  1. QUOTE (Cali @ Mar 12, 2012 -> 02:30 PM) If they move from Oakland and drop it from their name, it's the easiest nickname ever: The San Jose's There was concept art floating around a while ago for a proposed ballpark in Oakland. I thought it looked great. If they insist on leaving Oakland, I hope they take those plans with them to San Jose.
  2. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 20, 2012 -> 06:50 PM) I had said pretty much all along that there was no way he was going to keep up his pace, and he definitely did not. It was fun to watch their desperate fan base think otherwise, though. I'm pretty sure Darwin Barney isn't the baseball player Cub fans think he is either.
  3. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 15, 2012 -> 03:46 PM) Oh, and, of course the whole DEFENSIVE thing too. Cabrera was serviceable at 3B. Coming down the stretch run of the season (30 games) while Detroit was in the process of overtaking the AL Central lead, he had 1 error. You always heard people whining about how the opposition should just bunt towards 3B, yet it never happened. It shouldn't be lost on anyone that he was willing to slide over to 3B in order to accommodate Fielder at 1B. That was a pretty valuable thing to do in itself.
  4. It's unfortunate for Trout that he had the year he did, when he did. He'll have to make do with ROY- not too shabby by any means. He'll have plenty of time to work on an MVP in a year that Cabrera doesn't scare the piss out of anyone who has ever pitched a baseball (including ceremonial first pitch).
  5. Torn between trading a name player for some sort of (mediocre) return and outright dumping someone for half-used tin of Wintergreen Copenhagen. Went with the latter. It'll probably be a reliever that no one except his family will ever think of or hear from again mere days after the move is made.
  6. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 10, 2012 -> 12:43 PM) Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal Sources: Hunter prefers to play every day. Ten teams have contacted him, including #Dodgers, #Tigers, #WhiteSox, #Rangers, #Mariners. Anyone still interested in Torii Hunter in a Sox uni? Kenny always gets his guy. Rick Hahn always gets Kenny's guy.
  7. I voted option A. I dislike him, and I don't care where he ends up, so as long as it isn't here.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 03:04 PM) You have an odd thing for dead people in CF. Meh, Jerry Owens wasn't on his list so it's probably just a coincidence.
  9. A year like that, and he wasn't even on the all-star team. Part of my all-time Sox Mt. Rushmore, but his walk year was so good, that it was too good. I don't think I want to see the Sox even try to re-sign him at this point.
  10. QUOTE (The Gooch @ Nov 8, 2012 -> 12:30 PM) That bad? Depends on what you're looking for. It most certainly isn't the "classic Aerosmith" album everyone in the band said it was going to be, but I assume nobody was fooled by that hype campaign. Lyrically, it's so bad that it feels like a collection of rejected Just Push Play material with a healthy sprinkling of cliche Aerosmith phrases. Musically, there is some good work here- nothing ground breaking or even memorable, but they've been doing what they've been doing for a long time, so you can't really expect anything less. The mind-numbing lyrics are delivered quite well by Steven Tyler for what it's worth. There were some songs that had their good moments, but in each case, those same songs managed to find the time for equally bad moments. There wasn't one track that was great from start to finish. A lot of the songs will get stuck in your head, it's too bad that they aren't particularly good songs. I think this album was recorded and released to capitalize on Steven Tyler's American Idol schtick- can't blame them for that. I wish they would have just continued what they did for Honkin' On Bobo and applied it to some original material. On a scale of 1-5, I would probably give it a 2.
  11. I know much hubbub has been made about lack of attendance for this team, but I would imagine in just about any other city, a team that sat in first for 120+ games in a year where "Appreciate the Game" was the marketing campaign, prices would stay put or even increase. I wonder how much the Red Line closure contributed to the price reductions.
  12. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 03:30 PM) DKnobler ‏@DKnobler Padres have traded OF Blake Tekotte to White Sox for PTBN yessssss.
  13. The first new Aerosmith album made up entirely of original material since 2001 arrived on my doorstep today. Based on the new material they've been playing live, I'm terrified to open it. **Edit** My gut feeling was right.
  14. Going to have to get a new desktop for work, so I'll get to try it out sometime this week. I was really surprised that cell phone-wise, they're retiring WP7 in favor of WP8 so soon. WP7 users won't be able to upgrade, either. WP7 isn't/wasn't exactly popular in a world where it's either Android or iOS, but it is/was a damn good OS. Same goes for Window 6.5.
  15. As it stands, I just dearly want the Titans to be held to just the safety. There's something beautiful about getting clowned like this and only having 2 points on the board next to your logo. I think it's funnier than actually getting shut out.
  16. I don't watch a whole lot of NFL, I don't think I've even watched more than 30 minutes of 1 Bears game- but I've been saying since week 3 that this is a Super Bowl team.
  17. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Nov 1, 2012 -> 10:59 AM) Pascual Perez, possibly the most '80s baseball player, was killed in an armed robbery Again? Damn.
  18. I'm usually a tree every year, but I honestly forgot it was Halloween until the early afternoon yesterday. When I got home from work, I think the doorbell rang a total of 4 times between 6:30 - 10:00.
  19. Royals just got had by the Angels. Everyone knows KC minor-leaguers are going to be the next big thing in like 2 or 3 years once they develop. Everyone except KC.
  20. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 30, 2012 -> 09:38 AM) They better watch out for the Padres and Dodgers who should have an easy path to the playoffs over the now complacent and lazy Giants. +1 pure gold.
  21. Very glad to see Peavy back. Taking it a step further- I'm good with Floyd sticking around as well. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Oct 30, 2012 -> 05:01 PM) Oney Guillen ‏@Oneyguillen wow. awful signing. awful. god bless that money. but wow I hope this ass burger's passport is revoked in Spain and his daddy stops paying his cell phone bill so he can't use Twitter anymore. Thickest skull of all time. It's always this one too. I don't recall the other two clowning themselves every time they get the chance to like this one does.
  22. Wow, some of this stuff is jaw-dropping. Definitely wasn't expecting something of this magnitude. Seaside Heights was bound to get the wrath of God for a few years now, so at least in this particular instance it isn't as surprising. This is the aftermath in Cuba. Really surprised at the scale of damage. Based on some of the pictures, you would think the loss-of-life would be much worse- luckily it's not.
  23. In a way, it reminds me of excessive celebrations in the NFL when you're losing by 35 and it's garbage time towards the end of the game. I find it much easier to bask in the failure of individual athletes that I'm not fond of. Sometimes, a team will come along that happens to have several of those on their roster (Miami Heat). At that point it becomes something else. QUOTE (daggins @ Oct 29, 2012 -> 07:50 AM) You could also compare them to the 2010-2011 Miami Heat, who fell just short because they lacked depth and got cold at the wrong time. That comparison crossed my mind when I was thinking about the absurdity of Cabrera/Fielder/Martinez and whoever else Ilitch buys occupying at least1/3 of their batting order next year.
