AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Nicely done. Winning is the best ad campaign there is (no offense to Appreciate the Game, of course). Excited for the next one. -
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 30, 2012 -> 02:29 AM) Oh hey BJ, what did you think of Chris Sale on Monday afternoon? That's excellent to see. I honestly wasn't expecting Sale the twig to ever be a legitimate starter, so this is great. Hope it's a sign of things to come. If it is- and this is premature in both cases- it will be fun to compare the extended period of time Sale spent toiling in the minors (all 4.2 innings) to Washington's approach with Strasburg. Nothing to discuss now, but hopefully it will be in a few years.

I've got to go with most of the 2006 season (apart from 2005). Opening Day (Night), the 3 game shellacking in late June of the eventual champion Cardinals (20-6, 13-5, and then 1-0)- it was pretty clear during the bottom of the 3rd in that first game against the Stl. that another deep postseason run was in store. Until 90 wins wasn't even enough to place 2nd in the division. September 28-30 of 2008 also deserve recognition, especially the 28th and 29th- which brought about the tiebreaker game in the first place.

It really does need to change. As insignificant as it may seem, it's a layup for Ricketts that he's overlooking at a time when he could use one.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 25, 2012 -> 08:09 AM) Foo Fighters I'll be seeing these, perchance, in Atlanta as a result of them playing the same festival as Pearl Jam. I've been meaning to see them for a while so this will be a nice bonus. Ludacris will be there too.

Carlos Quentin sighting. Leading off the second with a double. Leads off the fifth with a solo shot courtesy of Samarjesus.

Dunn equals 2011 homer total... in May
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Really? I think signing Dunn to that deal so he could do what he did so well for the last eleventy years, getting his 2011 performance, and then taking someone's unwanted baggage just to ditch him- only to see a swift correction from Dunn- that's a pretty big egg in KW's face if he's that impatient...at least to me it is. -
Dunn equals 2011 homer total... in May

The do whatever it takes to get rid of Dunn ideas that began floating around late June-early July were premature and frightening to say the least. -
Cost-controlled, impact talent...
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to Jordan4life_2007's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 28, 2012 -> 04:43 PM) For those like myself that have chastised this organization without remorse the last 2-3 years for the complete inability to produce young, cost-controlled, impact talent the last decade or so - NOW WE'RE TALKING!!! It's about f***ing time. In Sale, Viciedo and Reed I understand what you're saying, but Sale and Viciedo have been part of this organization for the last 2-3 years. -

Paul Konerko under MLB investigation
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to ChiliIrishHammock24's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Same here. Stomach dropped, although I had a feeling it might be a Devin Hester Paul Konerko, you are ridiculous type of thing. -
Excellent resource. Also great for those times that I have tickets I won't be able to use. Opening Day and one of the Red Sox games this year ended up being $100 that I wouldn't have if I ended up eating them.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 23, 2012 -> 10:45 AM) ....waiting for us to be called fake sox fans I'm not sure why so many Sox fans I know are adamant about not stepping into Wrigley. I've never had an issue taking Cub fan friends to The Cell, and they enjoy the experience. I consider myself fortunate that I'm able to take in NL baseball, see teams that I wouldn't normally see, etc. It's MLB baseball, the park has a great atmosphere/setting (especially night games- entirely different experience than day games. Not so much with The Cell). They don't tattoo a Cub logo on your forehead once you've made it past the gate, and there's no requirement forcing someone to root for the Cubs. It's not too hard to adopt an NL rooting interest, and if don't- you can relax and be completely indifferent about the outcome. When it's your team, relaxation and indifference can be hard to find. There were many times this past season that I would drop the $5 and catch a train to the city on a whim after work, and I'm thrilled to see that this summer is shaping up similarly. One strike against Wrigley that stands out is the Steve Goodman song that sounds like it was lifted straight from Jimmy Buffet's catalog. Glass half full- they only do it after a Cubs win, so usually you're in the clear.
-
They're replaying it right now. Tom Ricketts sounds like he's in way over his head. This is the complete opposite of what he probably expected going in.

Please God, let Snoop tour the radio booth and the TV booth. Can't decide which I would like more.

Sox @ Cubs 5/19 game thread
Swingandalongonetoleft replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2012 Season in Review
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 19, 2012 -> 07:52 PM) 4 walks and a homer for Dunn. Nice work CPOTY I wonder how things would have turned out if Dunn and Rios played at this level last year. -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 18, 2012 -> 05:46 PM) The outpouring of love for this guy is crazy to me. All for a very average pitcher. He's a likable person. I don't know who I would compare him to on the Sox- maybe Rowand or Crede? Aside from the little caveat that he won with the Sox, Crede's career was shaped by injuries as well. For a miserable franchise like the Cubs, the 20 K game and the promising path his career was taking early on was one of the few things they had to look forward to.
-
Wow, it shouldn't be surprising but it kind of is. I still have the Trib Sports section for his 20K game. I'm glad he managed to remain in the game and see success at times, even if it was only in a relief role. I wonder if he slides into whatever job it is the Cubs had lined up for him right away. Between the losing, poor performance, and glove tossing, this 2012 farewell tour of his ended about as gracefully as Gheorghe Muresan figure skating. Taking the time away to forget about it and distance yourself from it would be a good idea.

Caught Halladay against the Cubs last year only to watch him get lit up and leave early because of heat exhaustion. Got tickets for Phillies at Wrigley again a while back and it's going to be Doc again. Bummed that Thome won't be participating.
