  1. also cooler than the players who run out of these events and don't bother to interact with fans at all...
  2. Who cares if the guy gets tipsy every once in a while in the off season.... Detroits star player with $160mm salary get hammered before must win games...Freddie brings it in big games and was a big part of us getting to the promise land in 2005, I don't mind him as the 5th starter right now at all.
  3. I have that same shirt for working out! Alexei representing!
  4. I wouldn't have left the 3B side if the BBQ Pulled Pork stand was there all along!! I was able to move closer to the plate a few sections a few years ago vs. not moving at all on the 3B side so I took the option to move closer to the plate, hopefully can get a few sections closer this year, in 116 now. Interesting notes that you guys didn't like being really close to the field, my wife preferes to be higher up in the rows but I sort of like the lower/middle section, we'll see what I get offered as I hadn't hear back yet, hopefully I do before everything gets taken, doh!
  5. Just checking in, I spoke to my ticket agent he said they were just starting to look at seat upgrades, based on my prior experience it seems later in the year so thought I would check in with what others have heard.
  6. Delgado was part of two of the biggest "loser" mets teams ever....Thome is an easy decision over Delgado, that being said I would prefer someone who is not nearing 40 and have a rotation at DH. How many singles will Thome hit off the wall in 2010?
  7. Players go to a) where they get paid the most B) where they could win a WS every year and c) close to family/home (a lessor consideration for most)....in Matsui's case we didn't fit any of the three criteria, we can/should win the AL Central each year but we are not in the Angels/Boston/NY league of WS contenders each year, we also don't pay top $$ to free agents so I don't think it is anything the Sox are doing wrong, I think they have been pretty smart of late and field a competitive team. Why go for a big $$ free agent who if it doesn't pan out cost you years of rebuilding, we don't have the ability to buy out our mistakes like LAx2/NYx2/BOS/Cubs, etc.
  8. Cubs will sign DeRosa after dumping Milty and eating his entire contract...and the Scrubs fans will be dancing on the streets!
  9. QUOTE (b-Rye @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 12:15 PM) I like this move a lot... I like Pods and think he did some great things for this team in his career but last year he was great and aweful. Great with .300+ AVG, game winning hits, stolen bases every now and then. Aweful with the dropped balls in the outfield, throwing to the wrong base, getting picked off (ALOT), not hitting in clutch situations. I think Pierre will be a great leadoff man and will swipe 60+ bases if he plays everyday.. Agreed, I like the deal, Pods had some of the best Sox moments last year and some of the worst...that being said when he got signed he was playing out of his mind and won us a # of games, if JD/CQ and some others would have picked it up in the 2nd half I think we could have made some noise, but you can't count on Pods carrying a team that is for sure!! I wish him luck though but I see him playing for 1yr contracts the rest of his career, I mean he was unemployed for a good chunk of last season. Juan Pierre is what Ozzie wanted so hopefully they work well together again and bring us to the post season. With the Tigers needing to dump salary the division is going to be there for the taking, I also think the Twins will be hurt by moving away from the Metrodome and will lose their homefield advantage.
  10. I think they raised them enough last year when the economy was tanking while most the rest of the owners didn't raise prices. Renewal rate will be interesting.
  11. maybe the hitting coach isn´t working with the guys well?
  12. What is also interesting is the playoff tickets cost ~50%+ of the total cost of season tickets.
  13. Nix hits more foul HRs along the left field line than anyone on the team, they should shift on him like Thome.
  14. As they are currently built we are underachievers but the team we started the year with was an ~.500 team (do you remember seeing Brent Lillibridge, Josh Fields and Brian Anderson in the lineup for a few weeks! So without being so bad early on in the year we would be in 1st and no one would be calling us underachievers.
  15. I would guess less Chicagoans relocate to our AL Central competitors cities (Detroit, Minny, CLE and KC) versus how many people from CLE and Minny moved to Chicago and attend Sox games rooting for their teams. I don't have any explanations for the nationals as I don't think they have many fans at all, maybe people figure their team will win that game or promotions are scheduled when they are in town (like the sox do with KC).
