Sox with "plenty of money" left in Jan 15 international pool
Dick Allen replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I hope they have a plan for the rest of the pool other than selling it to get salary relief, but at least they signed 19 guys. Hopefully one or two will turn out very useful. -

Mike Clevinger under investigation for domestic violence
Dick Allen replied to RibbieRubarb's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Usually the first thing is these allegations are false, a total denial. This wasn't anything close to a denial. “We need to fairly and thoroughly protect our client and at the same time be respectful of the White Sox and MLB,” said Clevinger's agent, Seth Levinson in a statement provided to The Athletic And I guess by being respectful to the White Sox, that doesn't include giving them a heads up on the investigation until the contract is signed, and the accuser is going public. -

i think he's of the age and at the time in his career where travelling to call all these games is still fun. Most people who have had to travel for work initially thought it was pretty cool, but eventually thought it was a pain in the ass. I think in a few years Jason either goes the Joe Buck way where he does one game a week for a couple of sports, or eventually bags the football and basketball and does baseball full time with his winters off. -
White Sox share plans for new 500-level bars
Dick Allen replied to Bad Hombre's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I just don't know where they make their money back here. There are 8 seats in an undesirable location for most. They took out 8 rows of seats for this. They sell those for Cubs games and opening day. Do they really think they will make that up in beer sales there? There are other places to buy beer. I'm pretty sure the vast majority of games up until now, if you wanted to get a beer from a vendor or your nearest stand, and wanted to mosey down to section 516 to watch the game, there probably were seats open in the first couple of rows. -

The Sox initially had bigger plans for the bars when it applied for a building permit in September, but the bars were simplified afterward to meet the budget. Just like the roster. A recurring issue. -
Mike Clevinger under investigation for domestic violence
Dick Allen replied to RibbieRubarb's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I would think if it was totally false, an investigation, which has been going on since the summer, would have probably been closed by now. There's even more layers to this. It seems the more you hear, the bigger asshole this guy is. My buddy once told me the one nice thing about Albert Belle was he made no effort to try to come off as anything other than he was, a total asshole. It's the guys who are so phony that are really bothersome. -

The only major league team that would have Rick Hahn as their GM is the White Sox. -

The Texas basketball coarch was recently fired for abuse. His girlfriend or fiance did recant, said it was all her fault. She provoked the poor guy, but it was too little late. Probably was going to be paid off for dropping the charges. But it didn't work. -
Most of the Royals couldn't hit. I like Pedro. I think he was a good hire. But if they think he and his coaching staff alone are going to make these guys so much better, Pedro is going to have an impossible job. I guess if you don't want to spend and no team will give you a bargain in a trade, its all thats left.

Yet it appeared the Padres had very little interest in a return. -

While your thought is logical, I would imagine some of that depth would be headed the other way if there was a trade. -

I know supposedly the investigation can't be revealed, but I find it hard to believe they couldn't find out there was an ongoing investigation into this guy even if they didn't tell them what it was about. -

I get all that but the problem is, of all the free agent pitchers, he picked this guy. There were red flags with him about other things. Hahns instincts are horrendous. -

He's actually hit with more power at home than on the road for his career. -

Weren't his numbers poor at 2B though last season? I read one of the sites had him below average. I won't buy that, he's obviously got a nice glove, but still a .600 OPS at best is going to require a lot of glove. If he was a bench guy, fine, but he is being driven out of the KC line up, and they are a really bad team. -

Hes a utility guy. He's basically Yolmer Sanchez, althouh he can probably steal a lttile more, even though he isn't all that fast, and hit fewer homers. -

What should have happened is Clevinger or his agent could have alerted the Sox at some point. -
2023 MLB offseason signings and rumors thread

The other good news is Hahns best decisions are the ones where he has no choice. Cueto because Lynn was injured, and Andrus gets waived right when TA goes down. Any fantasy league person could have done that. -

Apparently they don’t have to disclose it, but unless they too knew nothing about it, which seems hard to believe, it seems slimy Clevinger and/or his agents didn’t give the White Sox some sort of heads up. -

He doesn’t hit. I get the plus glove is really nice to have and if TA can cut down on the lack of concentration errors, the Sox could actually have a fairly elite infield defense, but he has to hit a little bit. -

Unless they determine the accuser made everything up, he’s going to be suspended, and probably for a long time. He’s an idiot, and if he pitches for the White Sox, I hope they lose every game he starts and no one shows up at his home starts. Marcel Osuna played for the Braves after beating his wife in front of the cops. -

I think Soxfest was usually held the last weekend in January. At least they knew what they were doing not holding it this year.
