  1. That was bound to happen. Angels should defer some of Pujols' salary to the White Sox for waking him.
  2. Obviously aside from a run in the postseason for the Sox, Albert outdoing Dunn's 2011 season is at the top of my list of things I'd love to see in the MLB: 2012 edition.
  3. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ May 10, 2012 -> 10:09 PM) Read his book and then tell me what youre level of dislike is...Only book ive read cover to cover multiple times...Hes hands down my fav none Sox player. Not doubting that he comes off as likable or sincere in his book, but something about him seems phony to me. I notice it here and there. One example that comes to mind is how he threw his 3rd Base Coach under the bus after a play at the plate where he slid headfirst and ended up getting hurt. Addicts, in general, are excellent liars. It will be interesting to see how his upcoming free agency plays out.
  4. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Feb 10, 2012 -> 11:45 AM) We will only know Kim Jong-Un's fate for sure when a new picture of him looking at things emerges. lmao
  5. QUOTE (Bighurt52235 @ May 14, 2012 -> 11:42 PM) Except it was the Nasty Nats. There you go. Looks like my effort to erase this from my memory worked to a point.
  6. Preemptively calling for a ban on anyone writing or saying Git-R-Dunn and any variation of it. They'll come for you in the night if you say or write this.
  7. 56 sending his regards to the fans and his former team mates via Ed Farmer.
  8. I'm down if the offense doesn't wither and die against the division before lineup cards are even exchanged. Makes watching baseball that much more palatable.
  9. It didn't end up being a win, but there was a game against the O's (IIRC) that went into extra innings and featured maybe three instances that had the Sox down to their final AB or strike. Teahen homered, AJ homered, it felt like there were a thousand opportunities to put them away. Lillibridge got himself picked off at second after he pinch ran for Konerko. It was remarkable how bad it looked. He completely stopped paying attention to the game and got picked off- the pitcher probably could have walked over there himself to tag him. I think there was also a Santos blown save mixed in for good measure as well. After the two teams did their damnedest to let the other team the win, the O's finally obliged the Sox and won. This is the game that comes to my mind first when I think about walk offs.
  10. When I heard that Sale was going to the bullpen, I assumed it was a precautionary move and temporary. I was really surprised and worried when in the days after the move, it was being talked about as a permanent (at least for the extent of his career on the Sox) change. I'm glad the MRI went well, but it's bizarre how in the course of a few days it went from one extreme to another. The conspiracy theorist in me wonders if Kenny Williams really is on a short leash that would only get shorter if Sale ends up as a reliever. The twelve whole minutes he was given to develop in the Minors could be looked at as a contributing factor (whether it's right or not) to what would be another failed draft pick to top off the litany of failed draft picks from years past. Part II of that scenario would be that Sale as a starter gives the Sox their best chance at winning and being competitive. Without Sale starting, finishing with a respectable record becomes that much harder to do. So I guess the summary of that scenario would be that Kenny is acting in his best interests even if the risks involved aren't anything to sneeze at. It's hard to imagine that being the case, but with the way the situation has played out to this point, and thinking back to some of the behind the scenes activity that saw the light of day last year, it would be less surprising than it should be. :shrugs:
  11. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 8, 2012 -> 07:27 PM) There it is: four 2-run homers for Hamilton today There isn't a player I dislike more than Josh Hamilton. He is really damn good at hitting baseballs though.
  12. My biggest pet peeve is when this team wastes advantages that that were unexpected- be it the performance of an individual you weren't expecting much from (or exceptional performance as in Konerko's case), or the misfortune of other teams in the division (injuries, down years. etc.). Last year Humber and Sale stood out for me. Brent Lilliflower forgot who the hell he was. Pierre got hot and tried to make amends for his early season clownsmanship. Flowers stepped in and hit the ball when Pierzynski went down. No one in the AL Central wanted to win the division. Cleveland spent significant time in 1st place- to the point that they probably fooled themselves into thinking they were for real and got Ubaldo Jimenez. The Twins had a down year- Mauer/Morneau/Nathan spent significant time either being hurt or forgetting how to hit or throw baseballs. Rios, Dunn and Beckham worked together to negate all of that. Peavy continued to make great train robberies of the early 1900's look like stealing from the take a penny leave a penny at a gas station. Danks lost something to the tune of 9 straight decisions early on(?). As luck would have it, this year Dunn, Rios, and Peavy are at the other end of things, and Detroit still hasn't clinched the division like they were supposed to by this point.
