  1. Awesome. I like watching the Rangers get knocked around as much as the Red Sox in recent years.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 2, 2012 -> 02:38 PM) AP reports the official announcement of the discovery of the "Higgs Boson" particle will happen on Wednesday. Wow, I'm pumped about this. I know it'll just lead to more questions, but hopefully some of them haven't been thought until this finding.
  3. Haha nice. Most years, the punchline would be when Buck says they're trying to win now.
  4. AJ really ought to be there. I'm not really one who does the whole "vote for anyone and everyone on your team eleventy times" thing, but I would do that if it comes down to 2 or 3 guys vying for the last spot. As nice as it is to watch Dunn hit moonshots at people in the bleachers, I think AJ and Rios are more deserving of his spot. I would have thought Youkilis got more than enough votes to secure a spot long before he switched Sox (wearing a Red Sox or Yankee jersey adds roughly 75 points to a player's BA).
  5. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 03:37 PM) Axelrod 26 Jh Danks 27 Jones 26 Quintana 23 Reed 23 Sale 23 Santiago 24 Septimo 27 Flowers 26 Beckham 25 Escobar 23 Jr Danks 25 Viciedo 23 13 of 25 under 27. Pretty good. And that's with a 25 year old Morel being replaced by the 33 year old Youkilis. The Sox got younger a lot more quietly than I would have thought. The Cubs have gotten younger too, they were pretty loud about it. They've all but printed the fact on the cover of their media guide and their tickets.
  6. Never knew Peavy had bad eyesight. Blind as a bat according to Cowley.
  7. From 2005-onward, AJ is the face of the Sox to me after the obvious Buehrle/Konerko combination. I wouldn't mind seeing him finish his career here, although realistically that would entail an eventual backup role.
  8. "Going forward in reverse" started to look like an appropriate slogan after about the 33rd time a rookie or minor league call up came up here and the relatively good play (and lead over the rest of the Central) has held up. Another slogan that would probably work is "Alex Rios", or even just the mug shot they show on the jumbo tron during his at-bats. 2012 Chicago White Sox: Alex Rios was the face of the 2011 season for me- more so than Adam Dunn or the Guillen family. It's only fair that I would identify 2012 with him, even with the plethora of other solid contributions this roster has handed in.
  9. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 08:28 PM) Saving it for rest of series. That's like a girl saving herself to do porn with the way the offense has been.
  10. I remember getting a kick out of watching him pitch for the Cubs whenever I watched their games with Cub fan friends. Anytime there was a shot of him warming in the pen there would be cursing, grumbling, sometimes one or more of Kübler-Ross' Stages of Grief, and me reveling in their agony. I was under the impression that he was out of baseball when the Sox signed him, but the Adam Dunn signing that preceded this was still fresh enough that it was easy to stomach. He wasn't especially expensive, and using him as a LOOGY couldn't be that bad. Once the season rolled around, Ozzie either misplaced the LOOGY manual and directions that came in the box with Ohman, or they weren't written in Spanish.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 01:04 PM) Rizzo is being made out to be the second coming. Third Coming. Samarjesus has been spreading the good news on and off 2008-2010, and full time since 2011. Somehow Starlin Castro and Theo Epstein figure into this as well.
  12. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 02:56 PM) Egads, the new Offspring is horrendous. Next? The new Smashing Pumpkins. I have to assume it will be s***. Dexter Holland's voice = The worst, most offensive noise in the world. There just isn't any two ways about that. It's like a banshee and some stray cats coming out of nowhere screaming and wailing through a megaphone two inches from your ears right as you were about to fall into the most peaceful sleep ever. On the plus side, I keep hearing and reading that the new Pumpkins album is pretty good, possibly Corgan's best stuff since the late nineties. Another surprising piece of info about Oceania is that they're actually moving copies at a respectable clip for an act not named Justin Beiber, Nickle Back or Lady Gaga. Looking forward to checking it out eventually.
  13. Dunn remembering how to hit baseballs at people in the bleachers was my favorite part of this season for a while. It worries me a bit, but I think it's more noticeable in his case because he was holding steady in the .225 - .230 range- already kind of low to begin with. It's easier to overlook a 15-20 point dip when a guy is in the .290's - low .300's. I think he'll end up .220 - .229, still lower than his career average, but good enough as long as he keeps launching baseballs. The other thing is, last year he fell off the face of the earth early on and stayed there. The biggest concern was whether or not he was just damaged goods- either as a result of injury, getting older, outright forgetting how to play baseball, or even something PED related. It was a relief to see him pick up where he left off in Washington because it meant that whatever it was, it was temporary and in the past. So whatever the reason for this recent dip is, it probably isn't going to bring about an encore performance of suck.
  14. I really really hope that whole "Yooouuuuk" thing stays in Boston.
  15. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 06:08 AM) Thanks for the one outlier year that caused everyone to overlook your minor league stats and believe that you were much better than you really are. You stole these words from my brain. Get out of my head. That really was an impressive 2011, no way you could short him on that.
  16. Lillibridge's ability to do everything is what I'll miss. He could probably pitch too. And catch at the same time. The thing I like best about this trade is that it's relatively early. If he's going to make an impact, better now than over a month later at the deadline. He looks like Kerry King from Slayer. Hope that .225 BA climbs some during his time here. Sox must really want continuity at 3B to get a guy dealing with back problems. Hopefully his back heals and his bat comes around.
  17. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 07:31 PM) what? Hudson?
