to save yourself some misery is to make sure you're not booking a flight on a Regional Jet (eg United 3653 operated by GOJET AIRLINES DBA UNITED EXPRESS). There's no doubt, though, that US Carriers are brutal when compared to many international carriers.

Saw a pretty big piece of debris on the road (North Ave) on my way to work today. Called the PD to report it and was told they'd take care of it. 2 hours later, still there. Guess they're too busy keeping the roads safe via speed traps. It's completely understandable, though- a chunk of metal probably wouldn't be able to fund the Chargers they roll around in out here.

John Danks is the 7th worst contract in baseball
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 12, 2014 -> 02:13 PM) The thing is, if he pitches anywhere close to pre-injury John Danks, that deal is a steal. In other words, "bad contracts" realistically can't be avoided. -
