Robert went 113 feet to catch the ball in the 9th.

Totally agree. Just running to 1B has changed dramatically. Moncada had 4 doubles and 3 homers through June last year. He’s almost there after 4 games. Grandal looks so much better, and while defensively he still has issues, he’s one of the few catcher in MLB who has thrown out a base runner. Robert looks like the 2020 version with the glove, and the bat seems to be ready to pop. TA looks great. Andrus concerns me, but I do think hit 2000 is weighing on his ABs. The starters look good. Right now the shakiness is the bullpen. But it’s one series. That can turn around. I’m much happier now than I have been in a year about this team.

Anyone not happy with a split in Houston is just looking to complain.

One thing I do know Robert doesn’t make that play last season.

People take spring training performance way too seriously. Good and bad. The more positions your team has available depending on spring training performance, usually the worse your team is.

You do realize if he hit 1 homer this series he’d be on a pace for 40.

I don't understand people expecting Colas to perform like anything but a rookie.

I know it's been tough, but this team does play harder than last season. I think things will be better soon.

To be fair Johnny Bench in his prime wouldn't have thrown him out.

I'm hoping he's pressing because the next one is 2000. But the fact was except for last season, he's been Leury Garcia with the bat in recent years.

GT: 4/1 | Sox (1-1) @ Astros (1-1) | Giolito vs. Urquidy
Dick Allen replied to Eminor3rd's topic in 2023 Season in Review
I thought Gio looked pretty good. When they scored 2 in the first, nothing really hit hard. Sox are being burned by the guys you can expect them to be burned by, Diekman, Kelly, Ruiz and Santos. I think that’s a good thing. -

I don't know if this has been mentioned but TA has reached first a ton this series, and I don't think he and Abreu have even looked at each other. -
Bummer probably isn’t available back to back nights yet. They just had to roll with Diekman. A Hahn mistake that will keep haunting. Graveman not getting Maldonado was grave as well, and Bregman and Tucker with stellar defense also killed the Sox last night. Oh well. I would have taken 1-1 at this point since the schedule came out.

i don't know about that. I don't think many pitchers like to call their own game. Plus, guys with sharp breaking pitches, usually trust one guy to block them. -
When Vaughn dropped the pop up, I thought, here we go, but they hung on. A beautiful way to start the season.
-
Tony wasn't accurate with the minor leagues. The reason Hawk got the GM job was the crap they had to call up from the minor leagues when someone got hurt. Himes fixed that, but there is no way he would have stuck with LaRussa.
-
That is true. If Hawk didn't fire Tony, he doesnt get the A's job, which means he doesn't get the Cardinals job, and doesn't ever get to say he is a HOF baseball person, brother. He's just another Ricky Renteria or Tom Trebblehorn. If you think about it, Tony owes a hell of a lot to Hawk for firing him.
-
Second hiring easy . When they fired LaRussa, they were about to go into a rebuild and he would have been canned eventually anyway. After he got fired in 1986, the team played better for Fregosi.
-
I guarantee you the Sox would owe Leury Garcia $11 million less today than they do if Tony LaRussa was never hired. His return screwed this team up in so many ways. One of the worst hires of all time IMO.
-
If he played RF for the Sox last year, he missed the cutoff man. I think everyone did, and when they threw it to him, it was usually dropped or skipped by...one of the more awful seasons of all time, yet somehow they won 81 games. Just shows you how good they could and should be. Hopefully Pedro can clean up a lot of things.
