  1. Despite the fact that Contreras owns us, and you own Verlander, I am confident in a win. Why? Neifi freaking Perez is starting and batting 8th, with Neifi in our lineup how could we possibly lose?
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 19, 2006 -> 12:18 AM) Let me ask you this: are Tigers fans annoyed with Granderson's strike out issues? Are Chisox fans annoyed with Brian Anderson's offensive issues? I think they are similar players, trying to work through rookie struggles, Granderson is a bit more experienced and polished which led to his earlier success, but now pitchers have adjusted to him and he is struggling. It isn't just soft stuff away either (although that is his main problem) he just looks worn down and slow batspeed wise. As for Garcia...ugh, anytime a player tries to pass the buck onto his teammates it is not cool...
  3. Boston and New York seem to be doing a good job showing why they're scary (great hitting) and at the same time almost laughable as serious playoff contenders (terrible pitching). Mostly Boston of course, but Sidney Ponson and the Big Unit aren't too impressive either.
  4. Rogers had an excellent start against Cleveland as well. (gave up 3 in the first, then threw 6 shutout) He has faced three tough offenses in a row now and pitched pretty well. Granderson has slumped for the last month or so, mostly because pitchers have adjusted to him and are throwing him a steady diet of stuff low and outside. As for the k's/bbs...well yeah that is definitely our teams biggest weakness, I don't really care about striking out that much, but not drawing any walks is a big problem.
  5. I thought the sidearm pitcher throwing sidearm 'punches' was pretty humorous.
  6. LOL, Ordonez just completely butchered a fairly easy catch on an Ortiz flyball, leading to it just getting over the short fence for a 2 run homer. 3-1 Red Sox, but it really should be 1-1. Haha, he promptly leads off the next inning with a solo jack over the monster to make it 3-2. Clevlen with his third career homer, a two run shot over the green monster and out of the stadium. 4-3. Well, Verlanders curveball was nowheres near the strike zone tonight and he ended up walking 7! (Boston was smart enough not to swing at the fastball and other pitches, and force him to try and throw the curve for strikes) Fastball velocity was still 100 mph, so I guess he was just having a rough game, not fatigue... Now 5-4 boston in the top of the 7th.
  7. Polanco is a big loss defensively, and while I will miss his high contact rate offensively he has actually been pretty horrible: .294 .325 .359 .684 Also, since I wasn't around a belated congratulations to the White Sox for the sweep, Contreras was awesome and we made some dumb mistakes in the other games, which you simply can't afford to do against a great team like Chicago.
  8. Interesting lineups for both teams, Granderson has been awful versus lefties, as has Podsednik and both are leading off. Rogers did quite well his last start (6 shutout innings after giving up 3 inthe first) and I know Buehrle has been pitching better his last couple of starts as well, perhaps they will suprise us and have well pitched games today...
  9. Jermaine Dye is the best hitter on either team. I would say even among White Sox fans he is vastly underrated, while looking at the stats this year, Konerko is a bit overrated. (I would still take him over Casey/Shelton of course!)
  10. It was a bizarre game due to the series of errors, not just A-Rod's. As for the strike zone...well of course they're going to take the Yankees side, it's ESPN
  11. How dare he predict the team that's 8.5 games up might win 2 out of 3 The pitching matchups look pretty even, but the Sox have homefield advantage. 2 out of 3 is my goal, but as long as we're not swept it's a good series. (need to win the upcoming series in Detroit though of course)
  12. Liriano appears to either be injured, or merely finally human. 4 runs and 10 hits through 4 innings, including a 442 foot homer by Marcus Thames.
  13. I would assume by signing him to a major league deal they bought out some of his arbitration years (like Verlander) in which case it doesn't matter so much how fast he gets to the big leagues.
  14. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 05:17 PM) Yeah, last night's celebration was definitely a little too outrageous. There's a difference between just being psyched and going overboard. Remember last year when Gomes hit a walkoff homer against the Tigers? Pudge was pretty upset at his reaction, but he turns around and does something very similar. Pudge's reaction was over the top, but as I recall from this incident last year, Pudge was more upset because Gomes not only stared down his homer for about 10 minutes, but then flipped his helmet at him, which I think would upset just about anyone. Edit: As for Ledezma, he was actually a highly touted prospect who did fairly well in the majors in 2004, before bombing last year and then getting hurt, he'd bounced back strongly in AAA this year so I don't think today's performance was too shocking.
  15. QUOTE(mmmmmbeeer @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 02:38 AM) Disagree. They were lucky to take 2/3 our last meeting when the Sox were absolutely sucking ass. Now we're hitting and it appears the pitching is starting to come around. The Sox are a MUCH stronger team than DET if the Sox can start firing on all cylinders, which they've done the last week. This is an argument White Sox fans seem to make all the time, when is your team going to start "firing on all cylinders"? Besides, it's not like the Tigers are playing their best either, as has been noted many times our starting pitching has struggled the last couple of weeks, Granderson, Ordonez, Thames, and/or Shelton/Casey are not hitting nearly as well as they can, and yet our lead has stayed the same or grown over the entire time of their slumps. I'm sure if we start "playing our best ball" and "firing on all cylinders" we'll be unbeatable, right? Seriously, I've said many times I agree Chicago is a very good team and that the race in the division will most likely come down to the final weeks of the season, but if you guys are really soooo much better than us, wouldn't you be a bit closer than 8 games out so late in the season? Maybe it's time to accept that we're both (and heck, Minnesota too) great teams? Anyways, who needs Verlander, Wilfredo Ledezma went 5 and 2/3 allowing no runs, he did leave with two men on base though, so hopefully the relievers don't saddle him with a run or two.
  16. Yes, the Tigers get every break in every game we play, really we're a sub .500 team, and I suspect the Sox will pass us in the standings within the week.
  17. Rogers with 6 ip 3 er so far tonight against Cleveland, all the runs were in the first inning as well. Vasquez and Rogers both with good outings in the same day? Who would have thunk it...
  18. If it says Edmonds is the second best center fielder it's probably wrong. No clue what they were talking about though.
  19. Young's horrific defensive play led to some runs, and forced him to throw far more pitches than he should have. Hopefully we never see Dmitri at any position other than DH the rest of the year.
  20. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 08:09 PM) Detroit Pitching has an ERA of 4.90 since the All Star Break. If the White Sox didn't have an ERA of 5.70 since the break, you guys would be in real trouble. And if you hold that the rest of the season, the kitties will be in real trouble by September, because we will not be that bad in August. Maybe we won't be that bad either? I'm not anymore confident in Garcia and Vasquez than I am in Rogers and Verlanders arm.
  21. Yeah he had a break at the ASB. Also, in a rather suprising development, part of Miller's contract is that he will be called up to the majors in September.
  22. Verlander's next start will be skipped to rest him/keep his innings down. Wilfredo Ledezma will take his place for that turn in the rotation. Verlander's next start will now be against you guys... Detroit also signed first round pick Andrew Miller to a 4 year contract.
  23. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 11:27 AM) That's the sound of the innings bomb about to go off in Verlander's arm, turning him into Mark Prior. He'll be our closer next year, like Kerry Wood.
  24. McClung has nasty stuff, dissapointing we couldn't score against Meadows and Seo though.
  25. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 09:11 AM) Then who's the worst? How could we have improved in the least? I would say the Cubs and the Pirates are both worse, and the Devil Rays are about the same. The Royals have been playing pretty well since july or so, the last time Detroit played them we didn't sweep them either and they scored alot of runs against our pitching.
