Toughest Athlete?
White Sox Fan For Life replied to LowerCaseRepublican's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 11:18 PM) If your talking wrestlers, can anyone beat the grittiness of Mankind Mick Foley? I agree with you on that part that! Mick Foley had his ear torn off in a hard core match in Japan which at that match the ropes were made out of barbed wire! QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 03:30 PM) Foley was amazing in that match. I still can't believe that he asked to be thrown off the top of the cell. And lest we forget, losing an ear in Germany after getting stuck in the ropes + then deciding to go to the PPV and win the belts instead of surgery to attempt to get it attached. The powerbomb on concrete. There's so many instances to choose from there. It was Germany! I thought it was Japan. -
Hi everyone on sox talk! I was hoping if someone or anybody could help me out! You see in the month of April I had saw someone with a little replica poster of Broke Back Mountain which was made into a parody of the Cubs two screwed up starters Prior and Wood. Instead of saying Broke Back Mountain it said Broke Arm Mountain. I was wondering if anyone who reads this post if they could post that pic on this thread.

Official Cheer Frank Thomas Tomorrow Thread
White Sox Fan For Life replied to GoRowand33's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Soxbadger @ May 22, 2006 -> 12:57 PM) If I was going Id give Frank a standing O. I am sure that you would give Frank a standing Ovation! Especially reading all your other replies on this thread and how loyal you are to Frank! I wish that you would be going to the game and taking the place of a fan who is not willing to give Frank the ovation he deserves. -
Official Cheer Frank Thomas Tomorrow Thread
White Sox Fan For Life replied to GoRowand33's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ May 21, 2006 -> 03:02 PM) sox fans, please give him the standing ovation he deserves tomorrow I am going to the Game tonight! I will definitely give him a standing Ovation! Especially after everything he has done for the White Sox organization! Frank Thomas was my favorite player while growing up watching the White Sox! -
I chose Iguchi's play because his was a close call and the ball didn't go into foul territory, so that means that his play was do or die for the White Sox. Don't get me wrong Joe Crede's play that he did yesterday was great even though I was at the game and for Iguchi's play too.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 08:01 PM) I could have have had him, but I opted for guys like Brad Wilkerson and Jeff Francouer instead. My team sucks balls. I could have told you that before the season started, Francouer is on his sophmore slump. Wilkerson never impressed me.

Mench On A Torrid Power Streak
White Sox Fan For Life replied to hammerhead johnson's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 10:15 PM) I remember when Thome did it with the Phillies. I believe the last person to hit a homer in eight straight was Herbert Perry. I may be mistaken, though. I dont even think perry had 8 games in a row with a hit -
QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 24, 2006 -> 08:38 AM) You have to quit hanging out in bars How's our paper coming along? BTW, I keep my picture in my profile, in case anyone wants to look I don't drink. LOL Now I want to change my whole paper now since I read it all over again and againg. So I am trying to decide what I should actually put in my paper. Do you have any suggestions?

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Apr 24, 2006 -> 01:57 AM) I'll keep my eyes peeled. Hey I already met Steff and she said I am hysterical because I shouldn't take everything so personal on soxtalk. I met Knightley, Soxpranos, and a guy who used to be a member of soxtalk called Anthrax.
-
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 23, 2006 -> 12:13 PM) LOL, do you ever look at peoples avatars? You are one of the few who use your own picture as their avatar. Yeah I look at other people's avatars on soxtalk. Some create their own avatar others have avatars in the picture of their favorite sox player. I only have my picture of myself as my avatar in case someone from soxtalk recognizes at a baseball game.
-
QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 22, 2006 -> 06:00 PM) Ahhh, the avatars don't always match up, I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that Steff is not a b**** slapping Pokemon . . . But why would I have a picture of a person that I do not know as my avatar?
-
QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 21, 2006 -> 09:23 AM) I'd love to see that on the scoreboard around the 9th inning of a win. And, just to be fair, the Cubs could do it on their scoreboard. LOL!

QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 21, 2006 -> 09:03 AM) Not a snowballs chance in hell... I agree to a certain extent.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 21, 2006 -> 09:01 AM) This may be the best homework thread since a father was helping his daughter I'm guessing as a group we could never, ever, write a thesis as a group. You never know we could all try to be on the same understanding when we write the paper! LOL Who is suppose to be my father? Huh.

