QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 01:27 PM) US Cellular Field is the 3rd rated hitters park. The Sox have the runner up for the MVP last year, a 12 million dollar 1B who has been an all star multiple times, and a future Hall of Fame DH. The 3b hit 30 homers last year. And yet, the Sox are 30th in EVERY MAJOR OFFENSIVE STAT! They have been slumping for almost a year. Think about that for a while. All of the Sox prospects who were expected to be good hitters have struggled. Even Crede and Rowand took a long time to get going. The fact that Walker was not replaced as an attempt to fix this team or at least to appease ME a fan is the ONE thing I can not forgive about this season. Last place doesn't anger me as much as last place while being to stubborn / loyal to at least try the obvious solution to fix the problem. Losing Mark if it happens, I can understand. The bullpen fiasco, I can understand. Not trying a new hitting coach is inexcusable. For that, I am disgusted. I agree with KW, I'm sick of watching this. I wish Walker well, but he should have at the very least been reassigned within the organization. If you are using results as the ultimate, there are a lot of guys who should at the very least be reassigned. The bullpen has been brutal for 2 years now. Fire Cooper. The in game managing has been questionable at best. Even the players say there is no intensity or passion. Fire Ozzie. The players that were acquired are not performing as they should and don't appear as talented as advertised. Fire KW. No matter who the hitting coach was this year, this team would have struggled. Hitting coaches don't make 50 point differences in everyone's batting average. If they did, they would all get paid more than ARod and be underpaid. Shaffer is the White Sox scapegoat. Ironic how veterans acquired from other teams failing, costs the minor league guy his job. There's plenty of blame to go around, and maybe Walker does have a little coming his way, but he's close to the back of the line.

I think its being really naive to think there's the slightest possibility that Tank's blood test will be negative. The Bears have more info than any of us, and they stood behind him when a SWAT team surrounded his house. They aren't going to release him for going 40 mph in a 25 mph zone.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 10:32 AM) You realize that Crede up until last year was a poor poor hitter. In 2002 he put up great numbers in a role similar to what Fields has this year. If Fields equals Crede's 2002 output, there will be talk on where to put his statue. Crede hit .285 with 12 homers in about 200 at bats in 2002. 2003 he hit .261 with 19 homers. 2004 was poor, 2005 was poor until September, and 2006 was excellent until September. Its not like Fields is hitting .350. Or .250 now. His OBP is lower than Uribe's, and he's already fanned more than Crede this season. He has a long way to go.

Why is it when the other team does it, its a duckfart, but if it were Erstad, he tries to do it? -

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 06:44 PM) Didn't seem to hurt the Tigers too much last season... They hit a little higher than .230 as a team, and got on base a little more, and ran a little better and had a decent bullpen and............................................... -

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 06:41 PM) Terrero K's. Howell might K 20 tonight. If Terrero and Fields play everyday the rest of the year, and Paulie and Thome do their thing, the Sox should at least come close to the franchise record for ks in a season. -

QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 06:37 PM) sox no runs on two hits. Rays one run on no hits. What new? Also Tampa telecast had a feed saying Toby Hall has not thrown out a runner all season. He doesn't even try throwing anymore. -

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 06:35 PM) LMAO, all 3 put outs credited to the worst major leaguer. And as usual, he gets a terrible jump, and catches it on the run while losing his hat. To be fair, although he is awful, he is an infielder. You can't expect stellar play from him in the OF. -

Danks has 2 choice, either start throwing strikes, or start looking for an apartment in Charlotte. -

QUOTE(diegotony06 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 06:24 PM) I agree 100%. What the hell did this kid ever do to be starting everyday?? He is terrible, and there is no way he should be playing. Especially batting 2nd. Not like it really matters though. He hit a solid .240 with no power in Charlotte this season. Don't disrespect. He truly is one of the worst players in the major leagues, and not batting 8th or 9th when he has to play is troubling. -
Boras was looking to get into football about 5 or 6 years ago, but I don't think he ever did. Salary caps and lack of quarantees would probably drive him crazy.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 04:16 PM) This is just a guess but sicne they had to take blood I'm guessing he refused to blow. That in itself make himself look guilty of something and probably a big factor in why they said adios. You know me and normally I would be up to no good being out at 3am also.. but these days.. when the mood strikes for a Klondike bar, one must go get a Klondike bar. I think I read somewhere where it is the officer's decision as to what test be given. Maybe he thought Tank had been hitting the ganja.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 05:44 PM) A lot of talk that the Orioles took Weiters partly to open up/establish a relationship with Boras in preparation for the mega contract they will offer Tex. Weiters is a stud too, well worthy of where he was drafted (best catching prospect since Mauer). I think the Sox were more upset with the Bobby Seay situation. Boras basically maneuvered around the system and the end result was Seay getting a fat deal to spurn the Sox and sign with the Devil Rays. Edit: At least I think it was Boras that rep'd Seay at the time. Yeah, I think Seay was the straw that broke the camel's back. In retrospect, Boras did the Sox a favor with that one though.

