The good news is that Neil Cotts up. -
You love Frank, I get it. I don't and have listed several reasons why. I appreciate what he did on the field but the Sox are better off with Thome. I did not state anything incorrectly. All of those things I mentioned happened. You excuse them. One or two... yeah but over his entire career here he was about what was good for Frank over the team. And what link would I give you that you would not blame some type of media bias?

QUOTE(MSHAWKS @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 12:18 AM) If they're so well documented why don't you rehash them? Because they're a figment of your shallow imagination. Shallow imagination? I think you suffer from idol worship induced memory loss. In spring training 2000, a public shouting match between Thomas and manager Jerry Manuel. He repeatedly bashed the club in the press for thier failure to retain Ventura and Belle. Clashed with both teammates and management for his unwillingness to play through an ankle injury. Refused to play first base wanting to DH so he could "concentrate on hitting". (ME FIRST!!!) Thomas/Williams/Reinsdorf Thomas, while a great player, was never a team guy. It boils down to this. If Frank Thomas plays with the 2006 CWS, Konerko is an Angel. I will take Paulie over the childish, selfish antics and no-show in the post season (.231 career post season BA), Frank Thomas every day of the week. I am done with this pissing match.
-
His beefs with other players is well documented. He had more than one front page pissing match with managers and the front office. Suffice it to say, I was not a big fan of him off the field. On the field, the only criticism I have was that I thought we was too quick to take walks with runners in scoring position. There isn't much else to criticize obviously. I thought the guy was a whiney, me first jerk who was one hell of a tough out. Good for him and his success. But I will take Jim Thome in my clubhouse over Frank Thomas any day of the week.

I am fine with Juan playing but Anderson should be too. Mackowiak is not that much better a bat that we can afford his lack of talent in the field. -

If Juan plays for his D (like that), why doesn't Anderson? -

Great. He swings at s***ty pitch and takes him yard. MB can over come this if he gets out quick. Single..... cut this crap off now, Mark. -
I will gladly back up my statement. Thomas went on strike while building a multi-million dollar home with non-union labor. I could careless about the union thing but the hypocrisy was stupid. Konerko was not the only player he did not get along with. I am not going to bother to dig up the details but you all know he had more than one run-in with other players on the team. Konerko had the balls to say what 23 other guys felt. He pissed and moaned about his big contract since the day he signed it. To his credit, he never sat out. For years, he refused to even consider hitting anything but third in the line-up. Even if it was good for the team. The pissing match with Kenny was stupid on both their parts. But Thomas did not become unpopular with many fans and team mates only upon his departure. He never enjoyed much popularity despite being the best baseball player in the city his entire career here.

Frank Thomas was a cancer in the locker room and I am glad he is gone.

PODs went into third standing up which means he was watching the play. Ungood. -

I am also a little sick and tired of everyone riding Brian Anderson like a rented mule. He has picked his game up since the ASG and is hitting .285 with 13 multi-base hits. I don't know how much you expect out of the #8-9 hole but since the halfway mark he has produced. His defense is very solid give or take an error here or there. Our woes are these. Paul Konerko kills far too many rallies with a 1 out, runner on first double play. Pods sucks on both sides of the plate. Our entire line-up is getting rolled over by rookie and/or just plain bad pitchers. We fail to capitolize on good outings like Javy's this week. Brian Anderson is NOT the problem.

QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Sep 8, 2006 -> 03:47 PM) And theres the rub ................... This team should be able to reel off 9-10 in a row. Problem is they HAVNT done it at all this season, so whats to expect them to suddenly do it in the last 2 weeks of the season? The SOX have had NUMEROUS opportunities to run away with this division, but they havnt. Of course, now watch them finish the year on a 9game winning streak and miss the playoffs ............. I don't think that would be possible because unless that streak started tonight, Detroit or MN would be among the victims of that 9 game streak. One of them would suffer and fall out of contention.
-
This team is entirely too good to miss the playoffs. They can rip off 8-9 in a row at any time. I think they will and all this hand ringing will be for not. My only concern is that the Twins come to the post season with us and the Tigers go home. I would much rather face the Tigers than the healthy Twins in the post season. Now if you will excuse me, I have to go finish my beer.
-
The Tigers are giving this race away but no takers.
My Dixie Normus replied to brijames's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I remember thinking last year that I just didn't want to go into the playoffs with the momentum we had about this time last year. The the Sox turned it on and shut down the Indians. The rest is history. The same will happen this year. MN just doesn't have the pitching to finish strong. The Sox are too good to fold that hard. We will make the playoffs and then it is anyones ball game. Keep the faith. -
QUOTE(shoota @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 09:06 PM) AJ eliciting audible laughter from me as he motions that he will give the ball to a Boston fan, but decides to keep it instead. Owned. That is what I saw too. You know he heard a "You suck AJ!" or something like that. Ah, well. Settling in for 9 more innings. Lets play two.
-
Did anyone see what AJ did to the fans after the catch?
