  1. I wonder how things would have turned out between the two of them (and Harrison/Ringo) if Lennon was still around. Obviously now, McCartney is all about reminiscing about the good times and making it appear as if things would have worked out in the end, but that's easy to do if the other half of the equation is incapable of saying otherwise. Still, the SNL thing is an awesome story. I'm going to see Band of Horses and My Morning Jacket tomorrow at Pritzker Pavillion in Millennium Park. My level of familiarity with either band is pretty low, so I've thrown all of their music into a playlist so I'm not completely blindsided by it. It feels like the time I wrote a 15 page final essay the night and morning before it was due freshman year of college. That time I got a B, not sure I'll be anywhere near as successful this time.
  2. v. v. Ivan Nova (11-6 4.76) v. Francisco Liriano (4-10 5.22) 7:10, CSN
  3. This is kind of sad and disturbing read about how things led up to Gregory Halman being murdered by his younger brother. Not sure how else to say it- that's an incredibly f***ed up family, pardon the vulgarity.
  4. I think he has it in him if he stays healthy and is still here in 2014. 500 is a different thing.
  5. If they are in fact playing (in Chicago), and I do Chicago sports media for a living, then I'm writing my column now and enjoying my Memorial Day Weekend to the fullest in 2013. I don't feel as strongly one way or the other about Ozzie. I probably would have preferred it if he didn't go out swinging like he did, but it was kind of obvious that it wasn't going to end any differently- probably as early as the day he got hired. I'm not going to waste my breath booing him or throwing batteries at him like some people probably want to do, because what's the point? There were good times to go along with the bad times. I went to watch the Marlins at Wrigley the day Buehrle started- it wasn't anything extraordinary, but I would go out of my way to attend if he starts at The Cell. It would probably be more interesting to watch Zambrano go at Wrigley Field. That's a s***-show that I would love to witness and revel in firsthand. It would be special. I was bummed when I found out he wasn't going to pitch here in that series a few weeks ago.
  6. A bit peeved that I had to leave this one early to catch the 10:40 back home. My lasting impressions from this game are- - It says an awful lot about the kind of person you are if you wear an A-Rod jersey in public. - Weiss maintains perfection on the mound, at least for one more day. My head aches.
  7. QUOTE (farmteam @ Aug 20, 2012 -> 10:56 AM) Apparently Scott had inoperable brain cancer. Yeah. The rotten part is that he had two sons (twins, 12 years old). True Romance- outstanding, probably top 5, but definitely top 10 for me if I had to come up with a list. The Walken/Hopper scene is among my favorites in a movie. Every time I hear the name Floyd- which as a Sox fan is often- I think of Brad Pitt smoked out of his mind talking to James Gandolfini. If I were him, I'd be pissed off that all of the obits mention Top Gun and Beverly Hills Cop II before True Romance. I'd see what I could do about coming back and haunting whoever was responsible for writing it like that. And their family too. Oh,
  8. V. Floyd (9-9 4.43) v. Garcia (7-5 4.68) The Outfielder Weiss is presented with an opportunity to prove his former team wrong for allowing he and his sparkling 0.00 ERA to walk.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 14, 2012 -> 12:24 PM) Ozzie has been as placid as Lake Elizabeth and Marie at 6 a.m. on a to-be-hot summer day since the Castro thing. I think this needs to be quoted at the top of every new page in this thread going forward.
  10. At this point the only thing keeping Kauffman from being my least favorite place for the Sox to play is that it's a good looking park. If it wasn't, it would be right there with Metrodome.
  11. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 16, 2012 -> 06:01 PM) Laffey Taffy 1-2-3 When he was in second grade kids probably made fun of him with this name and it probably hurt his feelings. Crazy kidlets.
  12. Dear David Stern- esteemed Commissioner of the NBA, Kindly empower your league's officiating crews to eject PA announcers at their discretion. Warmest Regards
  13. Here is something from the comment section of the article that need not be overlooked.
  14. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 11:11 AM) I wouldnt mind it just because I'm in talks about trading my xbox for a signed pods sox jersey. Maybe if he's back on the sox it'll boost the value a lil bit. Just make sure not to let your X Box listen in on negotiations without disclosing that to the other party.
  15. My attendance has been pretty shameful this year, I'll feel kind of guilty about being able to get these through the club rather than Stubhub and whatever dollar amount brokers deem they're worth.
  16. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 10, 2012 -> 09:07 PM) I had no expectations when Jordan went up to the plate. I'll take it! I haven't seen much of Jordan Danks' at bats before tonight, but as I happened to be in front of a tv today I thought he looks a lot like a left handed Jayson Werth frame-wise seconds before he launched the ball at a fan 400+ ft. in the RF seats. I hope he pans out.
  17. QUOTE (SnB @ Aug 10, 2012 -> 08:29 AM) To paint w/ a broad brush, the "CUBS SUCK" type of sox fan is usually the lowest common denominator fan there is. I used to have Cub hatred just because it was the proper thing to do as a Sox fan. When I took a step back and contemplated why, the only answer I could think of is "just because". Eventually, I managed to come up with "Go Cubs Go", the assclown Fukodome t-shirts and bandannas, and the combined effort of the fan base and media in managing to turn Bartman's foul ball into a significant historical event that places somewhere between the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and Neil Armstrong's moon landing. Wrigley Field, and also the ability to watch NL baseball if ever the urge arises absolve a good portion of that, so I'm quite alright with them- at least until they become contenders again. I'm not going out of my way to root for them, but I'm not going out of my way to root against them either.
  18. I have an A's Frank Thomas jersey that I'm considering whether to wear or not if I go tonight.
