Not a lot of infielders of quality. Looks like the entire cubs bullpen are free agents after this year outside of Marmol. Also a lot of highly paid guys in steep decline always interesting to see which of those guys can put up a few more productive years maybe on the cheap. SP depth doesn't look that good to me, outside of CC most of the top guys are injury risk or really old, Garland probably the most attractive outside of CC unless you take Sheets health risk. Dempster is clearly going to get overpaid by someone.

I will be satisfied with a split this series with our injuries hopefully healing, we are pretty thin right now especially with Swish/Konerko not doing anything. Lets get the first one out of the way tonight.

Twins have easiest remaining schedule in the AL...white sox in middle of the pack. last night, the game was written off down to last strike and then whammo...was my favorite game of the year (glad I TIVO'd the game when my GF had me watch something else for a bit.)

If yankees make playoffs A-Rod will win no doubt...it is a popularity contest and CQ is still fairly unknown. Or it will go to hamilton with all the media love he has gotten this year. CQ would really need to turn it on the last two months to leave no doubt. Lets just win the division though, eh! I am sick of the shaving cream pie's, it is getting old and is not original, think of something new at least.

Key to the game was clearly me getting pissed and turning off MLB audio just to check the score again and find it is 8-7 just in time to hear Qs bomb. Big win! Paulie and Juanny coming through in the big inning also...would be nice if we can get the dotel/linebrink/jenks train working again!

Shocking how good our record has been since captain can't make contact returned...the 12 games vs. KC/Tex were supposed to give us some breathing room.

Richard did everything the sox could ask, defense definitely made it much harder for him.

I didn't get one...apparently I pay too much in taxes already for them to give some back! On the positive side I will have to pay more next year to cover the extra interest on our deficit...

This has to be considered a good trade by the cubs the only thing they lose is a bit of depth but with their payroll they can sign whoever they want in the offseason to replace Gallagher. Murton/Patterson were never going to be full time guys. Why the A's would include Gaudin, that just doesn't make sense, they could have moved him into Harden's spot in the rotation and put gallagher in their BP. So the Cubs get 1.5 years of two pretty decent pitchers for a couple of guys taking up their final roster spots. The only spots you would want to improve the Cubs really is a solid #2 pitcher and bullpen depth and they accomplished both while not giving up anything on the current roster. That being said the Cubs are very injury prone (Sori, Edmonds, A. Ram, Zambrano (usually minor injuries), Harden) and their depth is a bit less now but I think it is definitely worth it and a good trade for them. I see the Cubs placing Marshall over Marquis by the end of the year.

Other thoughts... Alexei is frickin awesome, huge pickup by KW and average is up to .300 (wasn't it .190 about three weeks ago). I made the mistake early on of telling my fiance that we could leave early if the sox were winning by more than 7, she took me up on it, of course it was already 10:15 by the end of the 7th, but I don't like leaving early.
