8/25 Tigers vs Sox, The Quest for #100
Dick Allen replied to Capn12's topic in 2024 Season in Review
According to WestEddy, Getz goal this year was to fix the pitching. Mission accomplished. 29th lowest ERA in baseball. -
The only teams that would keep him are the loser franchises, of which, the Sox have become.

Liam Hendriks should be retuning to the Red Sox about the time the White Sox hit Beantown. So that should be cool to see. -
I know that. But any team whose goal is excellence wouldn’t have a difficult decision.

If they lose this one, it will be 4-33 their last 37. Except for WestEddy and Schriffen, everyone would agree that is unacceptably bad, -

He can’t hit, but at least he’s a bad fielder. -

Command seems to be a recurring issue with many White Sox pitchers. -
I’m fine. I’m not living in fantasyland thinking everyone in the Sox front office should be replaced except for Getz. You’re the one we should be concerned about.
-
His teams were never 31-99.
-
He sucks at his job. What you are saying is JR , who never speaks on the record, held a press conference and said he hired Getz because he knew the organization, knew where the bodies were buried, and wouldn’t waste a year figuring out what needs.fixing. Now you are saying JR told him to hold off a year on several moves. That’s as ridiculous as your quote about no one panning Getz deadline. He was panned plenty. If you are reading Keith Law, you have access to Jim Bowden. Read his analysiis. im sure Chris is a nice person, but he’s a terrible GM. He’s employed by the only ream in the league that would give him that position.
-
He was fired because JR didn’t like him and probably didn’t consider his personnel advice. The So.x won 94 games with the lowest payroll in baseball in 1990. Then they let him go.
-
Yeah everything that has worked out thus far proves he’s a genius. Everything where’s he come up short, he was told to hold off. He’s responsible for the organization as the GM. They are 68 games under .500 The Angels have the 144th worst record in the AL. They are 22. games worse than the best record. The Sox are 23 games worse than the Angels. How’s your boy Nastrini doing? Or the lockdown bullpen you told us Getz has assembled?
-
He was the assistant GM. Hasn't he been evaluating the organization for years? He sucks more as an executive than he did as a player.
-
Which was confirmed when he tried to extort over$1 billion from the state recently.
-
31-99 confirms he is in over his head.
-
Is it ironic that it’s taken him a year to realize he needs to fire several people and needs to hire from the outside? Weren’t we sold that not waiting a year was one of the reasons, if not the reason JR actually didn’t look for the beat person available?
-
Obviously I don’t blame him for taking the job that was offered to him, but if he really thought or thinks for the organization to get better, they needed to exclusively hire from the outside, wouldn’t that go for his position, perhaps the most important, as well.?
-
As you once told me when I was calling for Hahn’s head, what difference does it make, they will just hire Getz. And you were right about that more ways than one. I don’t think any of this makes much of a difference, at least with building a good team. A correct hire at manager and whatever other positions they decide to change may keep them from setting more records for futility, but will never make them what we want them to be. For that to happen, JR would need to realize he isn’t a baseball genius, and needs something other than a yes man to make his team decent.
-
The point is the guy making the outside hire should have been an outside hire. We are still in the land of JR.
-
We can’t control anything , yet as fans I believe we have a lot to b**** about. The White Sox should actually be glad there is moaning and groaning. It shows some. A couple more years of this crap, and maybe that won’t be the case anymore.

How can Getz and Barfield both be so bad at finding infielders
Dick Allen replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It doesn’t appear anyone has to ability to either recognize or develop offensive talent. Since they are not going to be spending, that gives really no hope for the future. You still have to score to win. I go back to if Crochet and Fedde actually pitched closer to where they were projected, as historically bad as this team has been, they would be even worse. I don’t see them losing less than 90 games a year for the foreseeable future. They still have to score runs. Even an idiot like me who has never been paid a dime by an MLB team knew from the get go offense was a problem. How do they not see it? -
I’d like to think that if JR knew the Sox would be 31-99 after 130 games this year with Gerz as the GM, he might have conducted a real search for a new GM last year. The sad thing is, I’m only about 50/50 with it. Getzs recent comments seem to negate the entire reason JR blew off trying last year.
-
You add up his and Vargas batting averages with the White Sox, it doesn’t add up to .200. I could be wrong, but the evidence so far suggests, Getz and his lackeys have no idea when it comes to finding offense. For the love of God, quit wasting time and fire him.
-
If the Sox lose, they will clinch last place in the AL Central. Probably in record time.
