The Tigers season was a month longer than the Sox season. That should temper any celebration or festive mindsets.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 27, 2012 -> 08:47 PM) Lincecum has been straight up filthy I'm a Lincecum fan- it's great seeing contribute in a big way despite not starting. Their situations are different, but how about Washington taking this approach with Strasburg instead of what they ended up doing? At first glance I think it's a resounding no- purely because you don't want to risk messing with him mentally by introducing him to a different role/taking him out of his comfort zone, but that was a pretty awful way to get bounced from the postseason, and who's to say shutting him down like that doesn't affect him/ -

Actual cars parked around the ballpark on display for advertising purposes, be it in Chicago, KC, Detroit, or anywhere- is tacky and lame, and should go away forever. -

Nice touch by the Tigers to have 'Thank You 3 Million D Fans" on the backstop to start off the game. Really cool of the org. -
QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Oct 25, 2012 -> 05:53 PM) I think it happens AFTER the WS, as MLB hates to have non-WS news taking the spotlight away from any announcements the Yankees feel obliged to make in the middle of the World Series. (Brett Fa...err...Mariano Rivera may or may not be back next season) Stop the world and let me off. At least it's not Pettitte or Clemens this time.

QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Oct 25, 2012 -> 01:43 PM) The other idea I have is probably too expensive, but if they could figure out a way to put a bar in the UD that overlooks the skyline (near where they have the beginning of the exit ramp), that'd be awesome. People love a nice view at a ballgame, but usually you don't see it at the Sox games until everyone's leaving. Whatever their reason for it was (is it really that 35th & Shields story?), a big strike against this ballpark was permanently made when they built it facing away from the amazing view of one of the best skylines in the world. No matter how great the modifications and renovations over the years have been (and they have done wonders for the place), it'll never be as good as it could have been. I hate to use a stale meme, but this is a profoundly epic fail.

The place has a really corny atmosphere to it- that's been bothering me more and more as time goes on. Sometimes it feels like all that's missing is the video screen prompting the fans to do the wave... I'm not a fan of the loud noises(!) and bright colors kind of thing they do, but unfortunately that seems to work on a lot of people. There was one game in particular that stands out to me when it comes to that: In 2008, I took 3 of my Cub fan friends to the Cell. They've never been before. The game was awesome. It was a Sunday Night game, Carlos Quentin took Lackey deep twice, Sox swept LAA, and the Cub fan friends absolutely loved the Cell. "So much better than Wrigley!", they said. Why? Because of the f***ing loud noises and explosions. Say what you want about what goes on at Wrigley, but I'd trade the atmosphere at the Cell for the atmosphere at Wrigley 10 times out of 10. In fact, if I didn't know better, I would have guessed that the ADD s*** would happen at Cub games and the plain low-tech presentation with less distractions would be at Sox games- not the other way around. Until 2009, I would typically be at the park 20-30 times a year. This year, I had a split season plan and went to less than 10 of the 27 (IIRC) games that came with it. Nancy Faust stepping down- initially from night games, and then retiring altogether was a big loss IMO. Another thing I would personally do away with that I don't see going anywhere anytime soon is the AC/DC- Pirates of the Caribbean intro. I thought maybe with some of the changes that the 2012 season brought, they would perhaps tweak it. They did not. Bacardi at the park was is one excellent addition, but wtf is up with the Dicks Sporting Goods they built on top of it this year? There are already many places I could purchase over-priced merchandise inside the park... Another wise move by the Sox (even though I actively dislike hockey and am basking in yet another lockout) would be to find ways to get the Blackhawks involved. Come up with some cross-promotions. I see that this has been done to a certain extent already, but expand it. That Hawk championship has attracted quite the crowd of bandwagon fans- these are impressionable people that can be taken advantage of. Same with the Bulls, which because of the ownership, shouldn't be too difficult.

