  1. Per Baseball Reference most comparable players to Buerhle and Javy historically/statistically speaking. Ironically Thome's highest correlated player is Jose Canseco. Hopefully neigher of them turn into Mark Mulder (which is a sad story for a good guy, hopefully he bounces back) MOST COMPARABLE TO BUERHLE Similar Pitchers View in Pop-up Compare Stats Teddy Higuera (955) La Marr Hoyt (953) Fred Hutchinson (950) Mark Mulder (944) Roy Halladay (944) Chris Carpenter (940) Rick Reed (938) C.C. 2. with all the negativity on Javy last year I forgot over the off-season how good he looked down the stretch...some agonizing losses for sure. I think it is important for the sox not to have a total youth movement in the staff over the next 2-3 years so we will need some consistency. Lets see Gooch and JD signed!!
  3. serious action today...everyone has been deprived this winter eh?
  4. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Feb 13, 2007 -> 11:45 PM) Double that is correct you are row #1! QUOTE(The Critic @ Feb 14, 2007 -> 11:30 AM) Question: do the rows in section 152 begin with numbered rows or lettered rows? I got section 152, row 1 for a 1/2 price Monday, so I'm wondering if I'm in the first row or the 4th or 5th. Thanks! Let me try that again, I have confirmed with the sox that the rows have been renumbered you are in the front row!
  5. Coop was on with Mike North this morning I caught a few minutes (was running late for work) - told an interesting story about F. Garcia before Game 4 of the WS...basically Garcia got up in front of everyone on the bus and told them that they didn't need to worry about a game 5, and that warming up before game 4 he could tell that he was going to have a great game - was pretty vague about all the young guys, very PC, said they all have a chance they all have talent as they were drafted very high - noted that haeger threw very well in September and his track record with the sox gives him a plus, he won't be judged solely on performance in AZ as the weather doesn't bode well for his knuckler. that is all I can remember maybe others can add to this on a side note Mike North had a terrible introduction, trying to make a terrible joke that coop nor myself could follow, and it sounds like he is getting canned from the score but I have been out of town on vacation so this may be old news.
  6. I voted for baseball, I think it captures much more of the city and makes chicago summers the best in the country. I was pretty surprised that the city wasn't crazier for the bears. I think the '85 bears were obviously huge and won over the whole city but a big part of that was the lack of any championship sports teams for so long before them. I live on the near north side and when the sox won the world series it was amazing that all of the bars were full and people were going fricking nuts when the sox won...and this was in supposed cubs fan territory. Personally for me I am a bears fan but I am much more passionate of a white sox fan. So while everyone is a bears fan I would say that Chicagoans are more passionate fans to their baseball teams. As evidenced by the white sox world series championship and the yearly Cubs/Sox rivalry.
  7. Damn, I will be on vacation on the 12th...I guess i could try to have my brother call in for me...
  8. Both sides try to use the media to their advantage and get their own spin. Players will always say "I want to be here, etc." or "It is up to the team to make me a fair offer".... while clubs can only really pay up or try to tarnish someone's image, etc. I think KW has done a good job in the past of making fair offers and letting players know early on what his goals are etc., did anyone think we would renew garland and the count last year, I thought KW did a great job early on of letting both of these guys know he wasn't afraid to cut them loose if they were going to be unreasonable...he is trying the same tactic this year... only problem is that IMHO Buerhle and Crede both want to maximize $$s and won't give any form of discount.
  9. unfortunately I was at 2 of those blown saves last year, one was due to a thornton lead-off walk against KC when he was left in the game. I just worried the few times when Jenks control was off and he had to reduce velocity to get it over...Jenks is the least of our worries this year though.
  10. Well comcast sucks also...I considered switching..but DirectTV compresses their HD signal so you don't get the best HD quality regardless so don't blow your checkbook on a new DLP or Plasma only to push DirectTVs signals through it. the web TV quality was so/so I think it might be painful to watch a whole game on a big screen, better used for @ work purposes.
  11. my mom does that also, she sees a sale and just buys everything...it is of course a nice jesture but when you want something specific hey that is what you want... That is why stores have sales, many people can't help themselves. I am going to stop by and see if I can get an iguchi jersey for my girlfriend...(she doesn't care if it is up to game specs)
  12. I am guessing most people on the waiting list don't want the 17th row of the upper deck which were the best available that came up. Also split packages don't include playoff options now which really reduces any motivation to purchase season tix.
  13. I agree with a wait and see approach by the Sox, if MB post a 4.5+ ERA the first half it doesn't make much sense to give him a huge contract, at the same time his trade value diminishes as the season progresses. If we are going to give out huge contracts we might as well try to trade for Santana or Zambrano. I think the current market is off-kilter, the reality is that half of the teams in the league can't even afford to pay their ace $15mm/year.
  14. I was very surprised by this move but am holding off over-reacting, want to see what else KW has planned.
  15. I am curious to see how the sox season ticket sales are going this year, word is there was a 97% retention rate this year. Lets see how it shakes out on sox talk. I have my deposit down!
  16. Would hate to see Joe go but this deal makes some sense, my only concern is that if you put Figgins in CF and Fields at 3B I don't see that making us much better "now"...which clearly is our best window for winning...I guess if the cash saved allows us to find a top LF as well then it would be okay... the sox are clearly not going to spend big bucks on any free agents this off-season and will surely be using trades to facilitate their goals.
  17. Sox have plenty of money to spend - no buy outs (ie Frank/Everett) $4mm - new lux boxes $5mm - est 3mm in attendance next year Should easily hit $120mm next year and keep the pressure on everyone, keep the cubs down and keep moving the TV/Radio/Media ratings, if the sox let off the gas they can quickly become a middle of the pack team again. Yes we were 3rd in the division last year but I don't think we were "average" by any means, maybe underperformed. I do think that many season ticket holders will try to pair up or dump their packages this off-season, time will tell. I would bet 50% of the "new" season ticket holders were counting on revenue from playoff ticket sales to cover some of their cost.
  18. not surprised that renewals are 95% as everyone had to put in their playoff deposits...will be interesting to see how much demand their is for tickets early next year... If you didn't get a "box" and are a full season holder I would for sure call your rep.
  19. Got mine yesterday, I am a full-season holder
  20. Would rather win the division with 2.2mm in attendance... Didn't season ticket holders have to put non-refundable deposits on their playoff tickets which are applied to next year's season tix, effectively they are locked in aren't they? That should keep retention high.
  21. Mariotti should call out ESPN for having a "Breaking News" headline and live link to the game then also eh?....
  22. QUOTE(sin city sox fan @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 05:21 PM) Screw that....we taking brooms to Oakland! We still have more road games than Minny, 3 in Minny, so we don't have an edge...our remaining schedule is also sigfinicantly harder than Minny, we need to go 11-5 the rest of the way to have a shot, Detroit .600 3 0 3 - 2/3 Minnesota .590 0 3 3 - 2/3 Oakland .569 0 3 3 - 2/3 Seattle .479 4 0 4 - 3/4 Cleveland .476 0 3 3 - 1/3 That is 10-6, which is going to make it real close, the final series vs. minny should be interesting. If KC can take 4/6 from Detroit I think we will both pass Detroit.
