What I don't understand is if they love this rule so much, how come they don't use it in the playoffs?
-
The last thing JR was going to do is give the new manager more to play with than he did LaRussa. I'm sure JR wants to win, but I don't think he would be too sad if they were mediocre again, and he can, at least in his own mind, take any of the blame for the team getting mired in mediocrity again, away from Tony.

Spring Training 2023 Predict the Fluff Pieces
Dick Allen replied to Texsox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I've never looked much aar Fangraphs write ups, but I give them praise in rge ZiPS projections. Even if I find their World Series chances for the Sox ludic, I do like their write up there, and previously basically calling the Whit Sox front office lazy. -
When do Sox put Anderson on the trading block?
Dick Allen replied to oldsox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If Montgomery continues to look llike the reincarnation of Cory Seager, and the Sox struggle, TA is definitely trade bait. But if they are winning, I doubt they trade him. -
The White Sox over/under for 2023 wins is 83.5

So he’s bragging he spent the money and the team is 81-81. How low can the bar go? -

Mired in Mediocrity, the Rick Hahn Story should be coming to bookstores soon. It will be 400 pages about nothing. -
The White Sox over/under for 2023 wins is 83.5

While Rick Hahn had his second consecutive offseason so bad it’s hard to describe, and I don’t think the White Sox are a World Series contender by any stretch, this percentage is BS. I don’t know how you can possibly have the over under for wins they are sporting, and a 333 to 1 shot of a WS, especially in the division in which they play. -
The other thing is the Bulls, who print money, are so paranoid about the tax line, they will never be good enough to win regularly.
-
Lonzo Ball is almost certainly out for the season. Is there really much hope for him next year? Seems to me, theres a decent chance he'll never be the same.
-
Yeah, I really don't understand the Bulls seemingly hoping for a play in finish. But although 3 of them are nice, they have to be spaced apart, and will probably be middle of the pack at best, and all they get back is crap for the forseeable future. If the Bulls did this, it is a total money dump.
-
No, they are very smart. Look at what is owed Lavine. Their bosses will love them.

They are actually airing a Bulls deadline show with the pre game guys at 5:30 today on NBCSC. What are they going to talk about? It's going to be worse than the crap they normally show at that time.

2023 MLB offseason signings and rumors thread
Dick Allen replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
To expect anything from him this year would not be wise. Maybe he comes back in June or July or August, but usually those guys are pretty diminished to start. Hope for him to be fully bounced back in 2024. -

Mets just DFAd a guy with a DV allegation. -
The NY teams don't even play in the same state their names suggest.

Season ticketholders get a break. $18 for most games, $10 on Sunday.

Virginia is 100. She won't be selling and will never see the Bears play in AH.

If we don't win, it's not our fault.

Because it makes no sense and JR isn't stupid. If he ever found out that it was true, someone would lose their job for life status. I know the White Sox are not run perfectly. But it's not THAT ridiculous. It would be exposed. especially if it cost JR money. Think about it, the guy telling the story supposedly knew about it. So a lot of people did. Why didn't they alert JR? The answer is because it's a BS story.

Prediction of Win Totals not looking good.

85 wins leaves you right at the division or at least final playoff spot late into September. -

Chances are any trade they might have made wouldn’t have worked out anyway. The problem with the White Sox front office is they blame anything and everything other than themselves for their failures. It may be fluke injuries that happen to every team. It may be fans who don’t pay to watch a shitty product. To Rick, Kenny, and Jerry, it’s always on someone or something else other than them, so they will continue to do things wrong. Maybe every 40 or so years, the stars align and everything goes their way, and they can say We told you so. But that’s what we are stuck with. Its why LaRussa was so beloved by JR. He was never wrong. After The second guy he put on with a 1-2 count last year, the Sox got out of the inning. Tony pointed out that proved he was right. That’s like being out totally chewed and not wanting to spend the money on an Uber, so you drive home. You make it without killing anyone or getting pulled over so of course you made the right decision. It’s nuts. Thinking these guys were going to change their stripes was nuts. JR prints money with the Bulls. He had , at least at the time, the worst 5 year record in NBA history after Jordan left. Yet they continued to sell our. His gift to the fans was to never go into luxury tax territory which will eliminate any chance of the Bulls ever going on a run where they could win for multiple years. If he’s that way when he’s printing money, think how it is for the White Sox. -
It’s not true.

2023 MLB offseason signings and rumors thread

There are lots of ways to improve the roster. One would have been actually spending the international bonus pool money and maybe hitting on a lesser known. When you’re in a rebuild, it may be throwing money away but less than giving Manny Machado’s friends 8 figures combined. And he was letting everyone know how trades were going to happen and he’s being hearing interesting ideas, blah, blah, blah…who knew Franklin German would be his only trade. The whole thing was a bill of goods. Teams with sustained winning always get more expensive and usually quite quickly. Winning means playing well. Playing well means getting paid. If they aren’t willing to cover their recent mistakes with a little more payout, they were never serious about sustained winning and multiple LOL championships. As to KW, I think he has only a year or two left . His wife retired from NBC 5 last year, and he has said he’s on his last contract. So hopefully his leaving will spur some real change because the verdict is in, they don’t have the right people building the team under JRs restrictions. I do think Hahn could possibly build a sustained contender if Steve Cohen was his owner. A few others are far more successful under these conditions. It might not be win a WS, but have fun team that wins most of the time with multiple playoff appearances will do. It’s not like White Sox fans are conditioned for World Series win or bust. -

JR loved it. He saved a ton of money.
