Attendance does matter. Maybe not to the extent it did in the 70s and 80s. They want people in the park. People who complain about having to spend $5 more to sit downstairs than upstairs have no problem sucking back 6 $14 beers, or spending $20 on a nacho helmet. Not only that, it shapes what happens later. A kid who went to Sox games with their parents and friends is probably far more likely to take their kids to Sox games when they are older. The Sox drew 2 million. This should be a team that flirts with 3 million. That would mean at least another $50 million per year. Plus, if you aren’t popular, your TV ads generate less money. The Sox own part of their station. While whatever they get per game with their broadcasting contract might not matter, the station makes a lot more money when the teams are popular to watch because they make a lot more on ads. The Hawks, Bulls, and Sox are now all in the same boat. You really have to be a diehard to even know what time the game is on.

That’s exactly the problem. If the Sox brought back Jose, they would be dumping other contracts just so we can watch his twilight years. I love Jose, but even I thought his last extension was a bit much. Turns out, I was wrong. But now you would really be playing with fire. The one thing I do wonder is how his lack of clubhouse presence will affect the team. There are things to question, but since the Sox refuse to act like a major market team, there really was no choice.

The Astros let Correa go and won the WS. I love Jose, but he is at least 36, maybe a couple of years older. He is staring to have trouble keeping up with gas. It most likely isn’t going to get better. Vaughn is young and should get better. Many scouts think he will be a monster. It’s time to put him where he should be. I think the fault is, the Sox should take the money the saved letting Jose walk and fill another hole. But JR needs as big of profit as possible. To me it’s unfathomable to be cutting payroll I’m the middle of a contention window. It should be going up. They can talk all they want about the front office wanting to win and being ultra competitive, but that has been proven false.

I’m pretty sure KW and RH would be ex executives if they had performed like they have performed for 29 of the 30 MLB organizations. Granted JR plays a role in their failure, they still have problems putting together teams that compete with teams with the same payroll or lower.

There is no way they can trade him unless they have a replacement to play SS. They will get skewered by the fans and media if they have to develop a SS or sign someone washed up and waste another year of the window.

I don’t think shift rules will help this guy. There are no rules for outfielders shifting. They just play one of them in the short RF most teams played a 2B when there were no restrictions. If the guy hits a flyball, chances are it’s gone or a can of corn so the other 2 OF can easily cover the rest of the OF for a hitter of his ilk.

That's true, but if somehow Giolito returned to form, Cease remains what he is, and Kopech and Lynn are healthy, a playoff opponent might have a better team, but might have a hard time winning The problem is IMO, that is what the White Sox have always banked on instead of trying to build the beat roster possible. Something that I thought they said they were going to change.

Who would play SS for the White Sox? If Montgomery was in a position where you could say he is ready, then I could buy it, but I would bet anything TA isn't available unless totally blown away .

BR says $10.333 million. I think you could get Gallo for that or less. Benetendi slightly more but not enough where anyone in their right mind trying to win would say can’t do. Eloy is the only position player in the core they could trade, get something worthwhile back, and reasonably replace. I personally would hate to see him go.

The one guy I see possibly going from that list is Eloy. And it could blow up in their faces. If he plays 145 games, he’s a 40 homer guy. Something they desperately need. But , if it takes him 2 or 3 seasons to play 145 games, not good. I could see them trading Eloy and using the savings, signing a guy like Gallo or Benetendi who has no power, but does something else the Sox need, work a count.

The White Sox have to stop acting like they are the Pirates or Marlins.

Hahn doing nothing at the trade deadline, and perhaps the teams most popular player leaving you think would give this organization big incentive to make some news. And they will wonder about fan apathy.

The Padres gave It a shot for Judge. Machado has his opt out after next season which , unless he gets hurt, he will opt out. He will easily be able to beat the 5 and $150 million that will be left on the deal. Sox were worried about year 8. Clowns.

That makes a lot of sense. A few guys available that throw hard, k a lot of guys. See what Katz can do with their command in spring training. If he can’t do anything it was still worth the gamble. Makes no sense to pass.
