  1. Aren't you supposed to feel like something is amiss if you're making a dealing with the Braves and things seem too good to be true?
  2. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 12:20 PM) It absolutely was. In BB, Gotham was in it's worst state ever with crime and poverty, and most of the movie was set in the Narrows, the ghettos of Gotham. TDK and TDKR are in a more peaceful Gotham in which Wayne Enterprises and the police force have helped clean up the city and the streets. That would explain the grittiness of the first movie that I think was missed in the next two.
  3. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 08:36 PM) Watching Batman Begins right now, this movie is so severely underrated because of how good TDK was. Especially Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow IMO. I wish Nolan did more with that character. As for the first movie in general- I think it's the best of the three. There's something about it that the next two seem to be missing. I think the essence of whatever that is can be best viewed during the dock fight scene early in the first movie. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 20, 2012 -> 01:02 AM) Just got back. Pretty good. 3 1/2 stars. The Dark Knight was better, in my opinion. 2 HOURS AND 45 MINUTES literally made me lol Sean Connery from Celebrity Jeopardy is the conclusion I reached. Now that this is over and done with, my order of preference is: 1)Batman Begins 2)The Dark Knight 3)The Dark Knight Rises I prefer The Dark Knight over The Dark Knight Rises by the smallest of margins. It's possible that this could change as it sinks in or give it another viewing. That said, it was incredible. I feel sorry for any movie that I'll see for roughly a year's time. I'll most likely find myself watching it again within two weeks, and then again when it eventually begins showing at the cheap theaters like Ogden 6.
  4. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jul 20, 2012 -> 05:52 PM) But one crazy guy shooting people in a theater is a lot different that terrorism. Let's not put them on the same level as far as giving up freedoms, which whether you tried to or not, you basically did with the second paragraph. It's one and the same. Movie theaters are a big part of our culture. Opening fire on a packed theater brings the same results as airplane hijackings, suicide bombers, or hostage takers. It makes people wary of going about business as usual because their sense of security has taken a hit. Armed robbery and gang violence typically have a specific target. Unless something comes out saying otherwise, this guy didn't have a specific target in mind. His target was anything breathing that he laid eyes on- just like the shooter in Norway. It doesn't matter who's behind the gun firing and for what reason- it matters that there is a gun being fired to begin with. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jul 20, 2012 -> 05:52 PM) Minorly annoying considering it only takes a little bit of time. Pointless - I'm sure they've caught someone/deterred someone from bringing in something to an event. Worth it right there. Slippery slope is the concern here. People like to feel safe and the ones who make the rules are well aware of this.
  5. Once upon a time, Gordon Beckham would have been included as an option by anyone starting this thread. Of course, Sale is the no-brainer, but after that, the answer to this question depends on what the team is trying to accomplish by making this trade. If it's a rebuilding kind of move, then I wouldn't be a fan of trading Viciedo. If it's a move made with this year's playoffs in mind, I'm not sure why anyone would choose Konerko. Quintana is actually one that I wouldn't get as upset about because I think it would be a case of selling high. I like him, think he came straight from heaven for this team, but doubt you would get a better return for him than you would right now.
  6. Listening to Farmer whenever Valverde is on the mound is great stuff.
  7. It's kind of unfortunate to see Tiger fans sardining in this park- I'm guessing it wouldn't be the case at the Cell, not even close- and I'm normally not one to give two s***s about attendance.
  8. Even if it's concluded that this was somehow tied to a movie even in the most obscurest of ways, I hope it's not lost upon anyone in the media that this guy was almost certainly incredibly f***ed up, thus making any connection insignificant. His mother's reaction says as much.
  9. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jul 20, 2012 -> 01:32 PM) Even if a guy enters a theater or school with a gun, the alarm or whatever goes off...everyone's still getting shot seconds later anyway. So yes, I think that would be somewhat of a waste. As evidenced by The Matrix.
  10. I hope the overrated walking rack somehow contributes to Verlander's downfall.
  11. QUOTE (G&T @ Jul 20, 2012 -> 09:07 AM) Witnesses stated clearly on the Today show that he was dressed more like a police or SWAT team officer rather than Bane...but that's not what the media wants to say. And that is infuriating.
  12. Wish I could say that I'm shocked, but I'm not.
  13. Wow. After the initial disgust with this cowardly piece of s*** and sadness for the victims, the next thought that comes to mind is how occurrences like this are only going to expedite unfortunate changes into the way of life that we know. I hope this doesn't scare people off from going to movies (or similar activities), but I know that it will at least be in the back of some people's minds.
  14. I f'ing hate it when a closer is used to get anything other than all 3 outs in the 9th. That includes a 5 out save beginning in the 8th, or inheriting the previous pitcher's situation in the 9th (be it bases loaded no outs, or one out nobody on). Start the 9th with your closer and sit the hell down until he either blows it or gets a save. It's in his hands, not yours.
  15. Youkilis out with "being content to have gone 5/12 with 3 RBI including an eventual game winning 3 run shot to the monster seats over 3 games against the team that unceremoniously gave him away for free." Hope he feels better soon.
  16. By who? A 15 year old rabid Red Sox fan with access to a gamecube and MVP 05?
  17. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 10:27 AM) I think alot of posters on here had alot bigger hopes for the Sox during Ozzie's tenure and feel like we underperformed. Its great we won a WS title, but didnt we all expect ALOT more? I was pretty much at the point of clearing my schedule for October in 2006 walking out of the park after the Cardinals series. I would have been right to do it too...if I was a Cardinals fan.
  18. I'll be in attendance today and tomorrow if the jungle weather decides to go away for a change. I heard soundbites of Buehrle commenting on what the Sox have pulled off to this point. Just really weird to hear. I haven't really followed what he's done up to this point like I wanted to going in to the season. I kind of lost the desire to watch the NL when it became apparent that the Phillies phucked up. Edit- Stubhubbed away today's tickets- made $25 a seat for ass seats, and it looks like it's going to storm to boot.
  19. Youkilis came straight from heaven for this team. I'm almost worried that he'll feel vindicated if he keeps doing what he's doing and eases off the pedal after this series. Hopefully Valentine kindly continues to supply material. Maybe call up a gas can loogy from the lowest level of their farm system to be an inning eater when they're getting blown out and have him wear #20.
  20. Damn. Makes me feel pretty awful not only about my spending at games/concerts, but every day. I was quite pleased with myself for staying true to my resolution of not buying beer at a sporting event or concert and not driving/paying for parking. It's pretty liberating...until you think of the many other ways there are for you to spend.
  21. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 08:08 PM) South Detroit is in Canada/Lake Erie. True story, bro. War of 1812 coming back to bite them in the ass 200 years later.
  22. Probably not being fair to him, but when I think of Lillibridge and baserunning, I remember him getting clowned- pie in the face style- late in a few games after he was put into the game specifically to prevent something like that from happening. One of them (in 2011) ended up being one of the more demoralizing extra-inning losses I've seen. I suppose I should also acknowledge the Ruthian (or at least Shelton-esque) power numbers he put up if I'm going to pick and choose like that...
  23. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Jul 7, 2012 -> 08:26 AM) http://www.theonion.com/articles/cubs-orga...ker-stuf,17597/   This is so pure.
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 05:45 PM) Call Les Grobstein's show and tell him the AL is way better and get ready for some fireworks. I've stabbed out many an eardrum listening to Lester's "The NL is just as good" bit. I sometimes like to keep the radio on as background noise to go to sleep. After the first inning of the All Star game, that was out of the question for at least the rest of the week. It's almost as misplaced as his over the top Lakers and Celtics hate.
