  1. They're deserving. One thing that might slow them down is an extended NLCS.
  2. QUOTE (black jack @ Oct 18, 2012 -> 06:22 AM) I still love Hawk. I love most of his cliches and spout them off to my wife and kids. I don't like the double 'YES'. I could care less about his grumpiness because I'm usually turning the game off when they turn ugly. I imagine I'm in the minority, but my biggest issue with Hawk are the parrots that he attracts. I'm not directing this at you, it's just a general observation that the second sentence of your post broached. There is nothing wrong with a well placed line here or there, but there are those who insist on applying his gibberish to every facet of life (which is weird, because there are only like 8 "Hawk-isms" that I can think of off the top of my head). It's bad enough to hear Animal House, Will Ferrell movies, Entourage (especially Entourage ), and Family Guy everywhere. The White Sox are keenly aware of this: - The grimace and frown I had on my face anytime that commercial aired was so pronounced that I'll probably start getting lines on my face years earlier than I would have otherwise. It's probably just the joyless and bitter side of me talking, though- I know I'm in the minority and most people get a kick out of it.
  3. Bob Brenly bids adieu to the Cubs. Too bad, he was pretty good in that booth.
  4. Pretty awesome rumor going around that there's going to be an announcement concerning a 2013 concert at Wrigley Field made this Thursday, and all indications are that it's Pearl Jam.
  5. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 16, 2012 -> 01:41 PM) Shock of the century that this is the photo attached to a story like this. Stunning. Although I do think it's BS that someone took the time to attach his name to whatever he was doing- if indeed it wasn't anything illegal. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 16, 2012 -> 03:00 PM) Reddit is basically the new Digg. It's just a bunch of stories upvoted/downvoted by the legion called the "hive mind". Don't go there for anything non-entertainment. It's about 90% liberal / anti-apple posters who inject religion and politics into everything for no reason. Not familiar with Reddit either, but I would have thought some of those descriptions contrast each other.
  6. It's unfortunate for Trout that the season he just had (as a rookie, no less) took place in the same year that Cabrera will rightfully be the unanimous MVP selection. No shame in being Rookie of the Year and runner-up for the MVP award.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 14, 2012 -> 04:28 PM) You're really going to complain about one of the top 3-5 all-time voices of baseball, now deceased? Wow. I was going to edit my original post when I realized what I wrote, but it's so bad that I'm just going to keep it as is.
  8. Ernie Harwell's voice sounds like he contracted strep throat and then went out to a bar and did karaoke all night. It's kind of annoying.
  9. QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Oct 14, 2012 -> 07:10 AM) I'm trying to figure out: (1) Would the Yankees ever pick up the $18-$20 million per year they would need to pick up to make dealing A-Rod palatable. (many say no) (2) Would the new team have to pick up the marketing bonuses for his 700th home run, 763 home run, etc. (this could be a deal killer) At the end of the day, I'm not sure they'd get a taker at anything less than them picking up $80-$100 million of the $114 million in salary and $20 million of the $30 million in marketing bonuses. At that level of payment, it may make more sense to keep him and see if he turns it around. Williams: How about Nick Swisher for Alex Rodriguez, but you eat a large portion of his salary and all of the clown bonuses that someone managed to write in. Cashman: What? Nick Swisher is on our team already. He's been on our team for 4 years, hitting .270 with 105 HR and 349 RBI. Williams: ... Cashman: Oh. Regarding bonuses and salaries- is it permissible to write safeguards against PED usage into the literature of a contract (or if not the contract itself, something you could insure against along the lines of what you see with some injuries)? Ideally, there would be something in the collective bargaining agreement, but I doubt there is seeing as MLPA didn't even want to allow tests that draw blood.
  10. QUOTE (daggins @ Oct 13, 2012 -> 04:27 PM) Nope! Attendance boosts don't work if everyone hates the player. So simple, so true. This should be the extent of analysis by KW & Friends if it should ever present itself as a possibility.
