  1. Nice read as always Statmandu. Now how can this thread be turned into a b**** fest about BA not getting playing time like all the rest? I got it! IF BA had been playing the day of Paulie's inside the park home run, he would have surely gunned him down at home.
  2. QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 03:27 PM) OVER / UNDER how many times will Hawk say "softly hit" in the first inning this year? 100 times. He just said it on Konerko's grounder
  3. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 03:26 PM) "And he's out from here to Phoenix". -Farmer. He wasn't out by that much, but he can't be running every time. It's too predictable.
  4. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 10:26 AM) So what dos he do in the 8th inning when the top of the order (Pods, Erstad, Thome) is due up and a LOOGY is warming in the pen? Prob'ly sends up Ozuna who hit .322 against Lefties and .273 as a Pinch Hitter
  5. QUOTE(Damen @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 10:17 AM) Which doesn't make a lick of sense since Iguchi hits righties well. Well, then putting him down in the order might help since there is a chance he will be in more RBI and power situations.
  6. QUOTE(joeynach @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 09:52 AM) Yuck thats awful. That 1,2,3 combo is a combined .225 against LHP. Ozzie specifically said Erstad would bat #2 against Righties. I highly doubt he would put that 1,2,3 combo out there against a Lefty. Plus, we usually use about five lineups a week so I'm sure there will be plenty of variations. We also now have Toby Hall to do the catching against some southpaws and he hit .292 against lefties last year.
  7. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Mar 14, 2007 -> 01:20 PM) I'm gonna have to ask you not to go and throw simple facts into this disillusioned argument mister. It's true that those numbers are facts but obviously there are hundreds of players who started poorly and became great, hundreds of players who started great and turned poor, and hundreds of players who started poor and stayed poor. With BA, the bottom line is we don't know. Yes he hit better for a couple months but then he tanked the last one. His Inconsistency is what makes him hard to judge. Hopefully he gets enough time to develop into the good every day player he has the potential to be. But if he makes the team and lays an egg the first month, I think he's pretty much screwed here. The manager here doesn't seem willing to have him develop at the major league level.
  8. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 14, 2007 -> 12:51 PM) Well I haven't read through every thread in PHT about Brian lately so I haven't seen your points, whatever. Nobody has to think Brian is going to be a star and not many do, but that's not the point anyone is trying to make here. The fact of the matter is, Brian is the best option we have in Center by far and away. You can say that the reason Ozzie doesn't like Brian is because he sucks, well explain to me why in the 2nd half of the season when Brian and Mack were virtual equals at the plate that Mack still got so many damn ab's when he's about a million times inferior defensively. Something is wrong with that picture. Ozzie cost us a good amount of games last year because he has something against Brian, and that's just unacceptable, period. I don't want to start another argument here but the reason why Mack and BA had about the same number of at bats was because Ozzie would not play BA against pitchers (especially righties) that he though BA would have troube with. TO ME, this is why Ozzie has a problem with BA. He feels that even though he only played him against pithcers he should fare well against, he could only hit .257. Also, BA finished up the year with a going 13 for 69 (.188 Avg) in the last month with 1 HR and RBI and 1 for 15 in the last week. Not exactly numbers that would get Ozzie excited about BA as the opening day starter next year. In all reality, Ozzie may have been hurting BA by not playing him consistently but I am just trying to think like the manager here (if that's possible)
  9. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 03:37 PM) And one year of Brian Anderson doesn't give you enough info to say Rowand would be better. The only way to compare would if they entered the league within a year of each other. Chris Young hasn't shown anything at the major league level yet either. Let's decide at the end of a couple of years to see who got the better end of THAT deal. I agree. We really don't know about Anderson's offensive abilities quite yet. I'm just concerned about another year of sub .200 hitting for several months from the CF spot in our lineup.
  10. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 03:18 PM) talent, skills, the fact that Aaron Rowand is at best a 4th of'er. If you are going to use the phrase "at best," that statement is not true. At best, Aaron can hit over .300 with 20 HR's, 30 Doubles, and an OPS around .900. Those are not 4th Of'er numbers. I'm not saying he will do it again, I'm just saying that at least Aaron has done it and could possibly do it again.
  11. It seems to me, Rowand's offensive abilities have been knocked quite a bit around here lateley. It doesn't look like Pods is going to be ready to start the season. So that leaves left field open for right now. If we don't pick up Rowand, we end up with Erstad and BA as regular starters. I would feel more comfortable with Rowand as an everyday starter then BA just because you pretty much know what you are getting with him. Look at his numbers: HR RBI BB SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS G AB R H 2B 3B 2001 4 20 15 28 5 1 .293 .385 .431 .816 63 123 21 36 5 0 2002 7 29 12 54 0 1 .258 .298 .394 .692 126 302 41 78 16 2 2003 6 24 7 21 0 0 .287 .327 .452 .779 93 157 22 45 8 0 2004 24 69 30 91 17 5 .310 .361 .544 .905 140 487 94 151 38 2 2005 13 69 32 116 16 5 .270 .329 .407 .736 157 578 77 156 30 5 2006 12 47 18 76 10 4 .262 .321 .425 .746 109 405 59 106 24 3 So, an average year for Aaron would be a .279 Avg, 16 HR, 61 RBI with a .780 OPS. That's not great but it's not terrible either. In the Second half of last year, BA hit .257 Avg with 3 HR, 13 RBI, and a .694 OPS. Couple with that the fact that you really don't know about BA yet. What if we go into the season with BA as an everyday starter and he hits like the first half of last year ( .192 Avg, .604 Ops)? Then our backup plan (without Rowand) would be Mack who everyone hated in the outfield last year. Bottom line, I would be for bringing A-Row back as long as we didn't have to give up a major bullpen guy (like a Jenks, Thornton, or MacDougal).
  12. QUOTE(hi8is @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 10:29 AM) is the game on mlb.tv today? Nope, not even on Gameday Audio today.
  13. Valido gets an infield single and an RBI, knocking in Rogo from third. 6-3 DBacks. Sox inning over, 2 runs on 3 hits. 6-3 DBacks going into the 6th
  14. Toby Hall gets his first White Sox hit, a double Rogo with an RBI Double, 6-2 DBacks
  15. Sox don't score in their half of the third, still 5 - 1 DBacks after 3
  16. Inning finally over, 9 men bat, 3 score, 5 - 1 Dbacks
  17. Broadway walks in another run. 4-1 DBacks. I should switch, the other game sounds like more fun
  18. Javy is out of the Sox/DBacks game. Top third, 1 out, Bases loaded after single, double, and walk by DBacks. Broadway is in
  19. Sox waste an error by Arizona and do not score. After two innings, 2-1 DBacks
