The "they can't beat the good teams" crap is getting old. The White Sox weren't very good against the "good teams" last year, and you haven't even played them this year. (Since obviously we're not a good team, I can only assume that NYY, Boston, and yourselves are the only "good teams" in all of MLB). I just don't understand why noone can accept that maybe, just maybe, the AL Central has two good teams? Wow! That would be an amazing development! You won the world series last year, you'd think that might stop you from having to be so defensive about every other team.

QUOTE(Ndgt10 @ Jun 24, 2006 -> 08:40 PM) I don't need stats to tell me what I see when I watch their games. You're not watching the same games as me then. Inge and Granderson both have exceptional range, and Guillen, Polanco, and Shelton are all good. Pudge is of course an excellent defensive catcher as well.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 24, 2006 -> 08:39 PM) I don't get this post at all. Please explain. The point is, there are some Sox fans who seem to think the Tigers didn't deserve to tie the game, Izzy just blew it. So by that token, the Chisox didn't deserve to win today it was merely Chad Qualls sucking. I don't agree with either of course.

To the people blaming Izzy: Chad Qualls.

Who is the Best Young Pitcher in MLB?
loltrain replied to chitownsportsfan's topic in The Diamond Club
Bonderman has been absolutely dominating in 4 june starts, sub 2. era and 36 k's. Remember he's the same age as Verlander. Of course I still have to go with Liriano. Finally on the NL v AL debate, just look at interleague play, the AL is tearing it up, the Tigers are 8-2, the Red Sox are 9-1, and aren't you guys 10-0? (Or 9-1? something insane like that) Hell even the Royals are beating up on the NL lately. -
Side note: The NL really sucks. Even the Royals are hammering them in interleague.
-
What a ridiculous list, the DBacks just had a horrible losing streak and they're ahead of Chicago?!?!?!?! Although, whoever said Chicago has had a much rougher schedule than Detroit is wrong, at least up until this past 4 or 5 games yours had been much easier. Edit: So far Detroit is 21st in strength of schedule, which admittedly isn't very impressive, but Chicago is 28th.
-
Come on guys, you know full well that people who support a team from the south side of chicago mocking detroit is just as dumb as when detroit fans mock chicago.
-
My impression is that he always sucked, he just had a couple years where his crappy stats were covered up by alot of homers.

QUOTE(Jimbo @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 01:04 PM) Rogers play was number 7 on the ESPN(the s***ty ass network) top 10. Nowhere near Guch's play. It's definitely a very nice play, but it's not *that* much better. Please don't even think of using ES"Welovedivingcatchesmorethananyotherplayinmlbhistory"PN's rankings as a legitimate comparison.

OFFICIAL GO CUBBIES THIS WEEKEND THREAD!!!
loltrain replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in The Diamond Club
It would be pretty ironic if Barett was finally (really what makes this take so long?) suspended just in time for the Tigers series. Having a Sox player get punched in the face end up costing his own team....some MLB rules are just stupid. As a Tigers fan I certainly don't like Pierzynski but the guy punched him in the face he should have been serving his suspension weeks ago. -
Any time a team has a few young stars they will be called "young". The Tigers aren't really a young team (Todd Jones, Kenny Rogers, Pudge Rodriguez, Magglio etc) but people think of us that way because of Verlander, Zumaya, Bonderman and Granderson all playing major roles. THe Indians have the same thing with Vmart Sizemore Sabathia etc
-
Rodney still has incredible numbers on the hear, his baa is well below .200 He will be fine, Jones on the other hand is done.
-
Well, as a Tigers fan I dont' like the fact we're facing Freddy Garcia who's owned us his entire career. So I guess it balances out =)