My prediction is except for Buerhle, the majority of Soxtalk will be shocked by the lack of talent either coming back to the Sox or reportedly turned down by the Sox for Dye and any other player.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 03:05 PM) Now you are saying 2 different things. Unrealistic expectations of players or situations were addressed. No one said Erstad cured all ills. They were asking him to play solid defense and be better offensively than Anderson. Pods has been hurt every season with the White Sox but before that he was very healthy. Competently? Describe good. Good = playoffs? If good = playoffs then most GMs would be fired under the same standards you put on KW. 4 teams make the playoffs every year. The Yanks are usually always one of them - that leaves 3 others. That is a pretty high standard. The only AL Central Division team to win the World Series since 1991. I agree, but before the season you didn't know what you had in Fields. Crede also had this back issue last season and had his best season ever. If you actually thought you were going to contend this year then sticking with Crede was the right thing to do. His OBP is .311, not too different from Anderson's last season. In fact, as great as some think he's been, the White Sox part-time leadoff hitter has an OBP only .006 higher than Sammy Sosa, and only .009 higher than Josh Paul. I like the way he plays, but its rather obvious he was going to get hurt, and leading off? Please. Pods too. Pods was horrible last season and the second half of 2005. Thome has had physical problems 3 or 4 straight seasons. Crede's back issues aren't new. When these guys went down, except for Crede, it appears KW was totally unprepared. Brian Anderson DHing? Andy Gonzalez leading off or batting second? The farm system sucks, and KW needs to be a man and take most of the blame. If Shaffer or whoever weren't doing their jobs, something should have been done about it a long time ago. KW has been praising the crap prospects all this time. In fact, he got his job partially based on the Sox erroneously being given the tag of the best farm system when he was in charge. You think making the playoffs 1 time in 7 years in a 5 team division when for good part of the 7 years KC and Det were beyond horrible and Cleveland had to rebuild totally, and when for more than half the time the White Sox had the highest payroll in the division is acceptable? What's so funny about Shaffer losing his job is he would not have been let go had guys like Konerko, Dye, Pods, and any of the bullpen did their jobs. KW was looking for scapegoats. -
Dye is hitting .220. Has an injury, is making $7 million this year, and will only be around a couple of months. He won't get you much. Think Jon Adkins.

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 02:25 PM) God damn I hope he can change his ways. He's nothing like Pac-man, henry, etc.. Tank is actually a good guy, just makes some stupid decisions. I know a lot of great guys that have loaded assault weapons hanging around their house for their little kids to play with. Tank is an ass. The Bears knew it when they drafted him and they had it beat into their heads while they employed him.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 02:21 PM) The addressed them. They just didn't get the results they were hoping for. CF Erstad replaced Brian Anderson. LF - Pods was supposed to be healthy and be a quality leadoff man. The entire bullpen was revamped. There were changes. Issues were addressed. Horrible results. You can argue the result part, but you can't really say that they didn't address it and you can't say KW sat on his hands all winter. He made a lot of moves. I guess you can say they didn't go after a replacement for Pods, but that's it. If they expected Erstad to remain healthy an entire season, the entire braintrust needs to be removed. Darin Erstad for $750k is the move that will cure all the ills? Pods gets hurt every season. Even the idiots like me knew he wouldn't last. If issues were addressed, they weren't addressed competently which is KW's job. Sorry, he failed again. That's 1 good year out of 7 for him. I don't consider 2006 a good year just because of 90 wins. They were only 8 games over .500 against the AL, and tanked the second half. I don't celebrate 3rd place finishes. -
At last, sanity wins at Halas Hall. I congratulate the Bears, and hope Tank can put his life together for his children's sake. I hope no other NFL team enables him to continue his irresponsible ways.

QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 10:22 AM) He's never going to be Crede defensively but that's ok. He'll be adequate. The guy is going to hit and drive in a lot of runs. Even more importantly, he will have a high OBP. This guy will walk more in his first full season than Crede did in 2 seasons. I'm fine to keep him at third and leave him alone. How about finding 3 outfielders that can hit ? That shouldn't be so hard especially since we have 4 quality veteran starting pitchers to dangle . He's a strikeout machine that will have to make a lot of adjustments to be successful regularly in the major leagues. I don't know how anyone can come to the conclusion that he will have a high OBP at this point. I think people are forgetting Crede hit 30 homers and was hitting over .300 until his back gave way last season. If he's healthy, he's damn good. Better than Fields. If he's hurt, Fields is better, but its not like he's lighting it up right now.