Donald Trump is a f***ing clown. It should bother everyone everywhere that our society is set up in a way that attention is given to mentally crippled individuals like Trump- so as long as they have money. If you planted a million dollars under a tree and stuck a microphone in front of it's face (in front of it's trunk?), it would have more valid, compelling, and less ridiculous thoughts and opinions than this jamoak. That brief period of time that it was rumored he would run for president was incredibly distressing.

Weird as hell to see Lincecum of the pen, and with the 7 run lead, pretty much working garbage innings. -

Cable is out in my area, so I have to listen to this via radio, but this WS is so glorious that I'm taking the trouble to post this via phone. lmao, Justin Verlander. You just managed to let an opposing player join an exclusive category that has Babe Ruth, Reggie Jackson, and Albert Pujols in it. Obviously that period of inactivity the Tigers had worked out perfectly work for SF. -
Williams wasn't exactly gracious to Frank Thomas at the end of his time here either.

Loria is such a dumbass. He should be made to wear safety mittens, brightly colored clothing and a helmet anytime he's making decisions regarding personnel on his baseball teams. Don't take this as a defense of Guillen- he probably wouldn't have stuck around too long anywhere with some of his stunts- this is yet another example (the latest of many over the years) of the owner's ineptitude. This goes for Boston, and anywhere else for that matter: If you're hiring a manager for a team that is expected to compete (not rebuilding), and in Miami's case- a manager that they couldn't even wait a day or two longer to get- and then you fire him after year one, then you're a f***ing idiot.

AL Comeback Player of the Year goes to.....
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to ChiliIrishHammock24's topic in The Diamond Club
Dunn wins Sporting News' AL Comeback Player of the Year. Correctly. Buster Posey takes it in the NL. (If you're going to click on that link for the article, make sure to have your volume down- Sporting News has one of those obnoxious video ads that play when the page loads) -

If the shot of Stafford with a pound of turf hanging off his helmet isn't on the front page of the Sports section, whoever makes those decisions failed at the job. -
Wow. That didn't work out like Matheny would have liked it to. They come back and win this, then I'm not sure what to think.

I'm a subscriber, and I know you can go back to watch the game, but I'm not sure about actually being able to download it to keep. I've never used tivo, so this is just speculation, but I wonder if you would be able to stream mlb.tv via a PS3 and tivo it?

Surprised to see Kozma at second after the missed ball in the outfield. Too many times the batter seems content with being at first on that play.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 19, 2012 -> 12:41 PM) Fernando Rodney Fernando Rodney. Wow. Jamie Moyer is more deserving for the simple fact that he was able to throw a pitch over home plate from the mound without bouncing it during an official game. Adam Dunn is the winner of this award. Rios and Peavy deserved it too, and any other year should have won it by miles- but their 2011 wasn't nearly as abysmal as Dunn's was. That's saying a lot. -
2012 NLDS Nationals vs Cardinals

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 19, 2012 -> 09:28 PM) He signed a $126 million deal. I have literally never felt bad for Barry Zito. I wasn't looking at it from a financial perspective, but if someone signs you for $126M, then it could be reasonably concluded that they expect you to play a big role in what they're trying to accomplish. When that time finally came in 2010, they felt that the team was better off with Zito at home on his couch watching their postseason run. They didn't even bother burying him somewhere deep in the back of their bullpen where the sun doesn't shine. -

I'm sick of hearing the NFL on Fox music used for MLB on Fox. I'm enjoying this Barry Zito resurgence. I couldn't help but feel bad for him getting left off the '10 Championship run roster. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 19, 2012 -> 06:43 AM) Even if the Sox had made the playoffs, they would have gotten their asses kicked in the first round. Their top three starters were DOA, their 1-4 hitters were hurt, and their closer was pretty much closed out. About the only guy that was really hot was Gavin Floyd, and maybe Alex Rios. That's it. DeWayne Wise.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 18, 2012 -> 09:01 PM) It's disheartening that Mr. Gordon, I mean, Delmon Young would end up winning the MVP. He's such a scumbag human being. One of the nice things about the Tigers extending their season is that it presents more opportunities for Delmon Young to get HBP. Always look on the bright side of life.

This is what happens when you designate DeWayne Wise for assignment.