Official Get Jermaine Dye to start the ALL Star game Thread
loltrain replied to rangercal's topic in Pale Hose Talk
There is no way Thome won't be an all star, I'm certain he'll be selected as a reserve. -
Dye doesn't get as much attention for two reasons: 1. He doesn't play in Boston or New York (believe me it has nothing to do with it being Chicago) 2. He hasn't put up monster stats like this for years on end, in fact most people thought his career was pretty much over a couple of years ago. Of course, even as a Tigers fan I copmletely agree that he should be starting in the all star game, last year he was the one guy on the Sox I hated to see due up in a big situation against us. (Thome has joined him this year of course )
-
Colon is out of the Tigers rotation, Zach Miner will be starting against the Red Sox. (Great triple A numbers but who knows how that will go in the majors) If he fails I would expect Wil Ledezma, Colby Lewis, or Humberto Sanchez (who have all been tearing up the minors) to get a shot. Zumaya will be staying in the pen. It sounds like noone really has a clue how long Maroth will be out as it depends on the number and size of the bone chips, could be anywheres from 2 weeks to the rest of the season.
-
It's definitely possible, but only if he plays on strong teams his entire career.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 29, 2006 -> 07:11 PM) I find it so damn pointless for Tiger's fans to sign up at an opposing team's message board and try to debate with the posters of that site as to whether or not thier team is "for real" or not. Last year I had absolutely no interest in what Twins fans thought of the Sox as they kicked the s*** out of every team in baseaball (except Oakland) on their way to the World Series. Opposing team's fans are not going to like your team, it's just the way it is. Soxtalk alone has had how many Tigers fans sign up just to b**** at the people who don't believe in their suddenly "awesome" team? Ignore the haters, if your team really is as good as their current record indicates, you'll have plenty of time in October to gloat as much as you want. You're absolutely right, most of us are probably still trying to recover from the barrage of Whitesox "fans" last year informing us of such things as: "DETOILET SUX LOLOLOLOL" "U GUYZ SUX LOLOLOL" "DETROIT IS FULL OF (not a nice word for black people) HAHAHAHAHAHA" "WE WIN AGAIN WHITE SOX FOR WORLD SERIES HAHAH U SUX LOLOLOL" and the like. I hope that we are not quite as annoying to you guys.

QUOTE(tigerfan @ May 27, 2006 -> 09:35 PM) Well whether he stays in pen for the long haul or not, he needs time to be able to get guys out with more then just his 100 mph heat. That may work for now, but eventually teams will adjust. It's lucky that his curve is devastating then I'd like to see him bust out the circle change more often though.
-
I've heard Mark Prior described as having 'the perfect delivery' and look at his injury problems... I think Zumaya is probably going to be in the pen for awhile, but he's so young that doesn't mean he'll never become a starter.
-
If there's anything I've learned from this forum it's that players playing above their career averages will fall back to them 100% of the time (at least if they're a tiger). In other words, I'd enjoy you're 3-4-5 hitting now before it's too late.
-
It's funny how the same guys that say Maroth is a poor pitcher who will fall back to earth, also think his loss will devastate the Tigers.
-
Javier Vasquez: Career 4.28 ERA including 4.91 and 4.42 the last two years. Most of that coming in the national league. Jose Contreras: Career ERA also 4.28 Jon Garland: Career 4.42 ERA Scott Podsednik: Career .279 hitter with .730 Career OPS. AJ Pierzynski: Career : .764 OPS Jermaine Dye: Career .272 hitter with a .803 OPS Jim Thome: And you say our lineup is likely to get injured? Pablo Ozuna/Brian Anderson/Juan Uribe/Chris Widger/Rob Mackowiack/Alex Cintron/Ross Gload: We're full of average players? Bullpen: Cotts: Career 4.27 ERA Politte: Career 4.06 ERA Jenks: Basically a rookie, who can count on that? Matt Thornton? Jeff Nelson? Please! And I'm quite certain most of these guys numbers were even crappier before you won the world series last year. Please, don't even bring up strength of schedule before you look at the crap you've been beating, at least we were able to handle the Royals. So finally, let's compare: C: Rodriguez v Pierzynski - Rodriguez 1B: Shelton v Konerko - Konerko DH: Young/Thames v Thome - Thome (by a mile) 2b: Polanco v Iguchi - Even 3B: Inge v Crede - Even SS: Guillen v Uribe - Guillen OF: Monroe v Podsednik - Podsednik (barely) Magglio v Dye - Even Granderson v Anderson - Granderson (by a mile) Rotation: Whitesox Bullpen: Tigers It looks pretty equal on paper to me. I'll give the Sox credit, they're the defending champions and they've beaten us 3 times this year, for that matter I still expect them to end up winning the central, simply because you guys have alot more experienced staring pitching than us but some of the arguments you use to discount the Tigers are just ridiculous.