Why are you so fustrated?
-
QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 21, 2006 -> 08:36 AM) Remember that cheeta... Chester.. that did the Cheeto's commercials..? And he did that head shaking thing and made that "ieeeieeeieeee" noise...? I just did that.. That made no sense to this thread.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 21, 2006 -> 08:10 AM) Well, that would make me NOT an atheist, if I believed in a higher power. They are gonna laugh anyways, it doesnt matter to me. I thought this was your paper we were discussing? Well you never know about those atheists because even though they don't believe in a higher power they still use the word "God." It is my paper that we are discussing here! But right now I was just trying to make you understand where I was coming from. It seems like you like to retaliate back on everything that is wrong about my thread or something in that sort.
-
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 21, 2006 -> 07:50 AM) You are getting confused, really confused here. And no, I am not an atheist, not even close. I am certainly not speaking for all atheists, only the few who poked fun at me a little bit in the two threads you have going(Beltin Bill and someone else, I cant rememeber.) They are just "laughing" at me on basic principle of their belief(or lack thereof) in any sort of a God or higher power. Curses dont exist to atheists, because curses imply a higher power. I understand that you are trying to relate the issue to make me see your viewpoint, but I see it as opening a can of worms that I dont even want to think about. My teacher comment was meant for you to try and understand that in an argument like this, you cant just change gears and present a whole other topic to make your argument make sense to me. Im not going to even discuss it because I feel strongly about it, and I dont want to talk about it. If your teacher came at you with an opposite viewpoint in her criticisms of your rough draft, you couldnt throw that abortion example at her, right? So why would you tell me? May be I am getting confused but I do have some kind of understanding to some of the things that you are saying. I was just asking you if you are an atheists because you said some of them were laughing at you. So I assume that they were laughing at another atheists because you believe in something of a greater power! I know I wouldn't throw the abortion example at her because I agree with you that would be getting off hand. But this is not my paper this is just another forum to talk baseball with other threads that don't necessarily have to do with baseball.
-
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 21, 2006 -> 07:30 AM) I know you prefaced the statement with "I know this is off-topic", but it still doesnt apply to the conversation. Baseball curses and Abortion are not topics that you can move back and forth from to prove your point. Furthermore, I dont want to discuss even a hypothetical situation dealing with abortion. Do you think you can put that hypothetical into your paper and it will make sense to your teacher? You also had stated this one time in this thread I wouldnt write this paper. There are too many intangibles, there is no concrete proof, it is based on belief, which you dont have. Its easy to say "I dont believe" This quote I was trying to relate it to another controversial issue hoping that you would understand where I was coming from. So I was trying to make you understand my point of view not my teacher! There is no need for me to mention abortion in my paper when I am trying to make you understand why I mentioned it in the first place. So are you saying that you are an atheist too? Is that why some people are laughing at you because you actually believe in a higher powere when it comes to baseball?
-
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 08:01 PM) you arent offending, you are straying from the topic. To me, Curses just enforce my romanticized view of the sport of baseball. I love the sport, and sometimes it just seems like there are greater forces at hand. LOL, all the atheists on the site are probably pointing and laughing at this post, but I am being honest. I even mentioned that I was straying from the topic to try and relate another issue to what you were saying. But unfortunately, again we never really understand each other again. Why would all the atheist laugh at this point?

QUOTE(Beltin'Bill @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 11:34 PM) I get really caught up in discussions like this and think WSFFL is making a big mistake in using anecdotes and fan polls as a basis for his argument. You called me a DUDE! What does my avatar look like? What does the name on my paper say? Well for starters I chose to talk about this to baseball fans so that I can get their opinion and try to understand their point of view. Also you guys have been such a great help for me I am getting new ideas and thinking about revising the whole thing.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 07:54 PM) The 2004 Red Sox are strong evidence that there's no such thing as curses in sports, given that they "overcame" one of the greatest curses/myths in the history of professional sports. I'm not sure if the Shoeless Joe/Black Sox curse is as well-documented, but the 2005 Sox offer even further evidence that there's no such thing as curses in the realm of professional sports. You can write a halfway decent paper on this topic. You just have to do a much better job of formulating your argument. Thank you very much for your opinion.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 07:51 PM) probably because me and you are both hard headed on what we are trying to say, and there hasnt been one time when either of us got personal. Those tend to be the more interesting threads that I find. Well we are kind of getting really caught up in the situation.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 07:46 PM) Listen, if you want to talk about curses and thier validity, thats fine. But you are bringing up yet another thing that has nothing to do with curses, and even moreso, is a hot button topic. If you want to start a flame war about abortion, head on over to the Filibuster and I will see you later. If you want to talk about the matter at hand, feel free. No I am just trying to show some correlation about how two things can relate to one statement of what you said oh it is easy to say there is no curse without any intangible proof. That is all no need to offend you.
