Last time out Lucas pitched against the Twins (8/31) where he went 5 innings and gave up 4 runs (2 ER). We NEED Gio to go deep in the game to help give a depleted bullpen some rest. Bubic last pitched against the Sox (8/30), went 5.1 innings, and gave up 2 runs.

Dunning (0 - 0, 2.89 ERA) vs Singer (1 - 3, 5.19 ERA). Last time Sox faced Singer (8/29) he went 5.0 innings and gave up three ER. Sox ultimately lost the lead when Burdi imploded and gave up 5 ER in the 7th inning. Final score 9 - 6. Sox lose. Dunning will be making his third career start where he will be looking for his first career win. Last time Dunning pitched (8/30) he threw 5 perfect innings against this same Royals team. Sox won that one 5 - 2 off the bat of La Pantera’s walk off 3 run bomb.

Lost an important series against the Twins, but big stretch of baseball here to rack up some wins. Cease (4 - 2, 3.00 ERA) vs Duffy (2 - 2, 4.11 ERA). Last time we faced Duffy (8/28) he gave up 4 runs (3 earned) in 5.2 innings. There was some 9th inning Tom Foolery that tied the game, but was ultimately won by a Grandal walk-off homer.

Let’s just be real... Rick Renteria isn’t going anywhere. They will say this was his first year with talent on a team and was able to “lead” them to a playoff appearance. They will also credit the close relationships and clubhouse chemistry to his temperament, a lot of these players view him as a father figure. I’m not defending him, just being honest with expectations moving forward.