  13. QUOTE (flavum @ May 7, 2012 -> 07:32 PM) Rongey is taking some great calls. 10 out of 10 people would turn to the bottle years ago if they were Chris Rongey. Dude is awesome for what he does. Rain Delay Theatre is usually better than actual White Sox baseball.
  14. "Well there's your run, that's what the White sox have told Philip Humber" -Farmer That kind of humor doesn't work as it was intended to with this team.
  15. Good thing I was following this thread- the way Farmer called the 2 run shot Beckham just hit to take the lead had me thinking it was a dribbler down the line that went foul.
  16. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ May 3, 2012 -> 10:23 PM) I've never seen anyone hate DJ with such a passion. I always get the feeling that DJ is just messing with Farmer because he finds him as boring as I do. I don't mind DJ, but there are times that Farmer says something that sails miles above his head. Completely oblivious. This is the third year he's in that booth, so he should know what's going on. Chris Singleton caught on to it by the end of his first year and was starting to mesh well before he left, and Stone knew Farmer's ways from the start. That was the best pairing post-Rooney.
  17. Dunnkeroo! Best part of the season to me thus far is Dunn doing what he was signed to do.
  18. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 3, 2012 -> 06:23 PM) I've been listening to MLB games via Gameday audio for the last couple of weeks and I forgot how good baseball is on radio. I forgot because Ed Farmer is brutal. He's not a radio guy, he can't paint a picture. I've found the best radio broadcasts consist of one broadcaster at a time and don't do the give and take that Farmer and DJ do. DJ is at least tolerable, but probably better suited for TV. I wish the Sox had a radio broadcaster calling their games instead of Farmer. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. I would rather have a gallon of vanilla ice cream call the game than some of those radio broadcasters around the game. Hell, why even pay someone if you could just use the masterful picture that the MVP 2005 booth paints? Hook it up to a mic and let it play. The dry humor and observations that Farmer brings to the broadcast has kept me listening to Sox games during blowouts and through the balance of the season after the playoffs are out of the picture.
  19. QUOTE (zenryan @ May 2, 2012 -> 08:59 PM) She gets tons of guys gushing over her and sending her money. Oh. Doesn't that happen like everyday? A girl who uses her appearance to secure money and other benefits. I think I'm actually going to a few parties celebrating that very concept this summer. My sister is getting married in July and then there are like 5 more I'm invited to between then and October. I skimmed through this article the other day and thought I saw that someone was sending her several thousands? If I were him, I don't know that I wouldn't just cut my losses and take that hit rather than admitting to other people that I sent a girl from the internet thousands of dollars.
  20. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 3, 2012 -> 12:12 PM) Yeah, I guess Marian Hossa isn't a big deal or anything. Or Jonathan Toews. Chicago Rush? Bandits...? After Rose, the ones that upset me the most were Frank Thomas in 2005 and Quentin in 2008. Thomas because I wanted my favorite athlete to cap off his career with a well deserved World Series, and Quentin because he was an MVP on a team that was riding some momentum going into the playoffs. To be honest, I'm not sure those two weren't bigger to me than Rose this year. I got to see Jordan's Bulls do it 6 times. Rose wasn't going to touch that before the injury.
  21. QUOTE (Cali @ May 2, 2012 -> 09:16 AM) So basically count on at least one loss in the doubleheader. It feels like that's usually the case. Not sure where one would find data on number of doubleheader splits vs. doubleheader sweeps. Game 1 could be a softball game with a football score that has you feeling good going into Game 2, only to get shut down by the team you hung 17 on a few hours earlier.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 2, 2012 -> 11:56 AM) Andy Pettitte is on the stand in Clemens's re-trial the last couple days. He's the prosecution's star witness because he can state that Clemens told him he was juicing. Clemens's defense is claiming that pettitte misremembered the conversation. Today, Pettitte admitted under oath that it's possible he misremembered or misheard the statement. This might well destroy the prosecution's case a 2nd time. To be "under oath" means so little that I'm not sure why they even bother mentioning it. It carries about as much weight as pinky swearing does.
  23. I'm basking in the Albert Pujols results one month into the season. Couldn't have happened to a better guy. It's foolish to think this continues for much longer, but I appreciate each and every day that it does.