  16. Hopefully Detroit picked the wrong time to go to Boston with the Red Sox getting swept in NY.
  17. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 06:48 PM) What lifting did he get done? Usually we would be bidding for FAs that are coming off of a good year. We're giving 12 million dollars a year to a guy we HOPE and PRAY can get his OPS back to 860 or so. He hasn't been over 800 in a year and a half. I mean, f***, Aubrey Huff has a f***ing .917 OPS this year. Defense is nice and all, but we're talking 12 mil a year for a 830-860 OPS (hopefully) and solid CF defense. I'm sorry but that makes absolutely zero sense to me. Rios struggled for a long stretch after he had a nasty flu for like 3 weeks, took him a long time to recover and he was terrible in that stretch (killed my fantasy team). I like the move but that is a lot of dough, I don't think it makes much sense to pickup 07-08 contracts when the new baseball economy likely means that those deals are way too pricey. As every deal we shall see, at least we didn't give up any of the future. All I know is we need wins!
  18. QUOTE (SockMe @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 12:01 PM) I have onl seen a few other teams ticket prices but im wondering if the Sox have the most ridiculous ticket prices in baseball. I mean 38 for outfield is bad, in Pittsburgh I know there outfield seats are like 7 bucks and I sat on the first base side, 100 level for only 24. And 23 for 500 level, thats ridiculous Not even close, go to a Yankees or Red Sox or Cubs game. I had friends in from out of town and they wanted to go to a game (Sox were away) so we went to the bleachers in wrigley, had to pay $75/ticket (face was $40+) and FYI they sell about 3,000 more seats then there are bleacher tickets, I don't mind standing/boozing during a game but families of 6 were showing up 15 minutes before the first pitch and had nowhere to go. The Sox are reasonaly priced in my opinion. So are they going to drop season ticket prices next year? How about rolling back the increases they stuck on everyone this year? My guess is it depends on the playoffs, if they make it they will get everyone's deposits and increase tickets again, if they don't make it they will lower prices a bit or hold steady.
  19. if jenks doesn't blow 2 saves in this stretch (we sweep the rays) and have an amazing record against the playoff contenders.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 08:53 PM) For everyone saying if the White Sox made the playoffs, they would have no shot of winning anything, they took 3 of 4 from the Yankees and if they win tonight 4 of 5 from the Angels. I think they would have a chance, especially if Peavy can come back at full strength. My thinking exaclty, I was very nervous about this stretch in our schedule and we are far exceeding expectations especially with both teams coming in hot. While those teams are very good we don't need to fear them. We were 1-2 clutch hits away from taking down Tampa last year also. As far as the homer announcers go, no one is worse than the Rays announcers, I just moved down to Naples, FL and went out to watch the Rays/Sox game (a few weeks ago the one where Upton misplayed a liner over his head and cost them the game) the guys were harping about a very borderline "ball" called the batter before the error and saying the umps stole the game. How about your CF who made a terrible error and if he makes that play the borderline call doesn't cost you a run. Was like Bartman getting blamed for A Gonzolez's botched double play. I like hawk for what he is, if you don't like his style so be it but as a Sox fan I like him and he has great baseball sayings, other guys are too "even" and "bland".
  21. Who cares lets win the division get Peavy healthy and then steamroll everyone in the playoffs! I am drinking the juice baby!
  22. Does anyone think the sox sign Contreras to a cheap contract + incentives for an insurance policy next year? (ie. the Colon of 2010) I wouldn't mind keep JC for one year if it is an inexpensive option, would be a good insurance policy.
  23. QUOTE (longshot7 @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 05:25 PM) But isn't a Halladay/Buehrle-anchored rotation almost as good as the Johnson/Schilling one the Dbacks had in 2001? Wouldn't that be enough to put us over the top, the future be damned? Last I saw MB was giving up 8 runs to the .500 twins so no, I don't think that is the same, and I definitely don't see us reaching the world series with Fields at 3B and Nix at SS. Giving up too much future in that deal.
  24. QUOTE (longshot7 @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 05:20 PM) What if you get a World Series title in the next three seasons? Would that make it worth it? Ummm, how many titles do the Blue Jays have and they have had halladay for 14 years, seeing as we have so many MLB ready infielders in our minor league system I am sure we could replace the entire left side of our infield no problem. And Halladay isn't that much better than Gavin, especially since you are only getting 1.5 years out of him at a high price, the only good news is he comes off the books for the 2010 free agency year which is flush with stars.
  25. QUOTE (DC23MVP @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 04:27 PM) I think that a Floyd, Beckham, and Alexei for Halladay deal is pretty good for us, but I don't think we need to do it. We'd have a whole at 3B and at SS that would be hard to fill, and I think it wouldn't be worth it. Please turn in your crazy pills and do some research on market value for ace pitchers with 1.5 years left on their contract. Gavin, plus some decent minor league talent should get that done.
