  1. lmao @ the drunk trying to make small talk with A-Rod that the crowd mic is picking up.
  2. Stranding the bases loaded has probably ended the night for many that play drinking games while watching the Sox.
  3. I imagine this is as packed as The Cell will be for a while.
  4. I think they definitely do. They may do it in a half-assed manner, but they will. A good chunk of them aren't strangers to PEDs anyway.
  5. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 05:39 PM) Sounds like that will happen. I say drill him first AB and the baseball world will love us. Honorary Playoff Spot
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 02:58 PM) For reference http://www.baseballthinkfactory.org/oracle..._the_pod_people Thanks much for the new desktop wallpaper.
  7. Ah yeah- that stunt involving the Bolivian president's plane was one for the ages.
  8. If I were him, I'd probably want to keep my stay there as brief as possible. Keep trying until someone else opens their doors and then book it out of there. He's better off over there than he would be here, but probably not by much.
  9. Political asylum for one year granted by Russia.
  10. Too bad. I'm fond of JP and was hoping he would end up on a team that I could adopt as a rooting interest while the Sox are busy trying to secure a favorable position in the draft.
  11. I abhor seeing a closer pitching in tie game/down a few runs/before the 9th inning situations, but at this point (with the team being all but mathematically eliminated and all) I like it. It's not the same hot seat as it would be if the team was alive in the standings, but it's gotta count for something (experience wise). September call-ups ought to be fun as well.
  12. Get rid of the AC/DC music at the beginning of the game. You could probably take a look about doing something about the Pirates intro, but the AC/DC has to go away forever.
  13. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 11:50 AM) Even the punters? I know many positions in football come with a revolving door, but it seems especially true for punters (and kickers). Kick the football a little further than the next guy, and maybe you're able to hold on to a roster spot. It's not necessarily even about making it to the "show"; IIRC, someone who is strictly on a team's practice squad makes just under $100K annually. I know the affordability of PEDs may be an issue in those cases, but people will do conniving things to gain an advantage on their competition for much pettier things than a six-figure salary.
  14. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 09:42 AM) Rodgers is a tool for defending Braun. Unless of course, he's also on PEDs or something. I would be surprised if the percentage of NFLers on PEDs wasn't somewhere in the neighborhood of 100%.
  15. The cover of Rolling Stone? Outrageous. Next I'm going to read that they printed his actual name instead of He Who Must Not Be Named like we all agreed upon earlier.
  16. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jul 17, 2013 -> 08:15 AM) I'm not usually a grammar nazi but I think the word is "psyched". Yeah, you're right. I was under the impression that the spelling of the word as I wrote it applied to the idea that I wanted to convey, and that psyched held a different meaning, but I see now with the help of The Google that this is not the case. I think I'll just use stoked next time.
  17. I hope that was the crescendo of the Kiss Mariano Rivera's Ass Whenever the Tiniest Opportunity to Do So Presents Itself Farewell Tour. Also, I hope he's better at making up his mind than #4 was. Siked for Pt. II when Gold Glover follows suit, probably within the next two seasons.
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 02:39 PM) I will just say that, for all the non-excitement that they create, the Spurs seem to be the team the Bulls are modeling themselves after. I'm good with that. It's a solid plan as long as they're able to make their free throws in the closing moments of a potential NBA Finals clinching game.
  19. I could see why Terrell Owens was trucked during his Dallas Star episode, his intent was obvious- but people who claim to take offense and are feigning outrage about a kid stepping on a patch of carpet that has a logo drawn on it in a locker room...? Really? That's an entirely new level of clowndom. There are probably sacred patches of carpeting in the Vatican that get stepped on but don't generate a fraction of the response this is getting.
  20. I'd imagine it's similar to what we sometimes see with aircraft fires/emergencies on the ground- they (emergency personnel) want them shut off to prevent anything unexpected from happening or compounding the situation. One example off the top of my head is the Qantas A380 with the engine failure. The passengers were kept on board because there was a fuel leak in the proximity of an engine that they weren't able to shut down. The extent of the firefighting effort was to spray water at the engine until it flamed out. In this case, it wouldn't surprise me if the firefighters wanted it off to prevent what actually ended up taking place- the train rolling away- from happening. It's understandable that they didn't know the brakes were powered by one specific locomotive, which is why it's clownish of the townsfolk (and now I've seen reports that the firefighters take issue with it as well) to get defensive about it. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 01:08 PM) FWIW: The Associated Press ‏@AP 1h BREAKING: Railway company chief says employee failed to properly set brakes in Quebec train crash. Just saw that come across as well- it still looks as if the disabled locomotive had a significant role in this. From reading around, I think the handbrakes are a sort of last resort, while the airbrakes are the primary brakes. Not sure why I continue to go to CNN for anything, though. Their version of this story is bound to go through more plot twists than a Choose Your Own Goosebumps book.
  21. http://www.cnn.com/2013/07/10/world/americ....html?hpt=hp_c3 http://www.cnn.com/2013/07/09/world/americ...pt=hp_inthenews RE: Canadian Derailment Am I missing something here? The locomotive caught fire, the town's fire department put the fire out- disabling the locomotive that powered the brakes in the process without first consulting the engineer. Predictably, the train rolls away unmanned and wipes out a good chunk of said town when it derails, and the CEO of the railway company who had nothing to do with it is the one getting death threats and hate mail? The townsfolk are outraged that the CEO would dare suggest that their fire department inadvertently caused the train to roll away? The mayor of this little village and the leader of the Mounties decline to comment as to whether or not they will speak to the railway CEO, who again, had jack-s*** to do with the mess their own clown fire dept. inadvertently (but nevertheless, recklessly) created? Canada...
