DJ wishing a peaceful inning for Reed. Very kind of him to do so. -
2013 MLB Catch-All thread
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Diamond Club
Wow, I go downstairs to fix myself a sandwich while I'm watching Red Sox/Angels- LAA losing 7-3 in the bottom of 9, but Boston's guy just hit someone to load the bases. I come back, and it's the top of the 10th. *edit* I see now that it wasn't even a grand slam. I hate both of these teams. -
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 5, 2013 -> 01:35 PM) While I never liked how Dunn sucked at the plate, I could never hate the guy. He never ducked a reporter or acted defensive towards his poor play. You don't see a lot of athletes acting like that today. Oh, I agree. I don't think whether or not someone is good at baseball is legitimate criteria in choosing to either like or dislike someone. The guy under-performing is probably more frustrated at himself than his team's fandom is. It's not like Buckner went out there with the intention of whiffing on a roller hit to him, for example. I linked that thread because it's just as the OP said it would be- The Sox aren't playing for anything but draft positioning anymore, and just like clockwork, Adam Dunn is a home run machine again.
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 4, 2013 -> 03:17 PM) Adam Dunn is the only reason this team is watchable. Watching Dunn in recent times, I can't help but recall this thread that came along shortly after he signed ahead of the 2011 season. I was ecstatic that KW signed him FWIW.

The continuing fall and decline of PHT.

re: Gamethreads, it can always be worse. I lurk nsbb.com's boards from time to time- gamethreads consist of one dude who posts absurd info that I don't want to believe anyone actually keeps track of (The Cubs are 16-39 against the Cardinals at new Busch Stadium when there were 7 clouds in the sky over St. Louis and the temperature in Maturín, Venezuela was 86 degrees at the time the first pitch was thrown). Things like that are liable to happen if the season has passed the point of being funbad. -
Games Thread 6/28, CLE @ SOX x2

I wish they picked a different day to do their indoor Canadian soccer on ice parade. City is probably impenetrable via Metra. I was pumped to find out this was a straight doubleheader... -
Could Konerko be a fit for the Yankees?

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 27, 2013 -> 09:06 PM) How in the f*** is Corky Miller on a roster? His parents very clearly knew what they were doing when they named him Corky. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 02:32 PM) Does anyone know if that catcher they have, C. Stewart, is any good? I enjoyed this. Fun fact: When it comes to former White Sox catchers since 2005, only Pierzynski, Stewart, and Corky Miller are on an MLB roster. -
THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!!!

Top of the 9th nearly transcended the realm of funbad. That's uncharted territory. If they kept going we'd probably start to see black holes being spawned. -
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jun 25, 2013 -> 02:19 PM) I started watching that. Most us were watching the TV broadcast. What's real interesting how classless Stone was on the radio over that. I don't remember that, but I don't doubt it. That's unfortunate.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 25, 2013 -> 07:47 AM) ...pretending to be a hardcore blackhawks fan. Only hockey you ever watched before this year were the Mighty Ducks movies. There is a nauseating amount of these people in the Chicagoland area right now. I hate it.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 24, 2013 -> 05:24 PM) There's no way that anyone who has watched this team play this year truly feels like they're a solid hitting catcher away from contending. Agreed- just one of these should do wonders offensively and defensively whilst being economical. Pierzynski was easily one of my favorite Sox of all time, but if he sticks around in 2013 (beyond...?), there's a good chance that this misery the Sox are presently going through is getting put off for no reason at all.

And that's White Sox Winner

Naturally, they light KC up on the road in a game that has Bruce Chen pitching. -
QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 12:17 PM) I can't stand football. I know I'm in the extreme minority but I just think it's the dumbest sport, and all they do is talk football like 9 months a million months out of the year. I can't even turn on the radio unless there's a game on. But that's better anyway, those guys are all blowhards. I'm on this good ship as well. I won't go out of my way tonot watch the NFL, but I'm perfectly content with not hearing a peep about it outside of the 20-30 minutes a week that I happen to be in a room with a tv that has the game on. The low end of "casual fandom". It's interesting to look back and see how that has changed since high school when I actually played the sport. Worse than Nascar talk, though, is Fantasy Football talk. The world would be a better place without Fantasy Football and any talk pertaining to it.

It's more radio booth than tv (but it happens with the tv booth too)- when a team has eliminated itself by the middle of June, it's interesting to hear who gets ragged on and to what extent. Alexei and (especially) Flowers are two who seem to get a fair share of the spotlight from Farmer & DJ. De Aza does as well, though not to that extent. On the flip side, Beckham looks like he's got some fans in there. Gillespie too.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 18, 2013 -> 09:19 PM) Lebron without the headband! A new man! Consciously going for the Curt Schilling effect. I hope San Antonio squashes that before it starts. -
It's gotten to that point where it's interesting to hear who draws the ire of the booths (TV & Radio) and who doesn't.

Do you want Ventura back as manager next year?
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm not convinced Ventura himself wouldn't click 'no' if he stumbled onto this thread. I do agree that this most likely has less to do with Ventura than it does those he answers to. Still, some of the idiotry we've been treated to (especially on the defensive side of things) shouldn't make it's way on to an MLB diamond unless some high schools are playing there while the Sox are on the road. -
2013 MLB Catch-All thread
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Diamond Club
Wieter's 2 run shot to come to within 1 of Red Sox 5-4 with 1 out in the 9th. And a base hit in the next AB. Fun game to watch- we don't seem to have much of these in the Chicagoland area this year. Oh wow. Casilla, who pinch-ran, got doubled off to end the game on a fly out. He was all the way at 3B, so he likely thought there were 2 out. Brutal. Buck isn't going to be happy in the locker room. -
QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jun 15, 2013 -> 05:28 AM) Rongey always has an excuse, he argues with everyone, he's a tool. From the times I've listened this year, he's been pretty transparent about the suck and baddity of this year's team fairly early on into the season.
