I saw THE LUCKY ONE. It's really bad. Not quite as bad as DEAR JOHN, but that's actually a big problem. DEAR JOHN is at least watchable, because you can sit there in awe as one of the worst movies in history unspools before your eyes. That's at least semi-entertaining. THE LUCKY ONE is just good enough to be incredibly boring. I also watched this movie called STAR WARS. It's pretty good. You should check it out sometime.

Petricka had what was easily his worst outing of the season tonight. He gave up 5 earned runs and another 3 unearned runs in just 3.2 innings. He had 5 strikeouts, but gave up 7 hits and walked 3. That puts his record at 1-2 and his ERA at 8.31.

Petricka got his first win of season yesterday. He gave up 4 runs on 6 hits in 5.1 innings, with a walk and 5 strikeouts. That puts his record at 1-1, with a 6.75 ERA. Also, his final word on the Ninja Turtles movie: "I understand wanting to make another movie cuz the turtles are awesome but changing where they came from is questionable."

If you're on the fence about CABIN IN THE WOODS because it's been sitting on the shelf, or because it looks like a dumb formulaic horror movie, just go and see it, like right now. I know that the whole MGM fiasco was a big part of its delay, but if there were other reasons too, I can only imagine that they were because the studio didn't know what to do with it. It's very uniquely awesome, and it's impossible to convey how awesome it is without spoiling the movie. Also, if you've come this far and still don't know anything about the movie, good. Don't watch any trailers or read any reviews. Just see it as soon as you can before someone spoils it.

I saw it last night, and oh my God. It really is as good as they say. It's got a lot of really big surprises in it, not the least of which is that it's a comedy. Best movie of the year so far (yes, better than THE HUNGER GAMES).

I watched AMERICAN REUNION. It was pretty good. Definitely better than the last two, but it still suffers from really long, unfunny sequences built around unfortunate misunderstandings. I guess the first one did this a bit, but only in moderation. It was fine-tuned. The other movies, including this one, seem to want to push it as far they can. But I'm so busy feeling awkward for the characters that I don't find it to be at all funny. I did like the stuff which kind of dealt with getting older and how things change with time. It was a nice bookend to the series. Go see it if TITANIC and THE HUNGER GAMES are sold out.

Petricka got the loss tonight. He went 4 innings, giving up 3 runs on 5 hits, with 4 walks and 5 strikeouts. Also, since he's a fan of TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES, I asked him on Twitter what he thought about the Turtles being aliens instead of mutants. He wants to see a trailer first, but his initial reaction is that he's "scared for them."
-
As noted in the other thread, Petricka is starting the season opener on Friday.

Petricka has been assigned to Winston-Salem, where he will be a starter. Also, he liked THE HUNGER GAMES and didn't win the Mega Millions jackpot.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 1, 2012 -> 01:32 AM) Has anyone seen "Case de mi Padre," the current Ferrell movie where he's speaking in Spanglish for most of it? As far as the best movies for 2012 so far (there's no way I will agree with THE HUNGER GAMES for that category): The Lorax 21 Jump Street The Chronicle The Grey Red Tails Friends with Kids The Secret World of Arietty Well, that could be right. Unless you included some of the movies that officially came out in December, 2011 and stretched into the New Year, the list is pretty bleak. There haven't even been that many movies that were even 100% "entertaining": Safe House, Journey 2, Act of Valor, Contraband and Project X had their moments, but none of them were worth the price of admission. I don't know if you have to include TITANIC 3-D on the list, technically it's NOT a new movie. Out of that list, the only ones I've seen are: 21 Jump Street Chronicle The Grey Red Tails Safe House Act of Valor I enjoyed 21 JUMP STREET, CHRONICLE, and (ironically) ACT OF VALOR. But the only one I'd watch again is RED TAILS. To me, THE HUNGER GAMES and HAYWIRE stand way above anything else so far. But then again, it's only April, and this year looks very promising. TITANIC 3D doesn't count, or else that would clearly be the winner. However, I will say that the 3D conversion is excellent. If I didn't know better, I would've said they shot it in 3D.

