  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 5, 2013 -> 08:59 PM) Guess Verlander's not taking too well to being skipped as the Game 1 starter. Ultimate competitor. Saw some articles saying that Verlander should be in the bullpen and his start should go to Porcello. Really? A joy to watch him pitch, even though the Sox get to deal with him several times a year. Whoever wrote an article like that no doubt saw how the Giants got cute with Lincecum in the pen, and figured why not? Nothing else to write about, I guess.
  2. Ortiz with 2 HR and now TB have the opportunity to get swept out of the season at the Trop. I may have missed it- was there ever an official explanation from MLB as to why someone isn't standing at home plate with an empty cup waiting for him to round the bases after annihilating yet another baseball?
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 3, 2013 -> 07:59 PM) There's a TON of suspicion now about Pujols, to be honest. Better late than never.
  4. QUOTE (MEANS @ Oct 4, 2013 -> 10:42 AM) I just can't understand why the police couldn't stop her without resorting to shooting her...tire spikes/shoot the tires out...etc. They are lucky the kid wasn't killed as well. It's sad. I hope those who fired on her have long lives ahead of them yet, with this eating away at them for the duration.
  5. LDS Rays over Red Sox in 5 Tigers over A's in 3 Braves over Dodgers in 4 Pirates over Cardinals in 4 LCS Tigers over Rays in 6 Braves over Pirates in 5 WS Tigers over Braves in 6 I'm swell as long as Boston doesn't advance past the ALDS.
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 1, 2013 -> 02:43 PM) ...the Indians... Is there anyone in the world apart from whoever is playing them that wants to see a postseason slot wasted on Cleveland?
  7. I get the feeling that the bigger failure regarding Castro was pegging him as a star to begin with. Certainly not the first time someone from the Cubs farm system fell short of lofty expectations.
  8. I've always kind of envisioned De Aza as being part of the team when they climb out of this little valley (maybe abyss is the better word) they're in.
  9. QUOTE (ChiSoxFan05 @ Sep 27, 2013 -> 02:58 PM) month off of what? the season ended many, many months ago
  10. QUOTE (ChiSoxFan05 @ Sep 27, 2013 -> 02:55 PM) Can someone please tell me what happened? I've been in a meeting all day and I'm sneaking this under the table Paul Konerko has announced that he doesn't know if he is going to retire or not, and CSN is carrying it live.
  11. meh. I'll still venture on out there tonight just in case. And to bid adieu to a wretched, wretched season.
  12. The proper way to announce a retirement is in March just prior to the regular season, so as to give all the teams on your road schedule ample time to prepare gifts and a video board montage- so maybe he's making an announcement that he's going to make an announcement in Spring Training that he's going to retire.
  13. Juan Uribe Tadahito Iguchi Ed Farmer Carlos Quentin Jose Valentin Scott Podsednik Edited to include Scott Podsednik
  14. 18 innings and nearly 7 hours at the Trop probably qualifies as cruel and unusual punishment in some states despite the fact that it was a win against a Baltimore team that is nipping at TB's heels in the Wild Card race.
  15. Meh. Since the Twins conceded early may as well see the Sox launch a few into the bleachers. It's cool how the ball bounces all over the place since there is all of 3 people and a few dogs out there.
  16. I've never known a day that Colin Kaepernick loses that hasn't been beautiful.
  17. QUOTE (SouthSidePride05 @ Sep 12, 2013 -> 09:36 AM) Any fans of the band Live? I followed the band back in the 90s, bought all their albums, went to a couple of their shows. Big fan! The band broke up after their 7th album in 2006, but their lead singer Ed Kowalczyk is still putting out music. His first solo album was pretty dismal, but his 2nd one coming out in the US in Oct (The Flood and the Mercy) is spectacular. It's already been released in a few Europen markets to coincide with tour dates, and leaked online, and in my opinion it's his best album since Throwing Copper. If you liked Live, I think you'll dig this new album. Live is kind of a funny one. Over the years there have been very brief (maybe 10 days or so), sporadic instances where my ears will want to devour Throwing Copper & Secret Samadhi and little else. Then, just as abruptly as it began, I'm thoroughly done with their music until the next random musical whim. Last time was probably 2011.
  18. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 12, 2013 -> 04:44 AM) This survivors account is just incredible. http://www.esquire.com/_mobile/features/wh...102-JAN_WTC_rev I came across an article that's perhaps a bit less action packed, but just as much of a gut punch. It's from a year ago and it chronicles those at Logan International (BOS) directly affected by the hijackings via work. One of them is a woman who for years thought that she was the one responsible for checking in two of the hijackers (she had also checked in two of her friends onto the same flight), and was just beginning to make it through what must have been a brutal guilt trip- until it was brought to her attention that she had in fact checked four of the hijackers. http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachus...t_11/?page=full A chilling, but interesting article.
  19. Remember is a word that gets thrown around with regularity on this day for the past 12 years, but we've been forced to "remember" every day since. Lament is probably a more accurate word for this day.
  20. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 10, 2013 -> 08:59 AM) Greatly enjoyed the inclusion of that there clip in your post.