  11. QUOTE (Cali @ Oct 12, 2012 -> 10:30 PM) They won last year. I want new people. That's my reason. That being said I think the Cards are gonna win it all now... No Pujols + No LaRussa = New People What an impressive organization. I've often thought that in the Yankees case, it probably got boring to buy championships after a while (from a fans perspective). This is not that. Our friends in Wrigley must be loving life right now.
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 12, 2012 -> 11:40 AM) 29 MIL to not play in a playoff clinching game. I love it. Ibanez just drove in the first run of the game on a dribbler. O's need to stop messing around and end this circus team's season.
  13. Joba Chamberlain just got an elbow massage courtesy of the better part of Matt Wieters' bat.
  14. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 10, 2012 -> 10:01 AM) Coco Crisp is taking quite a risk having a name that sounds like food and playing in the same park as Prince Fielder and Miguel Cabrera. Would have been much worse for him if his name was Cap'n Crunch and the A's were playing the Yankees. It's the small victories that count.
  15. Wow, of course that was going to happen. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Oct 10, 2012 -> 09:14 PM) Best part is he was PH for ARod. Camera couldn't have cut to A-Rod fast enough after the first one. If TBS did the U-Verse Multiview promo that Sox broadcasts have, two of the four shots would have be of A-Rod during that AB.
  16. It was a down year for Lincecum, enough so that Zito had a better year, and that's what Bochy decided to do.
  17. 1-0 on a bases loaded walk. Is there any way to get the TBS feed with Postseason.tv?
  18. It was a joy to watch Prince Fielder get robbed in the outfield twice and then author a game-ending double play.
  19. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Oct 9, 2012 -> 03:44 PM) Yes, he has improved vastly. He's now a mediocre color man who adds next to nothing unless you're strictly a casual fan. He's basically exactly what ESPN hired him to be. Congrats to him. Nowhere in my post did I call him Vin Scully. For what it's worth, I think he's right at about DJ's level.
  20. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Oct 9, 2012 -> 12:12 PM) Singleton is horrid...................he could not carry Rooney's lunch. Vastly improved by the end of '06 and throughout '07, and better yet since. After hearing them during spring training in '06, I was pretty resigned to sticking with Hawk and DJ on tv- and I probably would have, had it not been for work. Fortunately, I was driving from either Naperville or Wheaton to St. Charles in traffic around the 7 o'clock hour, so unless I was going to the game, it was either Gameday (or whatever variant ESPN has)on a 3G phone while driving, or listen to Singleton stammering for the first few innings. I chose the latter, and you could hear the improvement almost week to week. Of course, Stone came aboard in 2008, and while it wasn't quite as good as when Rooney was there, it wasn't off by much.
  21. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 9, 2012 -> 07:36 AM) Stone is on the Score. Said he's coming back next year, 100%. Nice, great to hear. On a related not- Has anyone gotten the chance to hear Chris Singleton calling the NL Wild Card and Cards/Nats NLDS for ESPN Radio? It wasn't exactly a smooth beginning for him at the beginning of 2006, and it was magnified because of the loss of Rooney. He got better over the course of the year, and by the time he left at the end of 2007, he had made huge strides and it was a shame to see him go- even if it was Stone who replaced him. I caught him calling a few innings of the WC and NLDS and he's really good. You can even hear traces of Ed Farmer's dry ice humor that he struggled to pick up on early in 2006 (in his defense, it's a kind of humor that flies right over the heads of many listeners) before catching on . Good stuff, glad to see him succeed.
  22. Imagine a World Series Game 7 ending like that. Link for everyone's benefit.
  23. QUOTE (scenario @ Oct 7, 2012 -> 08:54 PM) Why is the series starting in Baltimore instead of NY? The altered format (2-3). Washington plays the first two in St. Louis, Cincinnati at San Francisco, Oakland at Detroit, and so on. I think it will revert to the standard format (2-1-2) next year. I don't think it's as big of a deal as some people are making it out to be. Both Wild Card winners were on the road, and Washington, Cincinnati, and New York (road teams) opened their series' with wins on the road.
