  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 10:36 PM) That would be remarkably low. It wasn't anywhere near that after the 2007 debacle. The economy wasn't in a debacle in 2007 either, I think the current economy is bad enough to convince 40-50% of season ticket holders to not renew, or at least to downgrade their package (maybe go from full to partial ST holder). Only more reason for the Sox to try to win the division to maintain the ST holder fanbase.
  2. I agree on this BS comment, and the money is there especially if they were looking at that terrible Peavy contract that no other teams in baseball have been able to work out a way to absorb it. The $50/ticket price on the Dodgers day game was ridiculous, and the 11% markup overall this year was JR and company pissing in the eye of the fans who were locked in on the playoff tickets in 2008. The real projection they need to worry about is that I bet season ticket holder retention next year will probably be closer to 50-60% so they will have a lot more tickets to sell in 2010.
  3. If you can get him cheap enough for 1-yr it makes sense, he can replace Colon's current spot. I see Contreras as a guy who would stay here for less as I think he needs to be in a comfort zone to perform at his best. At the same time might as well wait a few months to see if this continues before offering anything.
  4. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 09:38 PM) As stated before, the LAD's series was empty because: A) the idiots upstairs decided to make it a premium game B:) it was a mid week series right before the cubs series. Is it really hard to figure that out? Ditto, day game should have been regular price not premium. Frankly they should sell all mid-week/thursday day games at a discount to regular.
  5. we will compete for the division but not be good 10 games over .500 wins the division this year... but we (a) can't beat the Pirates (B) blow 5-1 leads in the 8th inning after our pitcher has a 1-hitter through 7 © our LF MVP candidate is likely out for the year (d) rely on numerous guys on the wrong side of 35 and likely to get injured (e) breaking in 3-5 rookies who are going to get significant ABs I don't think the Sox need to "blow up" the team but anyone not in the plan 3-5 years out who has value should be traded. Lets retool with some young talent and then get some good free agents with the extra cash. I think the Sox will have a big problem if they just dump salary and don't bring in some seasoned talent to play with the young studs, that would devastate season ticket sales which I bet will fall off a cliff after this year if we finish .500 or worse.
  6. I don't boo Wise, but there are some frustration boos that he gets from me. He is way better than Lillibridge.
  7. Well even if we get Peavy, KW should not be impressed with the team he has given Sox fans this year (especially after jacking up ticket prices in a terrible economy). This has to be on pace to be the worse loss the sox have ever had?
  8. I wouldn't trust anything a San Diego newspaper says!!
  9. If Peavy was speaking to Linebrink last night this deal has to be imminent and it doesn't make any sense for the Sox to keep the offer on the table after he pitches tomorrow. I expect a yes/no by the end of the day.
  10. Peavy has been a ninny about getting traded the entire time, on 670 they said he wants to go to ATL since he grew up in Alabama. Personally, I don't think Peavy will be that successful in the AL and out of his home park in San Diego, the Padres can't ask for too much since (a) he has been on the market for a year with no takers and (B) they need to just hope someone takes on his salary. The Sox need a quick decision so their offer doesn't get used by other teams to step up, it is a quick take it or leave it. Peavy is also scheduled to start against the cubs tomorrow. We still have too many holes to fill for Jake Peavy to be a cure-all but it is a step in the right direction, and I will take Peavy to replace Vazquez any day! In the meantime lets keep winning.
  11. I think the outrage would be much less if we weren't watching Lillibridge/Pods, if those two got a ticket out of town with Jerry Owens people would be a bit more calm but when you have those two in a lineup and turn on the game you figure you have little shot of winning, I put equal blame on Ozzie for sure. Also I don't buy that the sox will spend this upcoming offseason, they are building their cash reserves this year so Reinsdorf can distribute the profits if the next few years are lean, I also expect a sub .500 finish will cut the season ticket base by 33% (if not more) which will then be a self-fulfilling prophecy and KW/JR can say they had foresight.
  12. I think I am making a personal decision to not watch future games in which Pods or Lillibridge are playing, it just isn't worth it to punish myself by watching this crap and getting all pissed off.
  13. ahhhhhhh....the legend of scott podsednik....speed kills!!!
  14. No doubt Pods will cost more runs in the field than he contributes with his bat.
  15. If we are going to put Pods in RF with s***ty defense wouldn't we be better with Barry Bonds signed to a cheap contract, he can at least hit and draw some walks, would at least make it amusing and not in a look at how bad Pods is amusing. And he is a backup to Thome at DH.
  16. Oh wait, once Dewayne Wise comes back we will be a powerhouse.
  17. It is just pathetic that the sox can't get better OFs than Podsednik and Lillibridge, I think we need to start a season ticket holder write in campaign or something because it is just ridiculous to have such crap on the MLB team when the fans fill the park and paid the 10% increase in ticket prices to get rewarded with a team that is substandard.
  18. we don't need any more injuries, seems like the rangers always outplunk us 3:1 (at best).
  19. nice to see our AAA team playing on Sunday night baseball.
  20. CQ!! Could have used one or two of these HRs vs. the royals. We play well in DET.
