Jacob Steven Petricka RHP 6' 5"/195 lb. DOB: 6/5/88, Northfield, Minnesota Picked by the Sox in the 2nd round of the 2010 Draft (63rd overall). Signed for 540k. He was originally drafted by the Sox out of high school, but elected to go to college instead. He was also picked by the Yankees in 2009, but did not sign. He had Tommy John surgery when he was 18 years old, but seemed to improve after that. He attended Indiana State University, where he majored in business management. Last year, he played for Bristol, Kannapolis, and Winston-Salem. He had a combined record of 7-8 with a 3.65 ERA in 22 starts and 1 relief appearance. He gave up 114 hits, 46 earned runs, and 3 home runs in 113.1 innings. He had 99 strikeouts and 39 walks. He has a fastball in the upper 90's, but his curve and change-up need work. He's also developing a slider. Analysts seem to think he'll be a middle reliever. He was a Twins fan growing up. Based on his twitter account (@jacobpetricka), he was married in December. He likes CALL OF DUTY, TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES, and the Bible. Also, he sucks at fantasy football. He has received a non-roster invite to spring training. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Feb 4, 2012 -> 01:06 AM) Hmm, my sister suggested Haywire and I scoffed when I saw it had Channing Tatum and Antonio Banderas. Trailer looks pretty cool. Seems like a woman version of the Bourne movies. Yeah, imagine a Bourne movie by the guy who did TRAFFIC and CONTAGION. Soderbergh always goes for super realism, so HAYWIRE is essentially a globetrotting spy movie, but with incredibly believable action sequences. That's why he cast Gina Carano, who is apparently a mixed martial artist? He wanted her to be able to do all her own stunts, and to be completely convincing. And yes, it's her first movie, but she's really good. So is the rest of the cast too. I don't know, I can see not liking Tatum because he tends to be in really bad movies and because his neck is bigger than my thigh. But he's a good actor when he has something to work with. I think Banderas is just flat out great. But even if you don't like those guys, they're barely in it. Carano really carries the movie, and everyone else just kind of comes and goes. So yeah, go see HAYWIRE. I've seen it twice now, and the more I think about it, the more I like it. It's badass.

So is "Harrow's Way" a piece of music that is owned by the WWE? Also, is it available for purchase anywhere? The only other place I've ever heard it is over the DVD menu for NETWORK. SoxFan1, CHRONICLE is substantially better than THE GREY. Although, the best thing out right now is easily HAYWIRE. Soderbergh's the bomb.
-
I really like Zimmer's work in The Rock and M:I-2. Chronicle was okay. The format was interesting, but the limitations make setup difficult. It is a very long 84 minutes. The ending is pretty interesting though.

Looking over the roster, it seems that there will probably be about 4 guys on the team this year who weren't on the team for at least part of last year. That's fewer than I expected, but is it still a lot?

I finally saw DRIVE. I went from wanting to see it before it came out to not caring about it when it was out to thinking I really missed something when it was gone. After all that, I think my initial prediction of its quality accurate. It was okay. I can see why people are responding to it, but ultimately, the reasons why it's praised are the things I don't care about. I see why it's commended on technical level, but I'm left unmoved. On the plus side, it doesn't mess up my top ten list like I thought it might.
-
Sure, but my point is that the 1972 season wasn't really anything special. What is it that they're celebrating?
-
Didn't they say something a few years back about never wearing throwbacks from an era when they didn't make the playoffs (or something like that)? I like the idea of wearing retro uniforms on Sundays, and I also like these particular uniforms, but 1972 seems like an odd year to commemorate.

I watched THE PLAYER yesterday for the first time in years. That's truly one of the best movies ever made. I also watched KISS KISS BANG BANG again. I liked it a lot more the second time around.
-
I'd probably go with THE DESCENDANTS, but both are decent enough movies.
-
THE ARTIST is a decent enough movie. It really owes a lot to SINGIN' IN THE RAIN, and isn't nearly as good as that movie. But the gimmick works relatively well, and the dog's cute.
-
I'm really looking forward to RED TAILS. Lucas has been talking about making that movie for literally two decades. In the article, Lucas talks about wanting to make small experimental movies. He's been saying that for years too. He needs to get up on that. I also can't wait to see HAYWIRE. The last time a Lem Dobbs script was directed by Steven Soderbergh, we got THE LIMEY. That's straight up one of the best movies ever made. If HAYWIRE's half as good, we're in for a treat.

The Show is pretty much the only game I ever play. I read that there's a demo for this year's game on the MONEYBALL Blu-ray, but I haven't had a chance to check it out yet.

What are your 3 fav sports teams?

Based solely on MLB 11: THE SHOW, I think they are changing the grey jerseys slightly this year. If the game is to be believed, they are replacing the diamond patch on the sleeve with a black S-O-X patch.

"I love that duck." But I swear to god, if I hear the story about Ted Williams calling Norma to find out which way the wind's blowing at Fenway one more time, I may just have to stop watching Sox game altogether.
-
And then midway through the year, when his average drops to .217 and the fans turn on him, he can change it to "It's Hard Out Here For a Pimp," by Three Six Mafia. As for me, I'd go with "Ironside" by Quincy Jones, which is the music from KILL BILL that plays every time the Bride is about to get down to business. And if I were a relief pitcher, I'd use "Snake's Uniform" by Shirley Walker and John Carpenter from ESCAPE FROM L.A., which is a great 'gunslinger gearing up for battle' piece.
-
Are there really no pics of the Sox in action yesterday? I looked everywhere I could think of, and can't find anything.

Thank you very much!

Hello, Today I saw a guy wearing this really cool t-shirt. It was black with a black and grey Superman-type logo on the front, but the "S" was in the same font as the Sox logo. I asked him where he got it, and he said online at some place called "Tattoo Tees," which I could not find on the internet. He said it was also available at other stores in the area. Does anyone have any idea where I can find one of these things? Thanks.

I hate WGN broadcasts. It's like watching one big giant compression artifact.

I was told that the Sox will also be wearing their 1983 uniforms on Sunday. Can anyone confirm this?
