  1. Unbelievable how MLB hasn't yet turned to someone standing by to shorten fair/foul reviews. You don't even need them present at the park; 1-3 guys per night somewhere in MLB offices would be more than sufficient. They would still end up sitting there twiddling their thumbs for the overwhelming majority of the time.
  2. QUOTE (scs787 @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 01:47 PM) I certainly wouldn't hate a Dunn/Konerko platoon, it makes a lot of sense. I think Konerko is perfectly capable of hitting MLB pitching through at least the end of the 2014 season. Assuming Dunn doesn't get moved, Konerko would be a great signing for the right amount of money. That's a nice bat to have as insurance in case Dunn falls into one of his patented "doesn't belong anywhere near the game of baseball" stretches over the course of the season. Omar Vizquel was signed for a similar role and ended up being a nice antidote for the Mark Teahen signing in 2010.
  3. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 09:42 AM) Alaska? The Island? Mountain I never knew Cuba had mountains, though. The more you know...
  4. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 16, 2013 -> 09:14 AM) Anyone check out the new Pearl Jam? Just got it last night so I haven't had much time to listen to it, but the early releases sounded good, and it's getting good early reviews too It's getting great reviews- almost surprisingly. I avoided checking out any of the pre-release streams of the album, they played 3 of the songs at Wrigley over the summer, but that's the only time I heard anything until it was waiting on my doorstep. I think it's not bad. Once my copy has a few more spins on it I think I'll probably like it more than Backspacer- but I'm having a hard time seeing myself compare it to Vitalogy like I've seen some reviewers do; not sure what copy of Lightning Bolt they were listening to, but it wasn't the one I got...
  5. White Sox conference call with Rick Hahn and Ken Hawk; first fan question to Hahn:
  6. I think run support is a nice place to start when considering questionable W/L records.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 08:47 AM) Frankly, if you win the LDS or the play in game, go out and get drunk with your teammates or something. The champagne celebration is too much for those. https://www.aldi.us/en/grocery-items/wine-b...parkling-wines/
  8. Closer being brought in to do something other than to secure the last 3 outs needed to win = sucks
  9. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 11, 2013 -> 08:06 AM) Umm... Ok Every new day you hear or read about idiots outdoing the previous day's idiots- and with remarkable ease. Things that once not too long ago would have been considered unacceptable quietly continue to become the acceptable way of life. It has everything to do with society catering to the weakest link. That Kentucky is stopping handshakes after HS games is not going to stop the world from turning by itself, but it's just another in a long, long line of disturbing absurdities. I'm 26- I can only imagine how some people twice my age feel.
  10. Classy Kentuckians keep getting classier. I think a large asteroid hurtling though space would be doing everyone and everything an enormous favor if it hit this planet head on. It's so long overdue.
  11. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 04:37 AM) His comments are 100% correct despite what some Sox fans tend to think. Basic fact of life. Realistically, I think that the only way this changes would be if something in Tom Ricketts' life suddenly and profoundly turns him into a self-destructive wild man, and he moved the Cubs to Rosemont or anywhere else that isn't Wrigley Field. Even then, I think the 3 siblings he shares ownership of the team with would put a stop to that right quick. Or if he hired Ozzie Guillen to manage the Cubs.
  12. Whelp, it was fun while it lasted. Going forward, it would be nice to see Pittsburgh make semi-regular playoff appearances instead of reprising their role in the War of Suck opposite the Cubs, battling for last place in the NL Central.
  13. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 8, 2013 -> 07:32 PM) Any reason they took out Hellickson other than he's not good? It looks as if he's going for the bullpen game that you typically see when a starter is scratched or leaves early due to injury and/or getting shelled. Not sure I'd be too opposed if I were a Rays fan.
  14. I hate having to cheer against Peavy. Joe Maddon getting a little trigger-happy... Curious to see if it works out for them.
  15. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Oct 7, 2013 -> 08:22 PM) This is the dance the A's fans do when Balfour comes in. Fans singing in unison and dancing when an athlete is announced and enters the game... If I were an A's fan attending a game and that happened, I would renounce my fandom. I would most likely get shiv'd, because that seems to be the thing to do at baseball games in California, but it would be a matter of principle. I abhore the late '80s/early '90s cheese of Major League. It belongs inside the VHS player gathering dust in your basement and nowhere else.
  16. Booing the pick-off attempt probably ranks highly when it comes to stupid things people do at baseball games.
  17. Looks can be deceiving in a short series, but yeah, the Dodgers have made a pretty convincing case for themselves.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 5, 2013 -> 10:40 PM) Except the Billy Beane Cult will start up again if they win the World Series. As the fan of a team that has Hawk Harrelson as the TV play-by-play man, that could potentially result in endless fun during Sox 2014 broadcasts.