I watched WRATH OF THE TITANS. Way better than the first one, but still pretty bad. The 3D is actually quite good though, all things considered.
-
Well, what else has there been this year? There's Haywire, and then there's, um... Well there's Haywire. And as much as I love Haywire, The Hunger Games was better. Do I think it will be the best movie of the entire year? With Dark Knight Rises, Prometheus, and The Master yet to come, it better not be.
-
I saw The Hunger Games. I think it's the best movie of the year so far. And no, I'm not a teenage girl (although I have already purchased my tickets for Titanic). I also saw The Raid: Redemption. I thought it was pretty good, but was hoping for more, considering all the hype. I'm watching Wrath of the Titans tonight. Wish me luck!

Petricka has been sent down to the minor league camp.

I've actually been re-watching the entire playoff run from 05. In some ways, it's kind of depressing, because even if they win again, I can't imagine it possibly topping the high of that year.

I seem to remember someone ranking the radio teams a few years back. If I remember correctly, Rooney and Farmer were #2. At the time, I thought that was insane (Farmer drives me up the wall sometimes). But about a year ago, I got XM Radio. Listening to some of those announcers, especially in some of the smaller markets, is painful. I think we actually have it lucky.

EMPIRE is clearly the best of the franchise. As much as I love them all, I could watch EMPIRE every day and never get tired of it. Irvin Kershner is a much better director than Lucas, and Lawrence Kasdan is a much better writer. EMPIRE also had the Gary Kurtz influence, which I think is what's sorely lacking from the prequels. Kurtz was Lucas' conscience. He was the guy who had the balls to tell Lucas when he was making bad choices. Take that away, and even the most creative person in the world will lose his edge.

It took me a while to warm up to them, but now I like them quite a bit.

X2 First Class X-Men Last Stand Wolverine I watched STAR WARS: EPISODE I - THE PHANTOM MENACE in 3D. They did a pretty good job with it. The action sequences and landscapes look nice. Closeups are a bit of a problem. These converters need to tone it down when it comes to people faces. There's just not that much dimensionality if you're not in an extreme closeup. But on the whole, I'd recommend it. Just seeing a Star Wars movie on the big screen is worth it. I also saw SAFE HOUSE. That movie is a mess. It wants so badly to be a Bourne movie. Unfortunately, it lacks things like intelligence, a cohesive visual style, and an interesting narrative structure. So that leaves impossible to follow action sequences, and lots of people pointing guns at each other. Sorry, not enough to sustain 2 hours.

Is Peavy really considered to be the number 4 starter?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 9, 2012 -> 11:29 AM) I wouldnt use Knight and Day as my selling point, lol I've never understood why people don't like that movie. It's funny, has some good performances, and the action set pieces are choreographed exceptionally well. I've seen it twice, and it holds up. But if you take out Knight and Day, we're left with Walk the Line and 3:10 to Yuma, both of which were crap. So I don't know...
-
I hated the first Wolverine movie too, but this new one is from the writer of THE USUAL SUSPECTS and the director of KNIGHT AND DAY. That seems like a pretty competent combination. Still wish Darren Aronofsky would've stuck around, though.
-
I rewatched X-MEN: FIRST CLASS last night. It holds up pretty well. I'd say it's easily the best X-Men movie aside from X2. Matthew Vaughn has signed on to direct a sequel, which makes me happy. THE WOLVERINE seems to be shaping up nicely too. I like that they are willing continue multiple franchises in the same continuity but different time periods simultaneously.

And right after THE WALKING DEAD is the premiere of COMIC BOOK MEN, Kevin Smith's new reality show. If it's half as good as the podcast upon which it's based (TELL 'EM, STEVE-DAVE!), it will be awesome.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Feb 8, 2012 -> 06:43 PM) They should be call "throwaways" or "throwups". Weren't they supposed to wear the road versions of those a few years back? I think I read that the jerseys were all too small, so they just wore the caps instead.
